NEW ANGLE Not seen this angle for the Petronas Towers before...though I would not expect the usual from you guys...so you had met Ali before TBs 10th B'day on 8 April 2011 when we met you guys...keep safe & well to you all.
It was so great to meet you, Faye, Nate and Gabe! I had a great time meeting you all, showing you the nerve center of travelblog. Sadly you were the last visitors to the now closed TravelBlog towers! All the best from Silicon Valley :)
:) "All the best from Silicon Valley" - Must feel good to be able to say this??? :)
All the best for the future Guys, I look forward to seeing how your new surroundings inspire both you and the development of the site! :)
Bad memories of that road! We were the only ones not throwing up on that journey when we did it...there was lots of deep breathing and trying to look at the horizon (difficult when the bus was zig zagging so much!) - we felt battered when we arrived in KL. Although if we had drunk gallons on strawberry milk before the trip all bets would have probably been off too ;). As you say isn't it easier to just build the road straight in the first place?! Nice to see a 'new' blog from you, hope you are all well and settled back into life.
:) I dread any journey which involves switchbacks now. Funnily enough, even with the lingering odour of kid sick all over me, coupled with the switchbacks I never got sick on that journey. Maybe my brain was giving me a break as I was clearly having a pretty shitty journey as it was. :)
Only got 5 more months of blogs to catch up on... It's pretty hard as thankfully/sadly (depending on how you look at it) I managed to find work within a month of returning, coupled with organising the boy's childcare so Faye can start work and organising moving back into our house it's been pretty hectic since our return...
Always dreaming though, we have a masterplan that's going to take quite a while to pull off but watch this space!!! ;)
Thanks.. I'll have to give some credit to the birds themselves though... Almost everywhere we looked they were putting on a show for us. Maybe it was mating season and they all took a shine to my incredible charm and good looks! :-D
I remember the road from Tanah Rata to Tapah well... I threw up almost every time I drove up or down the mountain. It was worse riding in a taxi with durian smells. I counted the number of curves, but have since forgotten the number. Living in Tanah Rata was like living on an island as I was psychologocally isolated from the rest of Malaysia; not wanting to take the road ever again!
Thanks for the description of your time with Ali. Of course, since then he has moved to the States, so I hope to see him when he comes to Colorado.
And thanks for posting the date of your trip rather than when you wrote the blog. It puts things in perspective when one is taking a long trip. Of course, after a trip is long over sometimes it is better to go with themes. So with the map you posted I have a sense of where you are off to next before you returned to the UK where you are now.
Thanks... I like to keep everything chronological, and I also have Faye's hand written journal so I can keep track of dates... It's slow going but I'm getting there, only 5 more months to catch up on! :)
Wow This is one of the best images I have seen in a while. The boulders in the foreground look like they are right in front of the camera until you notice the person standing on them. The whole thing has a surreal beauty. Enjoy!
The colors are brilliant. I remember seeing the one on your arm, Michael, and must say that the color was even more vibrant in real life. Both tats are impressive. :)
Nice tats Proves that it pays off to do your proper research before getting ink done. Apparently you found a great tattoo artist in a country where the majority of Westerners seems to get 'farang' or 'stupid tourist' in Thai script scratched into their skin on some Southern Thai island by one of the many untalented, unscrupulous hacks out there. Congrats on that!
Cheers,
Jens
It's funny actually... many people approached me afterwards commenting how amazing they were, then were really shocked when they found out how much we paid. Especially when theirs (they flash their >insert body part< here) only cost 500 baht. "Erm... Yours is the size of a 10 baht coin, and i cant even make out what it is" :)
love them!!, the colours are so amazing!... I got one of my tattoos in Bangkok as well, but is not at all that impressive... maybe next time I'm there I should pay a visit to this tattooist of yours... looks very professional
You should pay him a visit just to look at his portfolio outside his shop. Amazing work! Sadly it means I want (need) him to complete the rest of my sleeve. So I either wait till he comes to the UK for conventions or go on holiday to Thailand lots!!! :)
OMG! Wow loving the new ink.. so worth the endless hours you sat there getting those done.. just perfect works of art, I can totally see where all that cash went now ;o) If it's ok we might have to steal the details of the artist so we can both pay him a visit next year!
Beautiful :) What awesome work - Faye I have my ribs to kidney area tattoo'd too so I can relate to how much you went through - brave woman! Michael, 12 hour sessions - you're slightly crazy but the resulting pics are worth it. Great blog about tattooing really enjoyed reading this. Whats next?
What's next? tattoo wise or travels? As for tattoos I've still got half an arm to cover so I'm vaguely symmetrical :) Faye is 'never' having any more... of course she's already thinking about more!!! Travel wise, sadly we're back home! I'm very behind in my blogging by about 5 months, came back a couple of weeks ago and are now battling reverse culture shock (and failing)... :)
So... It's been six years since we got back from our big family travels. A lot can happen in six years and the kids are growing at a pace that's completely overwhelming.
We have 'settled' back into life in the UK, which for all its problems is an amazing country and we love it here. We've got back on track with our careers and the kids are progressing well with their schooling.
As for travel, thankfully we still haven't stopped. Over the last few years we've been to a few more places in Europe, spent many weeks in Thailand and Malaysia, celebrated our 10 yea... full info
