3girls - 3girls...on a study adventure in USA

We (Anna-Pauline, Claudia and Urska) are students on two schools (DNS and PTG/DAgskole) in Tvind. We decided to organise a six week study travel in USA. Our aim is to learn about modern pedagogy and American culture and society.
Our aim is to visit various schools, research centers and other institutions.
We will travel from Chicago along the east coast to Orladno. During this time we will use public transportations and hitchhike. We will be sleeping in cheap accomodation, hospitality club, coach surfing and good people that we meet on the road.
We are planning to learn a lot from our experiences and have a good time with people living in USA.

Happy thanksgiving party! North America » United States » District of Columbia » Washington

We started the day early with a nice breakfast. While enjoying Sajis hospitality we made plans the party. We (Anna, Claudia and Urska) started to make a decoration for the whole house and we shopped some pies. Guests started coming in the early afternoon and started cooking and preparing the dinner. The ones that came later brought ready made stuff. Each guest had a task to fullfill, like bringing a salat, turkey, water pipe, potato, cranberry souce, etc. The party was couchsurfing gathering so we were very multicultural group. We were on the move again... In the morning we went to the Philadelphia bus station, where due to our tickets the bus should leave. After asking around and endless tries to call the bus company, we figured that we have been tricked and there will be no bus... nor did anyone at the station, neighter cabdrivers and street cleaners ever heard of that company. So after digesting, that we mostlikely lost the ticket with no refund we had to find a bus (train is too expensive) that would have 3 free seats two days before thanksgiving. Today we went in the morning the last time to Philly and we used the opportunity to see some things and do some stuff some people we met on way told us to do. We have seen many beautiful paintings on the houses, what Philadelphia is famous for and went to south philly to eat the cheesesteak everybody says we must try. 18th of november: We visited Planet Aid's clothes collection warehouse, where we got to know what happens with the collected pieces, from when they come in from the collectors until they go out the warehouse. We tried out ourselves by sorting Toys from shoes and clothes. 19th of november: We accompanied an action where the containers in town, got "updated" and checked if they are in good conditions and have all information written on and if the locks where the supposed ones. Philly from the car...

Today we took for the last time the train to New York City where from we took a bus to Philadelphia. Thanks to our host in Buffalo we had tickets for 1USD each, so we did not need to border about hitchhiking specially after our last experience with hitchhiking in the metropolitan area, we were happy to have a bus. Today we bought a day-ticket for the NY-Subway and went first to Bronx to drink a coffee and have a walk along the zoo park. Afterwards we went to Queens and in the end to Brooklyn. Today we spend the whole day in Central Park until sunset. There were so many things, so it is hard to tell what was the most impressive, street theatre, roller skaters, musicians of all kinds, sports.... Today we went to New York, Manhattan, where we had a telephone session in order to make agreements with the Projects we wanted to visit. Unfortunately nobody could give us a time. Some said we it should be ok, but we need to call another office, where we only reached the answering machines :( So we walked around the city and found rather cheap tickets for a broadway show (Phantom of the Opera). We decided to take the extra day we got due to the car rental yesterday to walk around the area we are living to find an internet cafe and a bookshop to buy a map. We failed in both. The bookstores that have been in that area have been closed we were told. All what people could tell us would have been like 6-7 miles away and only reachable by car.
