Central America Caribbean » Bahamas » Long Island January 22nd 2015

Geo: 23.6576, -75.3358Seeing as we have this great weather window, we need to keep moving, and won't be spending more than one night anchored off of the Cape Santa Maria Resort, Calabash Bay, Long Island. But it sure is good to be back here. This resort is absolutely breathtaking. This is perfection in paradise which is attainable to all. The airport isn't far away, and as the saying goes...if you got the money, honey....We are all so happy that we escaped the busy anchorages of GGT. Four boats in this harbour is much more our style. We are sitting inside the screened in bar/restaurant of the resort. Christa and I are "interneting" like mad, uploading pictures, sending out emails, while Tony and Craig are sitting at the bar researching and discussing weather. The four of us ... read more

Geo: 23.5191, -75.7559 January 14th, 2015 - We're in the Bahamian Cruising Mecca!Hello all,Hope this email finds you well. How are things with each of you?We are now in Georgetown, Great Exuma, AKA the Bahamian Cruising Mecca. The day we arrived, about 50 other boats also came in. Everyone was keen to get here before the winds picked up. At last count a few days ago, there are presently 199 boats here and more arrive every day. Since we've been here, the weather has been a bit crazy. Winds have been up, squalls have blown through, and in between, we've had some lovely sunny days playing in the water and on the beach. This really is an "adult playground". Because it is high season, there is a very active Cruiser's Net every morning on the VHF ... read more

Geo: 23.9795, -76.3296Oven Rock - Our little hiking trip!We stopped at Oven Rock for a night after leaving Black Point. It was a strategic move to put us closer to Farmer's Cut. That way the following day we would exit the cut and shoot straight down to GGT.We had told Craig and Christa what fun we had last time that we hiked to the cave and explained that Tony and Dave (from Bliss II) had snorkelled the cave. Craig and Tony got their gear packed up and we all went ashore. We bumped into another couple on shore who had just visited the cave. They told us about it. We said that Yes! We know about the cave, we were about to snorkel there. They had no idea you could snorkel there, we told them how ... read more

Geo: 24.0976, -76.4045Made it to Blackpoint for Christmas. Here's the blast email I sent out explaining the past few islands in the Exumas. Also, the whole story of how OUR DINGHY WENT WALKABOUT!!! Dec. 24th, 2014 – Merry Christmas from the crew of Inspiration!Hello from Black Point Settlement, Exuma. As promised, we arrived in time to say Merry Christmas to you all! :)I last wrote a quick note from New Providence telling you about our three days of hard sailing from Bimini. The sailing was spectacular, but it was also intense. So, we enjoyed a second much needed day of relaxation at West Bay, New Providence. Both Christa and I were exhausted, and therefore quite cranky and emotional. A day to just relax and unwind was definitely needed. So we played for a good part of ... read more

Geo: 24.5343, -76.7991Last year we missed Shroud Cay and I was really excited to take a dinghy ride through the mangroves to the beach on the other side. The trip did not disappoint. It was calm, with perfectly clear water and the most beautiful beach on the other side. The sand was like icing sugar. Christa, Steve, and I couldn't resist going for a swim in such a perfect setting. Our only mistake was that it was so late in the day and we were losing daylight to make it back to our boats. We pinched every last moment in that we could, and then started the slow return back to our boats. "Desperation" towed "T/T Simunye" because our engine is wonderfully quiet and it only seemed right in such an already tranquil setting. (Desperation is ... read more

Geo: 24.716, -76.8312First stop in the Exumas....Highborne Cay, Exuma. Ahhhh, it's nice to be back in the Exumas! We stayed at Highborne Cay for two nights, knowing that we now had the time to relax and enjoy the islands as we made our way towards Staniel Cay for the 23rd. While anchored at Highborne, we took a dinghy ride to Allan's Cay to see the Iguanas, did some snorkeling and enjoyed a visit to the Highborne Cay Marina. We also bumped into the crew of Mighty Fine again. We had last seen them in Stuart, FL, and therefore sundowners were in order on their "Lido deck"! In a discussion with the crew of Simunye, we agreed that it would be a good idea for Craig and Christa to start to sail on their own while Steve ... read more

Geo: 25.0269, -77.546If it looks all the same as last year....that's because it is! This time around, we are travelling with another boat, which makes it different for us though. And we're almost two months earlier than last year, so it was still a bit cool. NOT COMPLAINING THOUGH!!!! ;)After our three days of hard sailing from Bimini we were tired. The sailing was spectacular, but it was also intense. So, we stayed at New Providence for two nights. We enjoyed that second much needed day of relaxation. Both Christa and I were exhausted, and therefore quite cranky and emotional. Some would say our "brains were sweating, and that was the reason for the tears in our eyes"...Ha. Inside joke. A day to just relax and unwind was definitely needed. So we played for a good ... read more

Geo: 25.7167, -79.3Ah, yes. I do love Ft. Lauderdale, but, as the saying goes, "It's Better in the Bahamas"!We left Ft. Lauderdale at sundown. Exiting Port Everglades at 6pm on a Sunday nights means that ALL the cruise ships had already left. In fact we heard them leaving all afternoon on Sunday. The traditional three whistle blow to indicate to all that they are leaving port. The one that had us laughing the first time we heard it was the whistle blow for the Princess Cruise Line ships. They do a three whistle blow, but then also do a "ship's whistle" version of the theme song for the 80's show: The Love Boat. It was so neat to hear this the first three times...but there must have been several Princess Cruise Liners leaving port one after ... read more
