We've finally made it to Sydney! A few hours delay in Melbourne and we're now here. So, Sydney, beautiful Sydney is just so. . . . . . EXPENSIVE!!!! Chris and I are paying roughly $40 EACH to stay in a flippin' HOSTEL! - and that was one of the cheaper, grotty, ones we could find - we did look at the dorm options, but could not find any with another girl in to make me feel a little more comfortable?! We stayed in Sydney for 4 nights. After settling in, we enjoyed our first day in Sydney, we went to [View Full Entry]

We arrived in Singapore by bus, wandered cautiously through the strict border control and made it through customs without losing our 50 pirate DVDs, Caroline's bag of medication and a few huge half empty duty-free size bottles of alcohol. We made our way to the 'Little India' part of the city - mainly because it's the most easy on the wallet place to stay. It also allowed us to dig into some delicious Indian food again. For the rest of the first day we had a quick look round the surrounding areas. The following day we headed out into the city, [View Full Entry]

We're back-dating a little now, (time has flown by since New Year)... So we left Kuala Lumpur - our plans of going to Borneo to trek amongst the orangutans didn't take shape. Flights were fully booked. So where to go? We had a week before our flight out of Singapore and we were sure we didn't want to go straight there. So it seemed a good idea to take a stop in Melaka - roughly half way between KL and Singapore. There's really not much to say. We planned on staying a couple of nights and stayed 4. It was a [View Full Entry]

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We arrived in Kuala Lumpur after missing our stop on the bus - the driver did not take the liberty to tell us this was our stop -and so decided to drop us off randomly on a public highway and told us to wait for a bus going back to Kuala Lumpur. Cheers mate. Anyway, we made it to KL! Hooray! Got a taxi to our, infact, rather LUSH hotel, The Renaissance Hotel - the best hotel in KL, in Malaysia and maybe in the world!!!!! Oh, yes. And 5 star it was. It was so luxurious and [View Full Entry]

So we planned along while ago that Penang would be where we'd spent Christmas Day - one of the few dates where we actually had an idea of what we were doing. Having been there once before, about 10 or so years ago I wasn't exactly sure what to expect and although I was sure it would have changed. And it had so much. There were huge hotels and shopping malls everywhere. It was quite a sight sailing into the ferry terminal at night as the coast was illuminated by the rows of tall buildings. We moved round the north coast [View Full Entry]

CHEERS!
OUR Christmas Tree
Father Christmas came!

We arrived in Langkawi on the 19th December and dumped our bags in a bar. . . we were both immediatley inviited to sit down for an ice cold beer with a group of english people who have been living on the island for about 10 years. Chris downed one and went off to find a guesthouse, getting darker, and harder to find a place to stay. He found a great homestay place, owned by a Japanese lady and an Iranian guy, it really was like staying in a home, really friendly people, more free beer was drunk on our first [View Full Entry]

KRABI: Our first stop on the east coast was Krabi. We decided to make our base in Krabi Town, partly due to the cost but mainly because we arrived late after a terrible boat+bus journey. We left Ko Phangan on the earliest boat to give ourselves the best chance of finding somewhere to stay. What we didn't allow for was the bus from the jetty dropping us off at a temple (not bus station), two pick-up truck transfers, waiting in a cafe for two hours, then waiting on the bus for two hours at a stand still (with the engine running!), [View Full Entry]

So we failed in our attempts to explore Vietnam. Apparently the Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) no longer offered visas on the same day - starting from the very day we decided to try get one, and we decided a 5 day wait was too long given that we were already pushed for time. So we booked ourselves on to the next flight back to Bangkok and spent a couple of nights settling back in there. I even managed to bump into a couple of cheerful Thurston Upper Schoolers, Rory Fox & Marcus Brown and we spent an evening sharing [View Full Entry]

We really should have got the hang of this booking tickets in advance thing by now, but no. So instead of heading North from Bangkok and do some trekking round by the hill tribes in North Thailand, we got on the bus and set off for Cambodia. After a long hot bus journey, plenty of arguing with dodgy immigration officials at the border and a 6 hour taxi ride with a German couple we had arrived in Siem Reap. The place was really busy, full of tourists and a complete contrast to the incredibly poor looking places we'd passed along the [View Full Entry]
