Right now im watching out the window of my train from Cairns to Airlie Beach. and i was just thinking "when am i going to see an Kangaroo?" then i looked out my window and saw one hopping through the trees!!!!!!!!!! of course by a about an hour later i have seen more than i can count.
Invited my friends from the dive boat to go celebrate getting our advanced certification! We went to a place called the woolshed. its a major backpacker joint. it was crowded and expensive, so we ate dinner there and went to the hostels game room area and shared a box of goon (boxed wine) and played pool. It was really fun. We each made toasts in our own languages, so german, swedish, swedish again and cantoneese.
Jack from Hong Kong told us lots of interesting things about Hong Kong that i didn’t know. Like did you know that Hong Kong is independent from China? Chinese people have to get a visa to travel to Hong Kong. But Hong Kong people don’t have to have a visa to travel to China. He was hilarious. He told us that he works for a tour company
in Cairns so he gets free tours. he has done diving, horse riding all this stuff and he said he is going bungee jumping next week. he said " I dont even like bungee jumping. but its free. and i think i get to wear a superhero suit." lol.
My legs are sooo tired still from all that diving. it really wiped me out. getting up at 5:30 am for fist dive of the day, then another at 11, 1, and 4pm. The last one at 8-9pm....im sooo tired.
EEEHHHH!!! i just saw wallabies out my window!!! there was like 6 of them! im finally starting to feel like im in Australia!
(NEXT DAY) Airlie beach- spent the most of the day sitting at McDonalds people watching then walking around the main street. Its soo beautiful. Swarming with backpackers. Can count on one hand the amount of people I have seen over the age of 30. SOOO touristy. Not really feeling this place, but I have a week to kill until I go to Rebecca and Darens place in Ibilbie. I used to think Hawaii was touristy. This place makes Hawaii look like a deserted island. Okay..
maybe not, but close. Got soaking wet walking back to where im staying, it is a ways from the city center. The wet season has come early.
Everyone comes here for the same reason, to take sailing trips out the the beautiful Whitsunday Islands and snorkel/dive the Great Barrier reef. That and shopping or laying on the beach is about the only thing to do here. Im trying to resist shopping (okay i did buy a thing or two..) and im sunburnt so here iam sitting inside McDonalds for the free internet and AC. this net-book the best idea ever (thank you Ryan!) hopefully finbding internet will be this way everywhere I go here.
I want to go on a sailing trip but it is soo bloody expensive!!!! This morning I paid $8 for an iced coffee and a snack wrap at McDonalds. Ridiculous! I might get skinny here. The harbor here is amazing; though. full of beautiful sailboats and yachts, and the water is clear, beautiful blue. Its gorgeous.
Thinking of skipping Sydney altogether. Maybe skipping Alice/Uluru (the big rock) and setting out for Western Aus instead. Guess I won’t meet a rich sheep
farmer then haha sorry Grandpa.
Still have sea legs! and cant hear well out of my right ear. I feel like im constantly swaying and im always going " huh? come again?" when someone talks to me so people proabably thing im either drunk or a little slow…lol.
Going to try to get out of here and get to Mackay (only 2hrs from here) by tomorrow or the next day.
until then, cheers!
P.s Having touble with my bank posting charges twice again. this time i have 600 bucks less in my account than i should. can someone please go overthere and smack them upside the head? this is the third time......it is getting re-darn-diculous.
