Fabienne

I'm 24 years old and from Switzerland. I've already spent quite a bit of time abroad. I've studied in various countries for four years and have also done quite a bit of traveling. This time however I am going to be on the road for four and a half months (part 1 of my trip) and it's my first time as a bag packer. I really don't know what to expect but I'm definitely up for the new experiences and challenges to come. Through this travel blog I want to give you the possibility to read about my adventures 😊

28.09.2009 You've got to be spontaneous I spontaneously booked a trip to Bahrain, an island in the Middle East. By spontaneous I mean coming home on Saturday night, looking up flights and writing to my friend Saad, who was my next door neighbour during our studies in Newcastle. I wrote the following e-mail to him "It's probably just a stupid idea and I'm probably not going to come but just in case I wake up tomorrow morning and feel like packing my bags... what are your plans next week?" He replied that he would have time, that I should book my flight and let him know when I'll arrive. We spent Sunday e-mailing each other and finding the proper flight for me, which I booked on Sunday evening to be leaving on Monday night. So here ... read more

Travel blog Hi Guys I know I haven't been writing in ages. And this time I don't even have an excuse like limited Internet access or whatever. Truth be told, I've been quite busy and when I wasn't I simply didn't feel like writing. Though I've completed part one of my "world trip" about three months ago, I still want to write about it. I hope you're still interested in my adventures. Not sure when I'll do part two of my trip. As for now, the plan is to stay in Switzerland, but more to that later. I finally got my new laptop last week (more to that later as well) and therefore got easy access to my photos again and I feel like continuing my travel blog project. Enjoy reading! 31.03.2008 New day, new luck?! Since I couldn't leave for the South of Thailand yesterday, I had yet another day to kill. Fortunately Fabian offered to keep me company in the afternoon. We didn't really do much. We just went to Baan Sabai to have a drink and chat for a while before it was time for me to get my luggage and be on my way to the Southern Bus Terminal in the evening. I felt pretty confident this time, since I already knew my way and what local bus numbers to take. It took me a while to find my VIP bus at the Southern Bus Terminal but all in all it went pretty smooth. When I got onto the bus I was thrilled by the luxury. I didn't know that VIP really meant ... read more

30.03.2008 Meeting Karl...or not! I found out that the best way to get down to the island where I was supposed to meet Karl was by night bus. Yesterday while on tour with Fabian I kept calling all sorts of numbers I had in order to make a reservation but no luck. Fabian said that I can just go to the bus station in the evening and buy my ticket on site. Since I had not much to do, I decided to go to the hair dresser this morning. It's been ages since my last haircut and K told me that my hair looks shit so action needed to be taken. First they shampooed my hair, rinsed it off, shampooed it again and then I got a wonderful head massage. After the conditioner the young woman ... read more

29.03.2008 China Town and Jim Thompson Museum Fabian and I met in Khao San Road at 10 a.m. The day was unbearably hot. I was glad that we could take the boat downtown and enjoy a nice breeze and be splashed by water every now and then rather than being stuck in traffic in a muggy bus. Our first target of the day was China Town. We walked up and down the narrow streets and due to the heat I really wished they were a bit wider. The heat seemed to be caught between the alleys. At some point we went to have breakfast and then we were looking for a post office so Fabian could finally send off his post cards he had written weeks ago. It was interesting to have a look at the ... read more

28.03.2008 Karl Ok, here's the story of Karl. Karl and I met at a hostel in Los Angeles in October 2007 where we happened to share a room. What an idiot! I thought. After he had moved into our room I did not think much of him and certainly didn't mind that I was way too busy to see much of him anyway. It wasn't until my last day when his charm hit me. Oh and what a charmer he is... He talked me into having breakfast with him. That's also where we found out that we would be in Thailand around the same time. We exchanged e-mail addresses and spent the rest of the day together with friends of mine. During the past five months we exchanged a lot of e-mails and got to know ... read more

Khao Yai National Park We were woken up at 7 am. We jumped into the shower and had a tea for breakfast before getting onto the truck. We only drove a few minutes into the park before we stopped at the visitors centre where we got leech socks, totally sexy - not!!! In the centre we could have a look at stuffed crocodiles and maps of the park as well as read information boards. Most of us bought a rain coat because it had been dripping on the ride to the park but fortunately it would remain dry for the rest of the day. We went on a short walk and spotted a Gibbon (monkey). After the visitors centre we continued to drive into the rainforest for another few minutes. I can't really say, for I ... read more

26.03.2008 Khao Yai National Park I hadn't planned to travel with Fabian. But since we had a really good time at our first meeting I had called him on Monday to find out if he was interested in joining me for the next trip. He was up for it and promised to call back as soon as he knew when he'd be off work. He returned my call last night and told me that he'd be off the following two days. Because I didn't expect him to be off that soon I hadn't thought about what to do. I grabbed my guide book and had a look at the map. Since we only had two days for our trip I suggested we go to Khao Yai National Park which is only two hours north-eastern of Bangkok. ... read more

House blessing K's mom got up at 5 am. I decided to ignore it and go back to sleep until someone would ask me to get my ass out of bed - which was unfortunately only one hour later ;) I got up and had a shower. Compared to what I had experienced during the past three weeks, this bathroom and shower were pure luxury. I enjoyed every second I spent underneath this warm water shower. I wanted to help with the final preparations but no one had anything for me to do and I was told to sit on the couch and wait. I had no idea what this house blessing ceremony was going to look like so I just sat on the veranda and watched the others eagerly preparing the buffet and other things. ... read more
