What does my title mean, you ask? well im not sure. But i think it means to get geared up or excited about somthing. What am i excited about? Getting out of this damn town! the only reason anyone is here is to work in the coal mine. Which explains why when i arrived there were no vacancy signs up everywhere. (its not because this town is so charming!) The last 5 days it has rained NON STOP. I cannot believe the entire town isnt under water (i hear that happens quite frequently) Thankfully I made some Aussie friends and they took me around the town and had me over for dinner (twice), which was great becasue the last 3-4 days i have spend at McDonalds and in my room watching movies, LAME. They were good ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie Beach November 18th 2010

Went out on a sailing trip yesterday to the Whitsunday Islands. There were only 4 other people on our sailboat, called "Illusions" which was kind of nice. The Dive Lady on the boat talked me into doing another dive out there at a place called "The Maze" just like its name, there is lots of swim thoughts, caves, ect so we swam though a bunch of them. Some of them were quite narrow and made me a little nervous..Naomi (Dive Guide) had a cult follwing of about 200 fish that followed her during the entire dive...couldnt figure out why until, at the end of the dive we sat on the bottom and she opened up a can of fish food. So we watched them swim all around us eating up the food. was pretty cool. I ... read more

Right now im watching out the window of my train from Cairns to Airlie Beach. and i was just thinking "when am i going to see an Kangaroo?" then i looked out my window and saw one hopping through the trees!!!!!!!!!! of course by a about an hour later i have seen more than i can count. Invited my friends from the dive boat to go celebrate getting our advanced certification! We went to a place called the woolshed. its a major backpacker joint. it was crowded and expensive, so we ate dinner there and went to the hostels game room area and shared a box of goon (boxed wine) and played pool. It was really fun. We each made toasts in our own languages, so german, swedish, swedish again and cantoneese. Jack from Hong Kong ... read more

Oceania November 13th 2010

well from Carins, i hopped aboard a boat taking us to our diving vessel called the Kangaroo Explorer. I met my first Australian since ive been here (everyone else has been a visitor) so i was excited to ask him all sorts of questions, one of the things i was excited to ask about was the general feeling of white Australians towards Aboriginal Australians since its seems like their is some animosity. As luck would have it, he is actually a tour guide and knew loads about Australian history and about Aboriginal culture, anyway, i wont boar you with the enitre story only some facts (that hopefully i wont mixup:) ) so apparently there are over 600 different tribes with about 250 different languages. And, the one thing i did know, they are the oldest goup ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Cairns November 10th 2010

G'day mates, Made it to Carins. Long journey.... on my last flight i watched an aboriginal lady get escorted off the plane by federal police. I dont know what that was about..... this morning i woke up and was so happy because i had litterally nothing to do today, or the next day or the next. i have nowhere to be and can do anything i want to! man that feels good. so i spent the day doing exactly that. nothing. biggest decision of the day was probably wheter or not to lay in the sun or go inside and take a nap. Cairns is soooo hot. Its a small place with loads of backpackers from all over the globe. lots of germans it seems. So many i feel like i rarely see an Australia person ... read more

Oh the preparation that goes into a trip... The planning and stressing and buying little gadgets. Ryan and I were just talking about how no matter where you are going you always kind of picture a place in your mind before you see it. And then when you do see it....its nothing like you imagined. So for this trip I set out to not over plan and over visualize so as to not be disappointed by anything. Instead I will have little to no expectations and just wander around Australia taking life as it comes. And I will try to remember that it is not much of an adventure if nothing ever goes wrong..... With that said... (Ryan or Alisha, Ashly and mom, please remind me of that when i call freaking out because something ... read more

Asia » South Korea » Seoul » Insadong May 1st 2009

Seoul was great. We did our best to stay dry (it rained all day) it was really easy to get around the city. And we took advantage of the tourist information booths they have everywhere. In fact we went into the same one at least 4 times. The lady at the counter laughed much at us. Also Ryan and I decided Seoul’s Incheon airport is our favorite so far. Its like a mall. A fancy high-end mall with Gucci, Channel, and Coach. We can’t afford shit there but it is nice to look at. Ryan happened to notice something while we were coming through Seoul on the way to Thailand. Almost every single couple was wearing matching outfits. He had counted like 13 in just a few minutes. Apparently it’s the cool thing to do there. ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Phi Phi Don April 28th 2009

Well I did it,.. And I’m a changed person now. Yep….I’m a certified Scuba diver. How does it feel you ask?.....GREAT. I did my four open water dives in the Phi Phi islands marine park. The first two were shallow dives just off Phi Phi Ley. We saw so much marine life!! I will try to list what I can name: Two Leopard sharks, a small Stingray, Puffer fish, Clownfish (nemos), Butterfly fish, Sweet lips, Angelfish, Yellow boxfish, Moorhead Idols, a poisonous black striped sea snake ( I hid behind my dive buddy when we saw this one) a tiny eel, Turtles, Lionfish, sea cucumbers, a huge lobster-looking thing (don’t recall the name) and so many more. At one point on the last dive we saw this giant puffer fish below us, watching us swim ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Khao Lak April 25th 2009

We'll im back-tracking because I havent gotten around to updating.. so lets see........Well we left Northern Thailand which was quite tragic really. We both liked it so much. The food was amazing and the people were great. Thai people are unlike any other. they are very soft spoken, polite, and modest. (which is interesting given the fact that Thailand has such a bad reputation for prostitution) That reminds me....Gambling is illegal in Thailand...but... you can play the lottery.....hmmmm..anyway...im getting off topic.... we left Chiang Rai and arrived in Phuket at about 6PM....and then we drove about an hour to Khao Lak where I was suposed to finish my diving certification in the Similan Islands. The Similans are suposed to have some of the best diving in Thailand (arguably the world) so naturally I was chrushed when ... read more

Asia » Thailand » North-West Thailand » Chiang Rai April 24th 2009

Well we were suposed to be leaving for Phuket thursday and at the very last minute i changes my mind. surprising, right? actually we had already purchased out tickets...then all of the sudden i was like "wait! im not ready to leave yet"........... of course by this time it was too late to change our tickets..so i bought new ones...for saturday. that is how much i wanted to see more of northern Thailand. luckily tickets for in thailand flights are relativley inexpensive. anyway the plan was to stay in a remote hill tribe villiage 23 kilometers outside Chiang Rai ( which means nothing to us americans...we think in miles) anyway, the people running the guest house out there pick us up with a few other travelers from Holland and we were off. It was a long ... read more
