They say bad things come in threes. We had three things in one day and thought our bad luck was over. Little did we know what was about to hit us the next day! Our time on Ko Lanta started out pretty perfectly. We’d heard from the locals when we arrived that it had done nothing but pour rain day and night for seven consecutive days prior to our arrival. You could see it in the roads. The normally sandy road leading down to the beach from the main paved road was covered in deep ruts, the type that suck flips flops into an untimely death. Maybe we brought the California sun with us, or maybe it’s because we bought umbrellas, but somehow it came sunny the very next day and stayed that way, minus a ... read more

It was Blair's birthday on the 28th on Phi Phi island. The day before we had a great day snorkeling and swimming but this day we decided to try and walk to the main beach on Phi Phi. One of the girls from our snorkeling trip had walked back from the main beach from our hotel and was told it should only take 20mins, but instead took her 2hrs as she got lost. So she warned us that there wasn't much signage but that it was possible if we took the right route to get to the other side. We started our walk up a very steep hill and found the track wasn't very defined and was very dense to walk through. Anyway we continued on up the steep hill, followed by a swarm of mosquitos ... read more

It was time to say goodbye to Railay beach and make our way to Phi Phi island....but not without difficulty. Everyone that had to leave the island had to wait by the beach for the ferry to arrive. We then got onto the longtail boats with all our luggage and then waited out at sea for the ferry to arrive. At times the lontail boat felt like it was going to tip over and we were going to loose al our luggage. But luckily we made it and we all got on to the ferry. We must have been one of the last boats left to get on as there were no more seats left on the ferry, so the rest of us had to sit down on the floor outside as you wouldn't want to ... read more

Railay Beach, what a mission to get to.....but totally worth it! We took a flight from Bangkok to Phuket, then took a 2hr car shuttle from Phuket airport to Ao Nang beach. Along the way we saw some unusual passengers in the truck next to us....two elephants, not something you see every day! From Ao Nang beach we climbed in a long tail boat on the beach with all our suitcases (where I fell over when I got in because the ladder flipped over when it went over a wave) and made our way in a tiny boat to Railay. Unfortunately it started raining just as we got to the beach, but we got into our room just before the downpour! We could have done the commute easier if we had a flight to Krabi-but flights ... read more

Sunday I had to say goodbye to the island today. It was rough. I woke up even earlier so I could get as much time by the water as possible. It still wasn’t enough. I still can’t get over how blue it is. We had our Western breakfast took some pictures and hit the road around 9am. Interesting fact: our drivers who picked us up from the airport and drove us 4 hours to Koh Chang stayed on the island for the weekend and drove us back to the airport today. I thought that was interesting (like I just said). Anyways, we headed back to the ferry and I honestly just stared at the water the whole time. I really didn’t want to leave. We stopped for lunch around 1:30 or so and had fish, rice, ... read more

Saturday Get ready because today was INSANE. I woke up around 6:30 because I needed to be on the beach. I went out to the water and sat on the lounge chairs. The sun was already up and warm. One of the workers came up to me and offered to get me coffee. On the beach. Paradise. I immediately called my mom to rub it in her face. She didn’t appreciate that. We ate breakfast around 7am and it was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in Chiang Mai or America. They had Western classics (waffles, crepes, omelets, etc) that I was immediately drawn to. After a couple of plates of food, we were ready to go SNORKELING! I had never been before so I was pretty nervous to learn how to breathe under water, but I ... read more

Friday January 19th: Hello everyone, Sorry that I haven't blogged in a while. There just hasn't been much time to write over the weekend. Friday morning we woke up at 5:15 am and had breakfast at 5:45 in order to pack our luggage and leave by 6:30. We got to Chiang Mai Airport 45 minutes before our flight was supposed to take off so we had some minor difficulties getting them to check-in our bags. We did find a way but I’m thinking this also made our flight take off 20 minutes late. The plane was going to be flying from Chiang Mai to Pattaya, South-Western Thailand. From there we had a 2.5 hour van ride to the ferry which would take us to the island of Koh Chang. After a stop for a snack (chips ... read more

Sawasdee Krab (that’s a polite “hello” in Thai language) from Phuket!!!! Several people advised us to stay on another less crowded, developed, and touristy island in Thailand than Phuket. We decided to go the convenient route and stay on Phuket anyway, with the idea of easier, direct travel on the peak and downward slope of our vacation, with a bit of adventure and more recreation and relaxation. Our experience of entering the airport on the island of Phuket, Thailand was a breath of fresh air and one of the easiest entries we’ve ever had when traveling from another country (in this case Cambodia), but we still had the impression that this was an expedited yet thorough arrival process rather than anything half-baked. I cherished the excitement I always have at the sound of the passport agent ... read more

We scored a pretty nice location on Chewang Noi beach. Got a bungalow about 30 feet from the beach and right next to the dining room. This is probably a 3 star resort mostly due to the location. It’s older but in good shape. The dining area and bar are on the sand. The warm pool a hundred feet away. The free breakfast is good. Lots of choices. Marie had to show them how to cook her eggs. After trying to explain it for 5 minutes To a blank stare She grabbed the spatula out of the cooks hand and did it herself. Then had to fight off a Russian guy that wanted his eggs that way. Of course nobody understood anybody else due to languages. I kept out of the way. Somebody coulda gotten hurt. ... read more
