Not Going North - jenn and carlo

jenn and carlo Hi we are Carlo, Jenn and Yukon (our dog). 2.5 months ago we decided (Yukon had no say) to leave Winnipeg and move. The 'Not Going North' blog name comes from the fact that we are not sure yet where we are moving to all 'I' know for sure is, is that we are not moving north, north of Winnipeg, north of Portage Ave, north of the 49th latitude, well you get the picture.

Villa Corona >> Colima >> Tecoman
Day 8 Villa Corona >> Colima >> Tecoman >> La Placita on the coast Highlights: the movie Cocoon; vulcano Colima; finally the coast; hot, heat, dust, sweat and no showers We are packing it in today as we are leaving the hotspring, but not before a final visit in the morning. As we walk over to the hotsprings Carlo says to me "doesn't this remind you of the movie Cocoon?, lets tell the folkies that we are really 80 years old and have been coming to these hotsprings forever" I laugh, yes I think it is a great plan as we really feel kinda [View Full Entry]

Villa Corona (Chimulco trailer park) on the West and Lake Chapala to the East.
Day 7 Villa Corona, trailer park Chimulco and the hotsprings Highlights: hotsprings; Lake Chapala; molcajetes We woke up to a cool but beautiful morning and the tradition is, before breakfast you head to the hotsprings, so we went, no need to convince us. I was a little worried about the temperature as l like my waters to be bathtub temperature especially when the outdoor temp is still very chilly but after I poked my toes into the water to let Carlo know it was actually really really warm, we were in the pool within a sec. The hotsprings are part of [View Full Entry]

It was a misty, foggy and smoggy morning, a quick sandwich with peanut butter and jam a cup of strong coffee and were on the road at around 7.30am. Oh yeah let me tell you about the bathrooms here at the Pemex, they [View Full Entry]

Day 5 - San Antonio, TX >> Saltillo (I do not know the states in Mexico so from now on I will leave them out) Highlights: truck permit; pollution; Pemex We packed a few last minutes things into the truck and planned to meet mom and dad at the Flying J (truck stop or a travel plaza as they like to call them now a days) our last stop in our current civilization about 5km north of the border. Carlo and I needed coffee for the road (as you know we got hooked on Starbucks, we blame it on the road [View Full Entry]

Day 3 - Emporia, KS >> San Antonio, TX Yahooo, yippee 150km down the Kansas Turnpike, I was in heaven, (I do believe I was a race car driver in my previous life, Sandy can attest to that). Nebraska and Oklahoma again were pain free, exiting free, but not snow free. I believe it was about 30miles north of the Texas state border when we finally could not find anymore snow and believe me I was looking as I just could not believe that snow could travel this far south. 30miles (30miles is 30minutes of driving = half an hour = [View Full Entry]

Day 2 - Watertown, SD >> Emporia, KS We were happy to see that in ND there was no snow, but that changed quickly in SD. Man it was *&%^# cold, cold in the morning, cold in the afternoon, cold in the evening. 'When are we ever leaving Manitoba?' was my question as there was still snow on the ground 1600km south of Winnipeg, the scenery did not change much and did I mention the cold? We realized that the truck was packed wrong yesterday as it swayed too much on the highway, so the heavy stuff, our dufflebags with clothing, [View Full Entry]

Day 1 Winnipeg MB >> Watertown SD - +/-600KM We finally left Ile Des Chenes at 2:30pm on Saturday, I had woken up with a slight headache from a bit too much wine with my sisters and their husbands the night before so I was in no hurry to get ready to leave. I cooked breakfast for my sister's kids, I then drove into WPG to pick up Carlo, who had not been tied down in his room 'never to leave' by his mother, so we could start packing the truck for our Not North road trip. After our first atempt [View Full Entry]
