The first time I was in Barcelona I spent a grand total of an hour, seeing little more than the Sagrada Familia (which was impressive btw). This time thankfully, I got a night and the better part of an afternoon. Doesn't sound long but I had the priceless advantage of a local as a guide and chauffeur! :) We weren't flying in early to start with but the flight delay by over an hour meant that we were too late to catch the special Christmas lighting at the Sagrada Familia and at many places. The rain was also keeping people behind [View Full Entry]

Budapest in a Blink

 Europe » Hungary » Budapest
Budapest was both my longest and shortest weekend trip in one. Shortest because it was the least time I'd ever spent exploring a place (one night thanks to the late arrival of my travel bud + one morning) and longest by way of travel for such a nearby weekend destination - absurd flight delays & a Luton airport situation (21 planes landing at the same time explains a 1.5hr q at passport controls) meant that I finally arrived home at 3am after 12hours of commuting. From Budapest to London. How mad is that?! Overall, it was one big waiting game for [View Full Entry]

We did visit more than just Boracay whilst in Philippines, but it was only a day or so in Manila catching up with some friends over dinner (crispy pata, yum!!!) and drinks. Lost my fav baggy trousers during the trip but gained a few scars of sandfly bites for keepsakes in turn... Boracay is only 7km long and at the widest point, I don't think it was more than 1km broad. Although White Beach is the best known one with good reason, the island also features several other smaller beaches, with Puka beach coming in as a fav with me. [View Full Entry]

Dense is the concrete jungle of NYC indeed!
My words won’t justify it - you’ll have to feel experience it for yourself. Anyhow, the trip began with an upgrade on Virgin Atlantic - we didn't mind the extra legroom, champagne and non-stop food at all! 8 hours later, T & I arrived at JFK all ready to fling our suitcases onto the back of a yellow one. It must have been all that drink though for we changed our minds and hopped onto a bus instead. We were only going to Forest Hills in Queens, which would have been about 20mins cab ride away, but with the bus, we [View Full Entry]

Surf Operators on Kuta Beach
This marks the end of a week long exploration of Bali, one of, if not the most, famous islands in Indonesia. Unlike the rest of Indonesia, Balinese are Hindus rather than Muslims, thus managing to retain a distinctive culture of its own. That is but only the beginning of its charm though. With beaches after beaches surrounded by gorgeous clear waters and great surf breaks, Bali is a mecca for the sun-worshippers. Despite living just 2 hours away by flight, I'm ashamed to say this is only my first time here. Tue 5th Sept 2006 - KUTA Arrived late in the [View Full Entry]

Bangkok Shopping Madness

 Asia » Thailand » Central » Bangkok
I was a day late in meeting PP in Bangkok because I'd had a run-in with the airline at check-in. Anyhow, this was a weekend trip intended to indulge the female self-pampering tendencies and boy, was it fun. After arriving, I took a rest to recover from my 12 hr long flight and it's off to town to hit the stores! We squeezed our way into the metros (we kept running out of small change for the tickets) and navigated through the crowds at all the major shopping malls and even braved Chatuchak. We nosed our way to the irresistible smells [View Full Entry]

Stepping back in time to China

 Asia » China » Fujian
Well, I'm really writing this in late 2006 even though my trip was made something like 8 years ago, but I'll do my best to recall. Also, there was no digicam for me then, so there won't be any photos to share on this. What I will be doing however, is listing down (rather for my own future reference, heh) the sites that I'd wanted to visit but did not get to. This will be later on in the entry though. I was actually a chaperone on this trip to my maternal grandparents, which was why I was even invited in [View Full Entry]
