We were up early to go to Hanauma bay to go snorkeling. We got free snorkel gear from the hostel and then caught the bus up to the bay. We had to wait in a bit of a line and then watch a safety video so you dont wreck any of the reef or disturb any of the marine life. We found a shady spot to sit and threw on some sunscreen and then walked down to the beach. It took us a while to get all our gear on and get it on right haha. The waves were really strong. Put our fins on and swam around a bit. I saw a couple of cool fishes including the state fish (Humuhumunukunukuapua’a) which I now know how to say. I was having trouble keeping water out ... read more

Finally dragged my butt out of bed around 8:30 am after that crazy night. I got dressed and then caught a bus over to diamond head. It’s a bit of a walk from the bus stop to the start of the actual hike. I paid my $1 entry fee into the park and then ate my breakfast. It was SO HOT on the hike. I was just drenched in sweat. It’s not a very hard hike, takes about 1.5 hours round trip. There are switchbacks all the way up the crater. You have to climb a ton of stairs and then go through a tunnel before climbing more stairs and then climbing up an army bunker. Finally at the top you can walk around a little area. The view is AMAZING though. You can see Waikiki ... read more

A new girl in our room from Vancouver decided to come with me to the Polynesian Culture Center today. Our bus came and picked us up at 10:30 am. We had the weirdest driver ever. She told us her whole life story and didnt stop talking the entire way up to the center (about an hour and a half). As soon as you walk into the centre they put a lei on you and then you get your picture taken with 2 polynesians. Of course getting the picture costs about $18!!! It was super hot out by the time we got there. Our first stop was to take a canoe trip to the other end of the park. We had a Fijian driver and he was really funny. Lots of cool things to see from the ... read more

An early pick up of 8:15am for my tour this morning. I hopped on a huge motor coach bus that went all around Waikiki picking up other passengers. Finally we were on our way. Our bus driver's name was Ileo which we learnt meant Dog in english haha. But we all just called him Leo. Super funny Hawaiian guy. He had a ton of jokes and stories that were actually funny. Our first stop was to overlook Hanauma Bay. This is were some good snorkeling is but big lineups to get in as it's a conservation area. Next up was Halona Blowhole which is just a bunch of rocks where the water comes in and it blows out a hole in the rock. Pretty cool but nothing spectacular. Then we drove all the way up to ... read more

This morning I booked a couple of tours for Thursday and Friday. Doing a Grand Island Circle Tour on Thurs and the Polynesian Cultural Center with a luau and show on Friday. Super excited for that. After that I hopped on a bus to Pearl Harbor. It's about an hour away by bus and I got there at 9:15am and already there were lots of people around. You have to go and pick up a ticket to tell you what time your tour will start. I had to wait about a half an hour for my tour. They have a gift shop and a small museum there so I walked around and had a look. The first part of the tour you watch a 23 minute video about the day of the attacks. Dec 7, 1941. ... read more

I made it to Hawaii!!!! I did not sleep at all last night, I tried...but I WAS TOO EXCIED TO SLEEP. I managed to get my room as clean as I could, packed up as much as I could and saw my brother and Lisa one last time. We had dinner at their place and it was delicious!!!! So off to the airport at 4:30am I went. Said bye to mom and dad before going into US customs. I wasnt as emotional this time as I was leaving for Ireland haha. The line up for customs was pretty ridiculous but it didnt take me long really to go through. When going through security apparently something in my carry on bag looked suspicious so it got searched, everything came out. They decided that it was my cord ... read more

My parents and I headed down to Globalfest at Elliston Park to watch Canada put on a wicked fireworks display. There are all kinds of cultural pavilions set up and everything for a bunch of different countries. We saw Brazilian dancers, Ukranian dancers, native dancers and some bollywood. It was cool. We ate some Indian food and Filipino food, yum yum!!! Canada put on a great display of fireworks after we all stood and sang the national anthem haha. Enjoy all the pics and videos!!... read more

After a couple of hours of decorating in the sunshine and then a stupid rain shower I was ready for family to come over for a backyard bbq to say goodbye to me. It was a really great time and some relatives all the way from Saskatchewan were able to make it for my party! The theme was obviously Hawaii, NZ and OZ inspired. I had an inflatable palm tree up as well as an 8 foot tall hanging palm tree up. It was big potluck deal so everyone brought food inspired from those 3 countries. The food was AMAZING!!! We had some watermelon and feta, bacon wrapped pineapple, Aaron's "shrimp on a barbie" skewers, an amazing salad with pineapple and macadamia nuts, an aussie rice salad, a hawaiin pizza, lamb meat pie, cheesy potatoes, ham, ... read more
