I am 29 year old female from Australia, preparing to embark on a solo 12 month world trip in search of new experiences. Visiting 28 countries in 5 continents, the bulk of my adventure will be with tour groups, however I am also spending 11 weeks volunteering in a childrens refuge.

Did lots of nothing on Sunday, as I'm still feeling crook & have begn antibiotics. Only ventured out during the day to get some lunch for Duncan & myself at the local shops. Dinner however wa a different story, as there was a pre-arranged group dinner to attend, so I self medicated, rugged up & went out for fun with fondue... Andy, Charlie & I had taken a bunch of bunny ears from a local chocolate store yesterday, so the whole group donned them to get into the Easter spirit. Diane, Tony, Charlie & I were seated together & shared a carnivore fondue, consisting of four different types of meat. Not much veg in sight, however the meat was delicious & a meal in itself. Fortunately, we had left just enough room for dessert & again, ... read more

Up early on Sunday for day trip to Moreno Glacier. Feeling sick from too much of a good time last night & managed to get a few more zzz's in on the bus drive there. Dropped off to walk to glacier - very scenic & probably helped to sweat out some alcohol. Ate lunch overlooking the glacier, then took a boatride right up to the face of it - just amazing. Even got to see it calve once or twice up close. Back at the hostel, had a quick and easy, heat 'n' eat spinach & ricotta canelloni meal for dinner. Finally had spare time, so sat on the couch all night & watched Rocky III & Desperado. Only a few hours drive on Monday to El Chalten. Headed into town once we'd settled into the ... read more

Had a boring bread with caramel sauce hostel brekkie, before departing Ushuaia at seven on Sunday morning. Drove back the same route we came in to the ferry terminal in Chile. The crossing was much rougher this time around & I felt very unsafe sitting on deck in the truck. So much so, I jumped out part way & went into the warm passenger area to watch the dolphins escort us across the channel. Continued driving until it was almost dark & we happened upon a random roadside refugio. It turned out to be possibly the most windy place in the world & only the couples bothered setting up tents, with the remainder of us dispersing between the squashy refugio & the truck. After the refugio filled, I opted for the truck, which in hindsight was ... read more

Had Bubble 'n' Squesk for breakfast on Sunday, before departing our noisy campsite. Fortunately I'm a relatively deep sleeper, however the trucks didn't stop driving by all night & did wake me up on a few occasions. Stopped at a checkpoint, where the guy took all our capsicums. We figured the wife had given him a shopping list & it was destined to be part of his dinner. Later on, another checkpoint guy took our slab of meat, meaning we had to rethink dinner plans. This guy obviously wanted the steak for himself & was not impressed when Tony dropped it on the ground & rolled it in the dirt. We were all cheering in the truck because they didn't really have any right to take it, but weren't going to let us through otherwise. Had ... read more

Went on a walking tour with some of the girls on Sunday. Was a little tired because I got in late last night & didn't get a great sleep. Kept waking up because Charlie hadn't come home, but got a message in the morning from reception that she was ok. Turns out she'd been out partying with the Kumuka truck & had gone back to their hostel. After checking out the waterfront, we found a market & restaurant area to wander about in. Shannon ran into some Americans she'd met at the hotel & we joined them for a few drinks, which turned into a long lunch. I tried some Sangria, which wasn't nearly as nice as what I'd had in Spain. For lunch, four of us ordered a platter of meat to share, which the ... read more

The truck left at five o'clock on Sunday morning, well before I was up for Church! We drove all day & arrived into Foz D Iguazu well after dark to a crappy buffet at the campsite, which looked like it had been sitting out for hours. So far, I don't think anybody on the truck is particularly impressed with Brazillian food. Because we arrived so late, it was beer o'clock straight after dinner & the campsite had arranged a salsa party beginning at eleven. I don't know why it was called a salsa party because it was all house & techno music playing & nobody was doing any salsa dancing. There was a truckload of Kumuka people wearing bikinis (even the boys) & lays, but that just made it look like a hawaiian themed party. The ... read more

Sunday was another long day with over nine hours of driving. We ended up staying in a hotel in Camo Grande, rather than rough camping, which was a welcome change in plan. Apparently though, it just means we have to rough camp one night when the itinerary has us down to stay in a hotel - oh well, you can't win them all. The cook group did a magnificent stew & unfortunately there wasn't enough for seconds. I spent three hours on the internet, for lack of anything better to do, by which time everybody else had gone to bed, so I followed suit. The last of three long driving days took us to our desination of the Pantanel on Monday. Our only delay was when we encountered a Budget truck (another overland company), stuck on ... read more

Awoke Sunday morning, after only a few hours of sleep with a deadly hangover. Managed to shower & get my gear packed without disturbing anybody else from the hostel. My underground journey to the airport was easy, just a reversal of the trip two days prior. Finding the right check in area was a little more challenging though, as my paperwork indicated terminal 'S', which didn't actually exist. Managed to get some directions & it's a good job I was running early, as I used up all of my time transitting terminals & queing in check in & immigration lines. I barely managed to eat some lunch before it was time to board the plane. Iberia fed us twice on the ten hour flight, both very average meals. I slept a while & watched a couple ... read more

The flight from Cairo departed a few hours late on Friday morning, however we managed to pick up some time on the way to spain. Touched down in Barcelona, where I farewelled Jan & Doug as they disembarked to contine the remainder of their honeymoon. After collecting more passengers & refuelling, we took off Madrid bound & arrived before daylight to a mere three degrees celcius weather outside. Unexpectedly, the airport was massive, there was an underground train to ferry passengers to another terminal where the luggage carousels were. I managed to change some travellers cheques & obtain a map of the underground system before collecting my backpack. The train station was at yet another terminal, so I boarded a bus & witnessed my first sunrise in Spain en route. Like London, Madrids underground system is ... read more

Last day of the trip, it´s come around all too quickly. Had the buffet breakfast at the hotel with the crew, then got a cab to City Stars Mall, the biggest mall in Cairo. Dad & I decided to go see the movie Blood Diamond & whilst waiting for our session to commence, went looking for the internet. Found a free service at the first coffee shop we entered & I ordered a hot chocolate with cream & caramel topping. It was just divine, but had enough calories to last a week; needless to say I didn´t have anything for lunch. The movie was great & afterwards we caught a cab back to the hotel & relaxed in the room until my ride to the airport arrived. It was sad to say goodbye to dad after ... read more
