Ice cream nougat dessert
The flight from Larnaca to Dubai was uneventful. It took off more or less on time and again landed on time. Our seats were two on an aisle so we were undisturbed. Our luggage had been checked through to Bangkok so all we had to do was get ourselves across Dubai airport to the next flight. We flew with Emirates and although there was nothing especially wrong with them, I would also say there was nothing particularly special about them either as we were lead to believe. A meal was part of the ticket price and it was ok. Pat had chicken and I had lamb kofte with starters and desserts and all the little knives and forks stuff that you only seem to get on an aircraft.
Dubai airport is massive and even though it was 1 o'clock in the morning there were people everywhere and all of the shops were open and running at full pelt. We had a look around and stopped for refreshments of Moroccan mint tea and Pat had a croissant. We were able to pay in Euros and got a little change in Dirhams so got a chance to look at the UAE currency.

Ramada Plaza hotel The first flight was 3 and a bit hours. The second flight was six hours. We had been given landing cards on the plane to Bangkok which we duly filled in.
After landing we proceeded to Immigration and queued for a while, got through with no problem and then on to baggage. Pat's came through first and mine a little later.
We then headed out into Arrivals with a hubbub of people. Pat had booked the Ramada Plaza hotel and had a good idea of the journey which was by train and boat. We were stopped by a tourist outfit who tried to sell us some trips but helped us anyway with our journey and directions. We found our way down to the Station and bought our token for the journey. We had to change and buy another ticket which we again did succesfully, by now we were at the river and had to wait ashort for our river boat. on board we were welcomed with water and a towel. Just a few minutes up the river and we were dropped off at the hotel some time after 3 o'clock.
Our check in was no problem and a great room over looking the river. As we hadn't really slept last night we knew that if we stopped now we would sleep for ages and wake up in the middle of the night, so we went out about 6 o'clock and visited the Asiatique Mall a short walk away.
The Mall was an uncovered area, large with lots of people continually arriving by boat, locals and tourists by the look of them.
We were here to eat and there were a number of restaurants, we tried one which was fully booked apparently and went next door to the Brasiere 2, a French restaurant holding a German beer festival! I had the special set menu of prawn cocktail, french onion soup, rolled chicken and nougat ice cream. Pat had the salmon tartar and steak. So much for eating Thai food. The Mall has large wheel like the London eye.
After dinner wandered back to the hotel and popped into a 7 Eleven shop and picked up some water and milk for the room. We were back in the room for about 8 o,clock. Not long after our eyes were closing and we went to sleep.
