Ahhh... I know I know crazy people... it's been a while since I updated this thing. Internet here is expensive, so I won't write much. I am having a GREAT time here on the island. I spent three days in Koh Tao and didn't even dive! There is so much to do there... I wish I had more time! Then a couple of days ago I landed in Koh Phangan, met some great people at my bungalow and have been partying ever since! The full moon party is tonight, and we have a good group of like 20 people so tonight should be legendary (to say the least)! Re. the "traveling alone" part.... I LOVE IT! It is soo easy to meet people and I pretty much can do whatever I feel like at the time. ... read more

It's hard to write about such an amazing day in one's life but I'll give it a whirl and hopefully for those of you who weren't there you will get a feel for just how amazing it truly was. It started out with Stu and I waking up next to each other, the last time as single people, both very excited about the journey that lay ahead. After a relaxed breakfast and swim, we parted ways about lunchtime with me going up to Ma and Pa's room and Stu staying at ours to get ready. As part of the package we bought, my hair and make-up lady arrived about 2.30pm to start the beauty process and we were done about 4.30pm (yes it takes a while!). The nerves didn't really set in until I put my ... read more

On the first day at Krabi (4th June), my husband and I were brought to Tiger Cave temple in a city tour. I was fascinated with Tiger Cave temple and its surrounding. Tee, our tourguide, told us that this temple was founded by an Abbot many years ago. It was named as such because of a tiger he saw when he arrived at the cave. The cave has now become part of the temple. We soon realised that the surrounding of the place was very quiet and there were a few smaller caves filled with stalactites and stalagmites at the back of the temple. This place was really ideal for anyone to do his/her meditation. We went snorkelling today (5th June). It was my first attempt at this sea-sport but I was nearly drowned. When my ... read more

I now know how people can plan to stay on the islands for two days and end up staying for years. It's weird, time feels like it truly stops while you are there, everyday is just as fun as the last. I really didn't want to leave but my Visa was starting to run short, so I figured I better leave or I might end up spending my whole trip on the Islands. Also I am gong to try and make sure I have some extra time at the end of my trip to head back down there. I hoped on a boat at 2:30 in the afternoon and got into a small town called Champong where i had to wait 2.5 hours for the bus to pick me up. So far on the trip ... read more

All good things must come to an end - we reluctantly prepare to leave Koh Tao and head north to Chiang Mai for the final stint of our travels in Thailand. The thought of swapping beach life for city life is not particularly attractive when we recall the heat and intensity of Bangkok compared to the sea breezes and relaxed atmosphere of the islands. Despite this we say our goodbyes, head to the port (seasick tablets in hand!) and catch the boat back to Samui for onward travel to Chiang Mai. The thought of another “VIP” bus trip to Bangkok leaves us cold so we decide to blow the budget and book flights from Samui to Bangkok and then on to Chiang Mai - hardened travellers we are not! We spent a night at Big Buddha ... read more

At 9am on Tuesday morning we are picked up by Rumg and Tuktuk(!), our trekking guides, and meet our fellow trekkies - we’re a cosmopolitan mix of Scottish, American, Portuguese, French, Danish and English. After a brief stop at the market to collect supplies (mozzie spray in particular) we head for the hills in the back of a pick up truck. First stop elephant trekking, and armed with a big bunch of bananas (we want to keep the elephant on side) we climb aboard nellie and head off road. Nellie seemed to appreciate the constant flow of bananas and rewarded us by not spraying us with water - some of our fellow trekkies were not so lucky! After a hearty meal of fruit and vegetable fried rice in one of the villages in the hills we ... read more

Day 6 - Chiang Mai (I think its day 6, I'm losing track of the days a bit but that is the beauty of being away) I have nearly been here a week now and I'm getting used to the whole travelling on your own experience - it's easy to meet people as long as you make the effort. I only spent 3 full days in Bangkok and after that I just couldn't take any more of the pollution and noise. I had seen what I really wanted to see - namely Pat Pong and a Thai boxing match and so I decided to try and book a train ticket north to Chiang Mai. But there was a big problem because the railway lines and the roads were flooded so the only way to get there ... read more

No a dnes som si chcel dat nejake maso na trhu a ... read more

I can't believe it is almost ten years to the day since I left Australia to go live in Canada for a year and here I am, fleeing the country once again. This morning went quite quickly with last minute packing & panicking on the agenda and after a quick stop to collect some photos, it was off to the airport. In typical Nicolle style we pushed the limits of time & ended up with only a few minutes for farewells before I boarded the plane. After transferring to the International terminal in Sydney, I had a couple of hours to sit around & contemplate what the next year has in store, before boarding a British Airways flight to Bangkok. The first hiccup came when I discovered that my sleeping bag had become detached from my ... read more

We got the boat to Ko Tao it took two hours to get there. When we got off the boat we came across a guest house that had air con, fridge and TV - Yes TV! For just 500 bht a night. First we checked out some bungalows on the beach but they were too similar to those on bottle beach - small, dark and dingy. So needless to say we went for the one with the TV much to Amy's delight. We had 40 channels, mostly thai but enough english ones to keep Amy happy. This is probably why we overstayed on this tiny island, we did'nt get up to musch apart from relaxing and watching a bit of TV. We found a mini golf course which also had free pool table which became one ... read more
