Monday After a rest we went downstairs at 7 o'clock to the lobby snd met some friends who live in the Perth area. We went to a restaurant called Miss Maudes and had drinks while we chatted and gleaned local information. Tuesday An early start today as we have to be out of the room by 10.00 and we are off to pick up our camper van. I had another bad nights sleep, hopefully I will adjust soon. For general information we are 8 hours ahead of GMT. We went to breakfast at about 8.30 and managed to get some food this time. It was all very nicely presented. Back up to the room and packed the last few bits and pieces. Down to reception just before 10.00, check out was at 10.00 and handed the ... read more

I am backtracking a little here as the the last stages of the blog yesterday were written under extreme tiredness. As I was writing as my eyes were closing and I didn't go into as much detail as I may have liked. Sunday After we arrived at the hotel by taxi, we went into reception snd our booking was found easily enough. Our room is on the Penthouse floor, although I wouldn't set your imagination of luxury running to high. The place is ok, but a little tired and far from new. At best 2 star, but more than adequate for our needs for a couple of days. We are paying more at AU$ 310 for two nights bed and breakfast, which is more than we did at the Ramada Plaza in Bangkok. We settled in ... read more

Saturday Time for more travelling, today we leave Thailand and head for Perth, via Sydney. Our flight is 18.25, so we have a little time earlier in the day, to do a couple of things. We packed, went down to the lobby area to leave our luggage at the concierge and pay our bill at reception. The service as always at the hotel was excellent. Our total bill at the hotel for the four nights was TB 10,117, which works out roughly £25 per person per night. Not bad for a five star hotel. We had spotted a couple of places of interest along the road, the first being The Protestant cemetery. A cemetery created a number of years ago that allowed somewhere for foreigners that died in Bangkok to be buried. Protestant was probably stretching ... read more

Friday Awake and drinking coffee before 9 o,clock this morning. Opened the curtains to a brighter day, almost blue sky. Hearing and reading news that it's rained heavily back at home in Paphos. Plan for today, heading out for more exploring and visit a different Mall. More mundane tasks at first, we arranged for some laundry to be collected and sorted out by the hotel. Haven't seen anything in the local vicinity laundrywise and when you are away for three months you can only bring so much stuff. As per our usual morning routine we got a take away coffee from the hotel lobby and booked the 1030 river boat at the concierge. Pat had done her usual research and we were heading for the Centralworld Mall allegedly the largest in Asia. This entailed a train ... read more

Thursday As a rough guide for those interested in working out prices, there are roughly 55 Thai Baht to the Pound at the moment. We woke a little earlier today, but not much. We both had a slightly unsettled night and are not adjusted fully to the different time zone yet. Like yesterday we got a take away coffee from the hotel and booked on the 11.30 river boat to the Central pier. We purchased an all day pass for TB 200 again. Our original plan changed a few times on the boat as the rain came down really heavily, so we decided to visit the River Walk Mall. First stop Starbucks! Also like yesterday we had coffee with a ham & cheese croissant. Then a wander round, popped into Boots the chemist - Yes, our ... read more

We finally woke at 10.30 and started getting ready to go out. After showering and so on, we went down to the lobby area of the hotel for a look around. Our plan was to get the boat up the river and do some exploring. We bought some take away coffees from the hotel and made our way down to the hotel river boat. After reading the information we went back up to the concierge desk and got tickets. The boat left at 12.30 and went to the Saphan Taksin central pier where we purchased tickets for the blue flag Chao Prayo Tourist boat at TB150 each for an all day pass. There are nine stops and we rode to the end which took about half an hour ish and at one stage it threw it ... read more

The flight from Larnaca to Dubai was uneventful. It took off more or less on time and again landed on time. Our seats were two on an aisle so we were undisturbed. Our luggage had been checked through to Bangkok so all we had to do was get ourselves across Dubai airport to the next flight. We flew with Emirates and although there was nothing especially wrong with them, I would also say there was nothing particularly special about them either as we were lead to believe. A meal was part of the ticket price and it was ok. Pat had chicken and I had lamb kofte with starters and desserts and all the little knives and forks stuff that you only seem to get on an aircraft. Dubai airport is massive and even though it ... read more

Middle East October 19th 2015

The journey has begun. A willing volunteer picked us up from home this morning and dropped us off at the Paphos bus station for the first part of our journey, which was a bus to Limassol. The bus cost €4 each and left on time, we had chance to both enjoy the scenery of the journey as neither of us was driving. We got off the bus in Limassol to change to the Airport express bus. Here we had a snack and passed some time until the bus left at 3 o'clock more or less on time. This one cost €9 each and again was about an hours journey being dropped off at the airport. The check in desks were not open when we arrived so we had tea, coffee and a chocolate muffin to pass ... read more

Well after months of planning (by Pat) we picked up our flight tickets for next Monday 19 October. Departing Larnaca we head for Dubai then on to Bangkok for 4 nights. After that heading for Perth and nearly 3 months traveling around Australia. Planes, trains and automobiles will be involved and apparently we even get to see a 'Big banana' in Coffs Harbour! We hope to catch up with a few friends and family along the way and visit a country that neither of us has been to before. More soon. ... read more

Wednesday 6th July 2011 Awake at our usual time and down for breakfast and back to the room and our last packing for a while. Down to reception about 11 o'clock and pay our bill for the four nights. It was €70 per night including a good breakfast which, for a half decent hotel in the centre of a capital city, we thought was a very good price. Then made our way to the Metro station and purchased our one way airport ticket. The fare is €8 for a single and for some reason €14 for a couple. One change on the Metro which we are getting to know well and then a train all the way out to the airport. The only thing is the Metro doesn't link directly into the airport, you come out ... read more
