Bad memories of that road!
We were the only ones not throwing up on that journey when we did it...there was lots of deep breathing and trying to look at the horizon (difficult when the bus was zig zagging so much!) - we felt battered when we arrived in KL. Although if we had drunk gallons on strawberry milk before the trip all bets would have probably been off too ;). As you say isn't it easier to just build the road straight in the first place?! Nice to see a 'new' blog from you, hope you are all well and settled back into life.

A regal bird
These are probably the best peacock photographs I've ever seen - all of them are stunning!

I remember the road from Tanah Rata to Tapah well...
I threw up almost every time I drove up or down the mountain. It was worse riding in a taxi with durian smells. I counted the number of curves, but have since forgotten the number. Living in Tanah Rata was like living on an island as I was psychologocally isolated from the rest of Malaysia; not wanting to take the road ever again! Thanks for the description of your time with Ali. Of course, since then he has moved to the States, so I hope to see him when he comes to Colorado. And thanks for posting the date of your trip rather than when you wrote the blog. It puts things in perspective when one is taking a long trip. Of course, after a trip is long over sometimes it is better to go with themes. So with the map you posted I have a sense of where you are off to next before you returned to the UK where you are now.

Thanks...
I like to keep everything chronological, and I also have Faye's hand written journal so I can keep track of dates... It's slow going but I'm getting there, only 5 more months to catch up on! :)

Wow
This is one of the best images I have seen in a while. The boulders in the foreground look like they are right in front of the camera until you notice the person standing on them. The whole thing has a surreal beauty. Enjoy!

The colors are brilliant. I remember seeing the one on your arm, Michael, and must say that the color was even more vibrant in real life. Both tats are impressive. :)

Nice tats
Proves that it pays off to do your proper research before getting ink done. Apparently you found a great tattoo artist in a country where the majority of Westerners seems to get 'farang' or 'stupid tourist' in Thai script scratched into their skin on some Southern Thai island by one of the many untalented, unscrupulous hacks out there. Congrats on that! Cheers, Jens

It's funny actually... many people approached me afterwards commenting how amazing they were, then were really shocked when they found out how much we paid. Especially when theirs (they flash their >insert body part< here) only cost 500 baht. "Erm... Yours is the size of a 10 baht coin, and i cant even make out what it is" :)

love them!!, the colours are so amazing!... I got one of my tattoos in Bangkok as well, but is not at all that impressive... maybe next time I'm there I should pay a visit to this tattooist of yours... looks very professional

You should pay him a visit just to look at his portfolio outside his shop. Amazing work! Sadly it means I want (need) him to complete the rest of my sleeve. So I either wait till he comes to the UK for conventions or go on holiday to Thailand lots!!! :)

That is a seriously beautiful tattoo - how could anyone deny they are works of art when they see something like this?!

OMG!
Wow loving the new ink.. so worth the endless hours you sat there getting those done.. just perfect works of art, I can totally see where all that cash went now ;o) If it's ok we might have to steal the details of the artist so we can both pay him a visit next year!

Beautiful :)
What awesome work - Faye I have my ribs to kidney area tattoo'd too so I can relate to how much you went through - brave woman! Michael, 12 hour sessions - you're slightly crazy but the resulting pics are worth it. Great blog about tattooing really enjoyed reading this. Whats next?

What's next? tattoo wise or travels? As for tattoos I've still got half an arm to cover so I'm vaguely symmetrical :) Faye is 'never' having any more... of course she's already thinking about more!!! Travel wise, sadly we're back home! I'm very behind in my blogging by about 5 months, came back a couple of weeks ago and are now battling reverse culture shock (and failing)... :)

Bit behind...
Hey guys Just caught up on this blog.. it's funny just the other day I was wondering how and where you were and still didn't get round to reading it! So you are back home now? Gosh, like Donna & Neil say it just seems like yesterday you were off and we learnt you had lived just down the road from us all that time!! Are you back there now? Interesting to read about your experiences with the boys, I was most interested to see how this went for you with my (Sophie!) wild ideas that it would be a doddle and one day Dale & I could sail off with a couple of kids in tow to save on nursery fees.. maybe it's not quite as rosy as i'd imagined :o) Glad you had a wonderful (if exhausing) time and look foward to hearing all about all your adventures soon... Sophie :o) ps you must have had a whole lot of work done on tattoos!!

Great to Catch up!
I kept checking your blog to see where you were up to in WA, we haven't made it down to Lucky Bay yet (only 20 days holiday a year here and you have to accrue them first!) so that is on our list. You're our inspiration for travelling with children - although we don't have any yet we think the only time we'll be able to do the RTW thing is once they are here, so it's pleasing to see that it can be done!

Congratulations on 1 year of travel!
Absolutly fantastic stuff as i havent dared do more than about 2 weeks with my two little ones dragged along behind me :) I have loved reading your blogs and knowing youre out there visiting all sorts of strange places and it gives me hope that i can convince my hubby we can do similar travel to unknown places like we did pre-kids.... although yet to win this battle :( If you make it back to Perth and are free for a 'playdate' just inbox me...mine are 16 months and 4 years now. I might be able to help out with some kid park ideas...or google 'perth coffee in the park' and you'll find a great website. Keep up the travel and i hope to read more soon :) tam
