It's almost over - boo hiss! But here are a few of my tales to make you seething with jealously!!! My last week here has been UNREAL. The last day in the clinic went really well and was taken out to lunch by the president and the team! I got a little present, a card and a certificate thanking me for my help and for all the equipment i brought over - and they also asked me to thank you guys as well for supporting me!. I have also been invited back next year! On Monday morning I headed to Tegus with Jen and stayed in a wicked B&B with an American couple who provides safe accommodation for foreigners. So my time working in Danli is coming to an end. It's been an amazing experience (mainly personal more than professional) and really don't want to head home yet even though I think my time in the rehab centre is coming to an end. Its very frustrating working with patients who desperately need help and realising i don’t have the knowledge or facilities to help them in the way i would like. This last week has been a pretty busy one. Have had lots of new patients but been great to see the same patients over a three week period. I often get given Platinos (soooo tasty fried in butter and syrup) or Rosquillos (little round biscuity things) as thanks for helping them. Hola - Que Pexi? Hope you're not getting bored with these blogs yet! Thanks for your comments its good to know some of you are reading them. So our weekend away was great. The journey there and back was a nightmare because it was 9 hours each way. A bus from here to Tegus, a taxi, another bus to La guama, another to La Pena Blanca and another to the hostel. So you can imagine we were hot, smelly, and hoped to god that the place we were staying at was good! The bus we took from Tegus to La Guama is called a Chicken Bus - i think because they squeeze as many of us in as possible. So i was in the rehab center doing some muscle tests on a patient - i told him i would give him a massage so he layed down and said hold on a minute and the proceeded to take a John Wayne stylie gun out from his trousers and lay it on the table!!! He said, "dont worry, i just use it for protection".... anyway! The weekend was such a lazy one! Great to zone out and just read and sit in the sun -behind the barbed wire, of course. Sunday night we headed into town to eat Pupusas (typical El Salvador dish) which are tortillas stuffed with cheese, pork, beans folded in half and then squashed. Untitled Untitled Hullo Feels like i've been here one month already! Things are good - the rehab clinic is really interesting and i hope they are learning a little from me. They are loving their new equipment and people are just SO amazed to see the swiss balls you cant get them off it. Work in the medical clinic is fine - not much to do. I go in every morning to take my dose of vitamins and touch wood had no problems as yet! The amount of parasites, diarrhea (?), malaria and Dengue here is crazy and the infant mortality is high due to such things. Very sad to see so many sick babies. The people here, in general, are very friendly but considering we are the only white people in the town we ... read more

Arrived in one piece - JUST! The drive from the airport was one of.... madness. The roads are just unreal : structurally (pot holes, no road marking) and the people that drive cars on them (overtaking on blind bends, 80 miles an hour round corners whilst in a torrential thunder storm etc etc). For those of you who told me this would be an adventure - you couldnt have been more right. Went to work in the rehab centre this morning and unfortunately i think i´m the most qualified there.... Its a really busy centre seeing about 80 - 100 patients a day (3 therapists) all with different problems (nerve damage, back pain, spina bifida, fractures, gun shot wounds, stroke patients, sore ankles etc etc). Hey Guys Finally arrived in Miami after a nice BA flight - popped a couple of Nanas valium and the time passed really quickly! This place is SOOOO cool and wish i had a few extra days to explore and head to the Everglades - anyway. Its steaming hot but raining like mad - they had about 1 foot of water in 15 minutes - so i had to buy myself a pair of flip flops just to wade across the road! Craziest thing so far is the amount of people here who don't speak english - i've heard more Spanish than English. And i've realised how bad my Spanish is..... Anyway off to eat my jumbo hotdog from Jerry's diner and heading out to an Irish pub tonight as been invited by fellow hostellers! ... read more
