I'm a 22 year old who's put off the real world long enough to go on a 6 week backpacking trip all over europe. Although I've never been to Europe before I have traveled to China, Mexico, the Caribbean and the southeastern U.S.

Well quite a bit has happened since the last entry... we got on a train to alexandria at around 12pm and it took about 3 hours. Alexandria and Cairo were much different than I was expecting. I expected cairo to be a more world class city with skyscrapers and just more modern over all and I expected Alexandria to be a bit nicer as well since apparently a lot of european tourists visit alexandria but both places were a bit run down. The hotel in Alexandria was really nice, no doubt the nicest hotel in th city and we got a really good dinner at a restaurant called Tikka Grill which is right on the corniche (boardwalk)... After that we headed towards Fort Qait-Bay and met a group of 3 Egyptian men who just kinda came ... read more

Well everyone, i dont have a huge amount of time so i gonna keep this pretty short and sweet.. 15hrs and about 5000 miles later we arrived in Cairo at around 4pm only about 30 mins late. We got to the airport and got our bags, bought our visas and went through security.. We were supposed to meet up with people from out hostel who were picking us up from the airport but we had no idea whether anyone would actually be there or not and we were pleasantly surprised when we walked through the door and saw someone hold my friends name on a sign. He took us onto the airport shuttle where it became pretty apparent that we would not be blending in at all on this trip and most people just kinda ... read more

Well after 7 weeks of traveling im starting to look forward to going home. Im a bit burned out from sightseeing but now that im in Berlin i´m gonna try to get some energy from somewhere since theres a ton of cool stuff to see in this city, Hitlers bunker, remnants of the Berlin wall etc. so i think im gonna take a couple walking tours because its jsut makes it easier and you get a lot more out of the sights than just going and looking at them, its puts everything in some sort of perspective. Prague was cool but really hot, prob around 90 which really made it difficult to get motivated to see anything. I took a small tour and walked through the Prague castle myself but besides that I ddnt do too ... read more

The other night after I posted we met up with Herbert at a Jazz club and i got some dinner, we watched live jazz until around1030 or so and then headed off to a dance club which was a good time. They played some dance songs I remember form back in the day..."Let the sunshine" Neil if youre reading these you'll remember that one. Even the dance club was very similar to any other club ive been to, here in europe or back in the states. Id say on the whole, people dont really vary much even across cultures as different as New Yorkers and Slovakians(Slovaks?) from the tiny town of Plestany. The place started emptying out around 3am so we went back to the hotel and slept until around 12 and got lunch and met ... read more

Now I know you guzs are wondering how the hell I ended up in Slovakia. Well I was in Munich and looking for a cheap ride to Vienna and the people at the hostel told us about a place called something like Mitzfahrl-Centrale (thats really not even close to whats its called) and you basically get set up with people going to or near places and you pay the agency and give the person a specified amount. So we paid the 25 euros and met the driver Herbert. This guy turned out to be some awesome Slovakian sho was heading to the town im in now called Plestány. He arranged to hotel for us which costed a little more than expected at nearly 25 euros each per night for me and Austin. But its a pretty ... read more

Yesterday was a lot of fun biking in the Alps albeit once again, quite dangerous flying down gravel paths. Pretty much anything fun here involves danger but it was a good time, canyoning was my favorite sport that I did here. But after 4 days I was once again ready to head off somewhere new, and less expensive. Switzerland was ridiculously expensive, no seriously really really expenisive. We got up at 6am this morning after not going to sleep until around 2am after passing around a bottle of Jager with some of the other people at the hostel but i wanted to make the 7am train to Munich. Actually it was pretty sweet because we just slept at the hostel without paying last night because theres no room keys or anything and so many people work ... read more

I got to Interlaken a few days ago and its been intense. Yesterday I went Canyoning which is basically a combo of high jumps into waterfalls and rock climbing, and body surfing down the river. We did a few jumps, one from about 10ft and the higest one from about 40ft it was crazy. We also layed down and let the water just carry you down the rapids, seemed pretty dangerous but only 2 people got minor cuts. I only got 2 mins of the internet left but in about an hour ill be jumping off a cliff and hangliding, kinda crazy. Ill try to buy a token later and let you all know how it goes.... read more

As if the italians need more time off, theres a train strike tomorrow so apparently most train service will be delayed. Right now im in a campsite about 30 mins outside of venice called Camping Fusina, its a nice break from hostels. Im actually traveling with someone I met in Cinque terre which was awesome. The first nice we got a few bottles of wine and just watched the sunset over the water. There was no crazy nightlife or anything so it was jsut pretty chill all the way around. Someone I met in florence and cinque terre recommended this campsite because its where all the contiki tours stop so theres quite a nightlife here. Theyre mostly aussies...shocker. But actually theyre pretty cool and its been a good time. Today I left venice for a town ... read more

Well I got up at 545am in order to get to Termini station for a 647 train to Florence. I didnt get much sleep on the train so im a little tired now but I got an espresso so thats helped a little bit. I wanted to get here early to have the full day rather than sleep in and get here at 4pm...my train got in before 10 and I saw the duomo and david before noon. I went over to the Tourist office and got a map of the city and she recommended the Duomo and David so I did both of those earlier. Im not sure how long im gonna stay here, im thinking about heading to cinque terre tomorrow morning. I have to call a hostel in a little bit to find ... read more

I was about to post a journal entry last night when one of my roommates came running into the computer lab saying that everyones bags had been broken into so I went running upstairs and my backpack still looked intact, the zippers were still locked shut. But then when I turned my bag and looked at the other side the zipper had been ripped open and my camera and memory cards, cash, and some other stuff had been left in there and LUCKILY they were still there. The only thing missing from anyones bag was a train ticket to florence from another girls bag. Interesting. No one knows what happened, I left the window open and my clothes hanging outside and theres a blacony in relatively close range but the people in that room is a ... read more
