Thursday 26th May, 2011 Packed our stuff again and left our cases at reception in the Nemesis for the day. We had a breakfast in the cafe just down the road. Full breakfast, which included home made baked bread with butter and jam. The bread was wonderful. Bacon, eggs and tomato, with orange juice and coffee, for €5.90 each. Set us up for the day wonderfully. Then wandered off to into Thira and on the way to find the wonderful exhibition described in all the guides at the Nomikos Conference Centre. We duly found the exhibition and it was shut. We were not far from the cable car down to the old port and went to find it just so we knew where it was for later, as it was about 1230 now and we needed ... read more

Wednesday 25th May 2011 Pat popped out to the Carrefour first thing to get some bread rolls for our breakfast. We had this and packed up our stuff. We were due to move rooms this morning. I spoke to reception and the other room wasn't ready yet so we left our stuff and went for a walk. We left the hotel and went to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira just up the road, entrance fee €3 each. As Greek museums go not bad and tells a lot about the city they are still excavating at Akrotiri at the other end of the island, which is not open at the moment because of an accident in 2005. After this as we were next to the bus station decided to pop to the northern town of the island, ... read more

Sunday 22nd May 2011 contd We had a short stroll around the immediate vicinity early in the evening just to loosen our legs a little. We looked in the tourist shops but didn't spend any money. Did a little surfing in reception and that was really it for the day. Monday 23rd May, 2011. Plan for the day, get back to Iraklion, book ferry for Santorini for Tuesday and find accommodation for the night. We packed up our stuff paid the bill, retrieved my passport and left about 9.30. We stopped at a little roadside cafe along the way for some coffees but basically drove straight through arriving 1230 ish. We had missed the port turn off so ended up coming off the main road at the airport, drove past and took the lesser road back ... read more

Saturday 21st May, 2011 We went for a short stroll in the early evening nothing too much as both our legs were still not cooperating fully. We ended up back at the apartments and stopped for a drink. To say the barman is extroverted would be this years understatement. The reception area has wireless internet so I posted a blog and Pat was talking to some young Norwegian girls while waiting for me. We went back to the room which completed the day. Sunday 22nd May 2011 We woke had a coffee, showered and headed off to Hania, we parked in the underground car park again and walked to the Old Harbour. We had some coffees and then ambled around deciding on a place to view the Red Arrows display. On the western side we saw ... read more

Tuesday 17th May, 2011 cont'd We rested for a little while, then popped out for an afternoon beer at the Fox & Hounds next door. Sat directly next to the pavement which gave us a birds eye view of everything passing in the street, as always not all was a good sight. Then back to the hotel and wandered out again later for something to eat. We had spotted a likely place the night before called Mesogiako's - which the owner later said meant Mediterranean, a very hospitable chap. We had a Greek salad, Mixed grill and Calamari. With drinks and some free coffee again came in at a reasonable price. Then an amble back to the hotel. Wednesday 18th May, 2011 Up for breakfast and then back to the room to pack our stuff. Pat ... read more

Monday 16th May 2011 Malia Crete The hotel we are staying is the Hotel Neon in Malia, Pat booked it on the internet and it is €20.00 per night for both of us including breakfast. Breakfast was continental in style with cheese, ham and bread several other things. Tea, coffee and juices all help yourself to as much as you want and very satisfactory. Today we had decided to revisit Agios Nikolaos and Makrigialos, we left about 10 and tootled off into the sun. Talking of which, the weather is better here than when we left Cyprus. The spring this year in Cyprus has been very disappointing. We found our way with no real difficulties as we had spent 5 weeks on Crete two and a half years ago, of which we have very fond memories. ... read more

Sunday 15th May 2011 Our friends Pauline & Malcolm had very kindly offered us a lift to Larnaca airport - about a two hour journey from Pegeia - and they were picking us up at 1100. We did our final packing and closed the house down. The journey to the airport flashed past as we nattered in the car and the journey only took an hour and a half. Traffic was very light. We had some lunch at the airport before wishing Pauline and Malcolm a safe journey home. We checked in and went through to departures with no hassle. The flight was an Aegean A3 913 to Iraklion, Crete. It turned out that there were only about 25 people on the flight, I haven't been on an as empty plane for years. A pasta hot ... read more

Another adventure starts, this time the Greek Islands without a car. We have a flight booked to Iraklion, Crete, tomorrow Sunday 15th May, 2011 and the general plan is to do some ferry hopping around the Islands, with no particular itinerary in mind other than where the next ferry takes us. We have visited a number of Islands over the years and obviously hope to add some new ones to the list.... read more
