This trip has been years in the making, so as long as Ug doesn't mess things up, it should be a pretty good time.

All of Argentina South America » Argentina » Iguazu Falls By Kon Bros April 3rd 2007 Scott and RobWe left Uyuni on an overnight bus and crossed the border into Argentina first thing the next morning. There were some Columbians at the border crossing with us that were given a much harder time by customs. In total, it was a 20 hour bus ride before we reached Salta, in northwestern Argentina. The difference in road quality, after crossing into Argentina, was immediately noticable. We partied one night in Salta and then continued east to Iguazu Falls, on the border with Brazil. We had left he Andes and returned to the jungle. Away with t... read more

Salty Game South America » Bolivia » Uyuni » Salar de Uyuni By Kon Bros March 29th 2007 Scott and Rob We arrived in Uyuni late, but still managed to set up a tour of the salt flats for the next morning. We were still travelling with our other Yukon friends, but this was to be our last joint endeavour before parting ways. The five of us spent three days off-roading on the flats and the nearby national park. The scenery was amazing and sometimes other-worldly (this is where they would have filmed the staged moon landing). We loved the salt plains themselves as well as the ... read more

Highest City in the World South America » Bolivia » Potosi By Kon Bros March 26th 2007 Scott and RobWe headed southeast from Sucre and up to Potosi, the highest city in the world. We bunked on the top floor of the Koala Den, which offered good views of the city, and we chilled out here for a couple days. We toured an active silver mine where we crawled down as far as the third level. Working conditions were less than ideal (huge understatement) and we met miners as young as 14. Highlight: blowing up some dynamite - some inspiration to stake a claim and get a blasting permit back home!... read more

The White City South America » Bolivia » Sucre By Kon Bros March 19th 2007 Scott and RobWe headed south from La Paz to Sucre. The plan was to spend two or three days here, but it ended up being the city we could not leave: we stayed a week. This was our favourite spot in Bolivia and one of the most beautiful cities we visited. We did a one day bike trip that included a stop at the dino tracks, lunch at a little resort and an afternoon of jumping waterfalls. Great day. Most of the rest of the time we were playing poker and kickin back.... read more

Cordilla Real South America » Bolivia » Huayna Potosi By Kon Bros March 15th 2007 Scott and Rob We got a little behind here, so this entry dates back a while. Our last days in the La Paz area we spent hiking with our other Yukon friends in the Cordilla Real. We reached altitudes of over 5000m and experienced our first really cold temperatures in South America. The ol' tent got broken out again, and we spent our time hiking glaciers and neanderthal bowling. Some of the scenery was amazing. We took no map and had no guide, which ended in us getting off course twice and eventually heading back to La Paz a day early (accidentally). The good... read more

Death Road and La Paz South America » Bolivia » La Paz » World s Most Dangerous Road Coroico By Kon Bros March 10th 2007 Scott and RobFrom Copacabana it was La Paz. We tackled the Death Road on our second day in La Paz and spent time kickin it with the A-Team and fellow Yukoners; there were eight of us in the same hostel! We were in La Paz for about a week before a trek into the Cordilla Real. That one's next.... read more

Lake Titicaca South America » Bolivia » Copacabana By Kon Bros March 10th 2007 Scott and RobFrom Cuzco, we headed south to Puno, our last stop in Peru. We were in Puno a couple days, one of which we toured the Peru side of Lake Titicaca. On the world's highest navigable lake we visited floating islands and the island of Taquile. We crossed the border (finally) and spent a couple days in Copacabana, from where we visited Isla del la Sol on the Bolivian side of the lake. We met up with a crew, dubbed the 'A-team,' which consisted of two Californians, a Bristish couple and a sole PEIer. We kicked it with this crew on further into Bolivia.... read more

Between the jungle and Machu Picchu, we called Hostal Resbalosa home for about a week. For some of you (Pops!) this is probably the most anticipated entry and we snapped some good shots, though far from unique. Here's the M.P. story: We decided after the pricey train ride that we would try and sneak into South America's largest tourist attraction. Up at 3am in Aguas Calientes, downing a couple slices of bread each and donning garbage bags to shield the rain, we set out with only the moonlight to guide us to our destination. We made it past the first few guarded posts undetected, but got busted at the only bridge crossing over the wild white (actually brown) water separating us from Machu Picchu. We set back to town, defeated and, now locked out of ... read more

This here is a little tribute from our four day trek into the Amazon. The jungle was a ten hour drive from Cuzco on a narrow, cliffside mountain road with nasty switchbacks and sickening drops. The first night we spent in the jungle town of, Pilocopata. Just before Pilocopata is a little town, Patria, which is one of the largest producers of cocaine in Peru. Peru supplies the world with 30% of it's cocaine, second only to Columbia. The following day, out of the van at Atalaya and into a thirty-foot river boat for another three hours down river and away from civilization. We tented two nights on a platform built to keep the snakes out of your sleeping bag. To follow were bats, spiders, monkeys, and night treks into the Amazon, wading chest deep, with ... read more

We were in Arequipa three days, with a two day tour of the Colca Canyon somewhere in the middle, for a total of five days in the very south of Peru. The Colca had some amazing vistas of terraced hillsides from pre-Inca times, though the tour reminded me too much of the good ol' Holland America cattle drives. Rob was overcoming his sore throat and made the trek, while Maz stayed behind in Arequipa with a troublesome burst ear drum. The canyon was definitely the most beautiful place we've seen yet in Peru. All the Colca villages' names have second meanings. We stayed in Chivay, which means 'Place where people like to make love.' There were other, more erotic names that we'll withhold for the time being. We also got to dip in a hot springs ... read more
