In this one blog you can see photos from the day of crossing Bolivian-Argentinian border, through Salta to famous for its wines - Mendoza. in a nutshell: From Tupiza (in Bolivia) we took a bus to Villazon (on the border with Argentina) where we crossed the border. Then we caught an overnight bus from La Quiaca (Argentina) to Salta. What struck us when we got off at the bus terminal in Salta was the totally different (to Bolivia) world. it was literally WOW with a mouth wide open. We so got used to Bolivia, lack of paved roads, just about to [View Full Entry]

Some photos from a 3day tour to the south-west part of Bolivia, i.e. Bolivian altiplano. I cannot find words to describe how stunning and diverse all those places were...... check out the link: http://atacamaphoto.com/bolivia/bolivia-1.htm there are some AMAZING photos from the Bolivian altiplano (i don´t think mine do justice) (I have hundreds photos from the trip, will try to keep on adding.....) I agreed with Kris (English guy i had met in Lima, then again in Cusco and La Paz - who is travelling round the world too) that we would do the tour from Uyuni together. Luckily Aoifa t [View Full Entry]

Our journey from La Paz to Sucre (official capital) that was supposed to take 12 hours took 27 hours!!!!There were road blocks half way and the bus got held up in the middle of nowhere for many many hours...that was a real (Bolivian) experience!craving for decent meal (inhabitants from a nearby village took advantage of the blockade and people´s empty stomachs but all they were selling was biscuits, cheese, pastries, fruit, beans and loads of icecream) we could do nothing but wait, wait, wait....and when we finally got green light our cheering didn´t last long. After a few kilometers there was [View Full Entry]

Death road - bike ride
With Treasa and James in La Cumbre - 4700 above sea level, just before setting off down the so called: the world´s most dangerous road
In La Paz I met Treasa and James, an Irish couple that I already knew from Puno. I decided to join them for the 64km bike ride from La Cumbre (4700m) to Coroico (1755m) - on the most dangerous road in the world. It was downhill and of course speeding was the most fun.... crazy cyclists do get killed there! (you can find some detailed description on Treasa's and James' blog, see entry no 18 The death road & the world´s highest capital) http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/treasaor/round_the_world/1178466180/tpod.html La Paz - is awfully polluted and because of the high altitude [View Full Entry]

from the Condor´s hill in Puno (4100m above the sea level) oh, i could feel my poor lungs when climbing up those 618 stairs
I spent 7 days by the lake/on the lake. From Arequipa I went straight to Puno with Jason and Ash, my Australian travelling companions. The following day we went on a tour to a few islands. Uros islands are remarkable - they are man-made, floating islands on the lake, inhabited by 2000 people. But they mainly live off tourists nowadays. We also visited Taquile and Amantani islands (not floating though) where we stayed for one night with one local family. This was a great experience! From Puno I got through the border to a lovely Bolivian town Copacabana. I arrived on [View Full Entry]

In order to get to Machu Picchu I chose 76km long Salkantay trek - an alternative trek to the classic Inka trail. The agency which I booked the trek with wasn't one of the best ones but thanks to the bunch of people I was trekking with I had a fantastic time throughout those 5 days. Our group was pretty diverse which made the whole experience even more interesting (1 American, Swedish couple, 1 Swiss, 2 French, 2 Aussies, 2 Argentinians, 1 Peruvian, 3 Germans plus Henry and Miguel - our guides and Carlos - cooking devine food). Carlos was supposed [View Full Entry]

just before our first ride. We took 4x4 from Huacachina to get to the best spots.
I was not travelling solo for long, i met Laura at the bus terminal in Lima. Together we got to a little town/oasis called Huacachina (it´s next to Ica) where a couple of her friends had already been waiting for her. Huacachina is the best place to do sandboaring, and what a sunset! The following day we headed to Nasca - 4 hour bus ride. I truly hated those 30 minutes on the tiny plane..... [View Full Entry]

this is first photo taken with my new toy (hope it will last...)
Karolina, my travelling companion, took a flight back home on Monday 23rd July. It is the end of her journey, end of her holidays. I will truly miss her.................................... We spent the last three days in Lima, staying in a hostel in Miraflores. Far away from central Lima but much much safer. Again (i don´t know whether we have been so lucky or whether people in Sth America have fiestas that often) we happened to be there on a day when there was a celebration, pre- independence day that will be held on 28 and 29 this month. We watched a [View Full Entry]

We flew into Manaus on 8th July (from Belem - city at the gateway to the Amazon). Hmmm, in a nutshell Manaus ( approx 1,7 million citizens)is the ugliest city i have ever seen. It seems that the whole place is a massive market where people sell just everything. We knew it would only be our stopover on the way to the real Amazon. Today we came back to Manaus from a 3-day joungle trip into the Amazon!!!!it was awesome! What we did: we were taken to a pretty remote place in the jungle where, on the first day, we went [View Full Entry]
