Ok so I landed in Delhi on 20th July and was met by Pranay who took me to a random little hotel and told me an American girl would be joining me at 1am! As promised this happened, her name was Tess and she arrived very late and I left very early for the bus so didn't see much of her but she was going to be part of the summer programme. I was put on a bus to Jaipur, which was fine, strange man sat next to me but hey I survived and was met in Jaipur by Zarkeel, our driver. He took me to the volunteer home where I met Alex and Marie, other volunteers, and had lunch and settled in a bit. Marie is from Vienna and Alex is from Connecticut, US. Marie ... read more

So we arrived in Phnom Penh later than expected - by about 6 hours! Obviously a nap was required before wandering around in search of the market where we found amazing doughnuts and books for 2 dollars! Then onto the independence monument but were chased away by the guards, so we moved onto the park where we suppressed our giggles at everybody doing their dance classes and gym routines - so tempted to join in! Spent a while chilling out by the river where we tried to guess all the flags, definitely needed James back for his boy knowledge! To end our first day in Cambodia we went for dinner and cocktails with some Scottish girls that we met at the hostel. Our second day was chocker block with sightseeing; we started at the royal palace ... read more

Ok, so we spent a long 2days on a boat on the Mekong looking at amazing scenery and stopping at lots of little villages to exchange, rice, meat, people, and much more. We spent the night in a little town which is only accessible by boat I think but they still had the world cup on so we watched England's final group match. On the boat we met Sophie and Tori from the south coast. Then we arrived in Luang Prabang which was lovely. There is an obvious French influence there so we ate pain au chocolat, baguettes, etc but still had noodles for dinner. We got up at 5.30am to see the monks collect alms, we explored several temples, the palace and watched the sunset from the top of a hill with a sprinkling of ... read more

Ok so we got the night ferry to Ko Tao and actually all slept very well. We were met at the ferry by a very happy bustling lady and went to stay at her Bungalows which were in between both of the main beaches which meant it was a walk into town but nice quiet spot and cheap! That day we went on a snorkelling trip which was fun to see all the coral and fishes but it actually rained proper rain, not tropical rain. It was strange and much warmer in the sea than out! In our group were 2 guys called Dave and Matt and a girl called Susie. That night we all met for drinks and ended up dancing on the beach at a bar till the early hours. The next day we ... read more

Ok, so since I last blogged Grandma and Grandad came to visit and we had some great days out and a wonderful trip to Wilsons Prom with Joseph and Eva. Otherwise I was mainly working at the cafe and as a nanny. The work as a nanny came thick and fast once I got started. It was then sad when I had to say bye to everyone and lots of people wanted to me to stay which was nice however I left and headed to Singapore! It was so much fun to see Lou and James. We saw the sights, including a tour on kick scooters. It took me a while to get the hang of it but then it was a great way to get around. Then we flew to Borneo where we went to ... read more

I returned from NZ and spent the next few days, applying for jobs, looking after my cousins and the house, while my auntie Rach was away on a course. Then I left for Sydney! I landed and headed straight to Kings Cross to a hostel called Sugar Shack where I met Jen(friend I'd met in NZ) and her brother, David, who had not been in Oz long but long enough to have made friends with birthday celebrations we could join in with so that night we headed out for a dance at the club associated with our hostel after having been to the hostel across the road to meet some of his friends, 2 from Blackpool! Small world! The next day we left that hostel (and Jens brother) and moved to Bondi, where we stayed at ... read more

Ok, so after Wanaka we moved on to Queenstown. On our journey there we stopped at puzzling world, which has the worlds first 3D maze and to be honest we found it pretty hard, and on arrival at Kawarau gorge, a few of my friends did the original bungy jump from the Kawarau bridge over the river, we were also shown a quick film of how it all started and where they tested the rope before it became commercial. When we arrived into Queenstown we got a group photo taken, sunbathed on the beach at Lake Wakatipu with the Remarkables in the background before a couple of early drinks at the Irish pub and then we went out, again! Queenstown is renowned for its nightlife and it lived up to expectations! The next day we finally ... read more

Continuing on..the next day we left Taupo and had a little walk in the NP, saw a couple of waterfalls, etc then we were off to River Valley, this was my favourite place we stayed! It was literally a hostel/outward bound centre on a river and that was it, we parked the bus at the top of the drive and had to walk down! :-) By the hostel the river was very calm so we could swim and there was a rope swing/pully bridge across the river which you could jump in off. They also had a cosy way of setting up some dorms-8mattresses in a row on the bottom bunk and another 8 on the top bunk, good job we all knew each other by this stage! The scenery here was just beautiful and the ... read more

So...I left Melbourne on 11th Jan and said goodbye to the unnecessarily high temps of 46degC and landed in Auckland close to midnight but then due to them leaving half our luggage in Melbourne for the next flight to bring it took me an exceeding long time to get out of the airport and through what they term bio-security. But waiting on the other side, despite the late hour were Mike and Nicky (relatives of Jane, Roland, Sarah-Jane and Thomas). I was driven back to their house on north shore and met the boys, Ben (19) and David (17) who had definitely changed since I had last seen them possibly 10years ago! The next morning Mike and Nicky took me to some of their favourite beaches and cafes on the north shore and then we got ... read more

Ok so after my trip to Sydney I spent most of my time applying for jobs, having an interview or two, riding horses, seeing church friends as well as a few meals/trips out with Pili and Simon. Additionally I started some volunteer work through church, Friday mornings I help out a playgroup with 2 disabled twins and Thursday evenings I also go into the city and give out free pancakes. Its a nice community act and hopefully shows all Christians are not judgmental and homophobic, which apparently is the general perception! It's also pretty fun and good for getting to know people! Labour Day-8th March we had a family day out to Marysville to see some waterfalls. Me and SJ had been last time we were in Oz but this time we couldn't actually get to ... read more
