Drove to Coromandel yesterday in the mist and rain. Thought I had taken a wrong turn at one stage as I drove for miles and didn't see another car. The road was very steep and windy through the mountains and in parts no barriers scary!! Eventually saw some other cars which was reassuring. Arrived at Hot Beach springs where for two hours either side of low water you can build little baths with sand and hot water flows in from beneath the earth. Everyone is congregated together as it only happens in a space about thrifty feet wide. This is due to volcanic activity from years ago which has left very hot rocks the water seeps down is heated and then is drawn up again. Today went to Hahei where you find Cathedral Cove, it's about ... read more

Yesterday spent the day exploring Maketu, it's on the coast approx 45minutes by car from Rotorua. Its about the size of a small village, there is what looks like a small creek behind the beach on one of the beaches on the other side is a gorgeous long beach. I walked down there and when I got to the beach there were about thirty people ointo and the beach just went on and on, lovely. Walked along the beach quite a way the weather was nice so I decided to dip ,y toes in the water, it wasn't as cold as at home but not as warm as Fiji. The weather was beautiful very warm but with a breeze. Today's visited Tu Puia to discover the many layers of Maori history. Te Heketanga a Rangi is ... read more

Arrived in Auckalnd and spent a little time sorting out a new SIM card for my phone and a hire car. Stayed in Auckland overnight and decided to set off early in the morning. With my lovely little satnav to show me the way had was so on on my way to Rotorua which is about a three hour drive from Auckland. I just could not believe how quiet the roads were, it was very rural and a lot like the English countryside. Arrived in Rotorua and decided after a visit to the tourist information centre that I would visit the buried village of Te Wairoa. In 1886 a catastrophic eruption of nearby Mount Tarawera by destroyed a tourist village. Prior to the eruption people came from far and wide to bathe in the Pink and ... read more

Arrived in Fiji after a ten and half hour flight from LA. Was so glad to leave LA all the hustle and bustle, traffic and noise. Once i had collected my baggage was we left there was a Fijian band singing on our arrival at 5.30am that's dedication for you. The bus ride to Rakiraki took three long hours, it was boling hot very humid and the bus was full. I then had to take a taxi to Ellingham wharf where the boat came across to meet me. so a further twenty minutes on a boat. It took longer because we had to get a wardrobe on a a very small boat and the wardrobe didn't quite fit so we had to put it in at a bit of an angle. So when we eventually arrived ... read more

Las Vegas is not necessarily a place I would have chosen to go however I think you should experience everything in life once, you never know you can be surprised. The day I went to Vegas didn't start too well, my last host Rane went on a date the night before I left she had a bit too much to drink and ended up with a hangover nothing much to worry about you might think!!! She kindly offered to drop me off at the bus stop which was great however she dropped me off at the wrong bus stop, which meant I missed my bus from LA. Fortunately I managed to catch the next bus and only had to pay a $15 fee. The journey to Las Vegas took just over six hours on a bus ... read more

Sunday Rane got her bike fixed, so Imwas able to borrow it. Rode to Santa Monica along the bikeway on the beach. There is a fair on the pier at Santa Monica and at the end near the beach some sort of concert going on. Loads of music on the pier, young girl singing and a guy playing the steel drums. Stopped and had a walk in to Santa Monica, some nice views of the mountains from here. Cycled back then went for a meal with Rane. Today Rane took me to Sunset Strip and Hollywood Boulevard, it was much as I had expected. Stars all along the pavements some going back years and some more recent. Also visited the place where they stick their hand and feet in the concrete. Will smiths feet looked huge!! ... read more

Arrived back in LA shortly after a bond scare in the centre of the city, it was mayhem. The subway trains were all blocked up the the freeways blocked solid. On the bus from the station to Marina Del Rey I caught the airport bus which was the cheapest way of getting there, there was a woman across from me shouting at the driver because she was going to miss her flight, the journey which normally takes about half an hour took an hour. Arrived at my destination an hour late couldn't find the house so rang the host who came to meet me. The house is very small after the last place but it one block from the sea about twenty yards, lovely. Yesterday walked along the beach from Marina Del Rey, to Venice, which ... read more

Up early to cath the MUNI and the hop on hop off bus, which is the cheapest way to get to Muir Woods. tours tend to be about $20 dearer. At the bus stop met Madeline who was from Hile and travelling on her own. First stop was Sausaliso which is a pretty little town the property here is very expensive, millions of dollars and lived in about three months of the year.nnsome nice little boutique shops, ventured in to one with Madeline, it had some really nice glass pieces if you have four thousand dollars to spend, how the other half live eh!!!! Had a quiet day yesterday suffering from the after effects of a big walk from Market St to the Golden Gate Bridge the day before so watched surfers and slept on the beach. Today awoke ready for my visit to Alcatraz looked out of the window guess what, foggy still I guess it sets the scene for the visit. Caught the MUNI in to SF everyone was either plugged in to a phone or looking like a zombie standing or sitting with their eyes shut. The train was really crowded and all these people with their eyes closed was like something off a horror movie. Anyway arrived at the quay ready to catch the boat. Can't believe the difference in the weather from yesterday to today the temperature must have dropped about twent five degrees. So ... read more

Settling in nicely to life in SF weather has been warm and sunny so far and have spent the last two days chilling on the beach. It's about a twenty minute walk to the beach the sand is quite a dark colour which I wasn't expecting, suppose I've been spoilt with our lovely golden sand beaches in Bournemouth. The surf was definitely up today and there were loads of families and people just enjoying their weekend. I was surprised how few surfers there were actually and the sea temperature was cool. Not as cold as the UK though. I only paddled I hasten to add has to be warm for me to venture into the sea these days.
