As I said in the last blog our time as volunteers was coming to end. By this time the two girl volunteers had also left. We decided to leave for two weeks and visit some places in Nepal. Just to back track a new child arrived just as we went to Chitwan. He was adoreable, but a meance! The face of angel but the temperment of a pit-bull. And an evil one at that. He was only 4 years old so that meant that we had to take it in turns collecting him from school at mid-day. He took alot of occupying! Anyways so we planned to go to Pokhara to see some mountains. When we got there it was dark so didn't get a chance to see them. However the next day, (thanks to some ... read more

So we decided to make the wise choice and fly to Kathmandu, after a week in hospital I did not fancy a 20 hour bus train bus bus ride to get here! We arrived just before Christmas and had a rather uneventful couple of first days. The most important thing to mention here is that Nepal eats buff. Buffalo. Yes the closest you can get to a cow in these parts. And maaaaan was it good. Our first steak in over 2 months tasted like a slab of heaven. We thought we'd treat ourselves for the festive season and booked into a room with a bath. And hot water to go in it! Luxury!! We also spotted our first Christmas tree which was very exciting as we hadn't seen a peep of Christmas thus far. Unlike ... read more

A long while since my last blog. Alot and a little has happened since then!! First off we left the chilly heights of the mountains and made our way back to Delhi. We made a visit to the 'Zoo' to pass the time. Now being in India the 'Zoo' is not much more than a park with cages, these cages more often than not being empty, full of rats or unlabelled so that no-one has the foggiest what the animal inside is. We did get to see some Tigers and Lions and other awe-inspiring animals (even if their habitat had a lot to be desired for). Onwards from here to Khajuraho. This quaint little town is home to some rather erotic sculptures, namely the 'Karma Sutra' temples. Very imaginative I give them that!! We spent a ... read more

Well as the title may suggest, we haven't done much this passed week or so. Which has been bliss! McLeod is up in the Mountains and Jesus it was cold when we got here. As we've been used to roasting in every other place we've been it was a shock to the system. Luckily I over packed and brought thermals and longjohns! Came in handy. The first full day we had was taken up by a long lay-in, lunch, Ciarans first massage (which was hilarious. I could hear him in the next room explaining to the man that was about to get him to get his kit off that this was in fact his first time. I was almost surprised he didn't ask him to be gentle too...) For the next few days we ate, I ... read more

So now that the group had disbanded. Leaving me to deal with Ciaran single handedly (poor guy). We headed out for dinner and beer and then for some internetting. Ready to leave for the train station at 9pm so to be early and not miss the train. 9 pm came I made a quick dash to the loo, train toilets arent the best. Came back Ciarans gone. 'But where?' I ask the man. Back to the internet, I stomp off down the road, it's now 9.05 and i dont like being late!! Ciaran is trying to skype his dad, no answer on skype, try again, still no answer. I march off to get both our bags and to nudge him to hurry the f*ck up. 9.15 no answer. So Ciaran rings his mobile he's not even ... read more

Right so we left Jaipur and headed on up to Agra on a daytime train. When we arrived in Agra there was a slight chill in the air. Definatley not what we have been used to so far! We arrived at Shajahan guest house to get some rooms. Ciaran scouted these out (a mans quick glance over). I shoved my bag in so i could book our train tickets to the next place, however.. On arriving back to the room we discovered that there was no toilet seat, not nice but manageable and a hole where the window once was. Now lizards I don't mind, they can pop in to visit all they want. Its the mozzys that really get on my tits as they like to ignore Ciaran totally and feast on me. Back we ... read more

Thankfully we left Indore and arrived about 10pm in Jodhpur. This kid found Ciaran in the street and took us to a really nice and cheap hotel with, wait for it.......hot water!!! Yay!! We popped up to their restaurant only to find the most amazing view of the Mehrangarh Fort. Beautiful. The next day we headed to a castle on the hill where the currentMaharaja lives. Then trundled along to the market by the clock tower which was pretty good too. To the avail of the shop keepers 'No we don't want any fucking spices!' I have no idea what we done in the evening as it feels so long ago!! We did at some point decide to do a Camel safari, not one of Ciaran's ideas. We went for the jeep option as we couldn't ... read more

We arrived in Jalgaon after a comfy 20 hour train ride. Not much sleep but apart from that it was quiet boring!! Jalgaon is a crap heap. Not alot more to say apart from that. We did however find a nice hotel that was reasonable next to the train station. Luckily we where only using the city as a stop gap for the Ellora and Ajanta Caves. Luckily!! After checking in we consulted the Lonely Planet for somewhere tasty to eat, also our hotel manager recommended a place called Hotel Ayra. So off we trudged very tired to order some more cheese as a substitute to meat. No service after 15 mins and I went to go get some menus, which looked about as old as the original gospels of the bible. Must be popular I ... read more

Hampi seems like weeks ago, time is really weird out here. We left Goa to get an early morning train to Hampi. We literally had no idea how to catch this train, so we trekked up and down the platforms asking people and looking for other travellers. My first experience of Delhi Belly was about to kick in so with half an hour to wait, no toilets and no clue where to stand I was not in best spirits. And then the train got delayed. Anyways after seriously contemplating the tracks as ways to relieve myself from the agony the train arrived yay!! The journey was uneventful. Trains are great though all day you just get people wandering up and down selling tea and food! We got to Hospet and claimed two rickshaws to get us ... read more
