So here we are, back on the hard stand. take two. We spend a month on the hard back in Two Rocks before we left, thinking we don't have to do this again for a couple of years. @ cocos we spotted some corrosion above the waterline on the starboard side, not good. We ditched the wind generator and found a wire earthing out on the frame of the solar panels. Inti out of the water - we have moved into a hotel room:( ! Damaged assessed and not bad at all , the only damage there is we already knew about. Could of been really bad under the water line. Since we got her out we may as well get some of the windows fixed, leaking a bit, mould is growing good here in the ... read more

As life begins to become normal, or whatever my new normal will be here on the island my intention is to shift this blog from a diary of events, as it's been in the past, to more notes on the cultural exchanges between the Phukers and the Farang "foreigner". Already in my first week I've experienced a lifetime of events. I've been to two unbelievable beaches, two new islands, bungee jumped, eaten things I wouldn't have even kicked into a gutter at home and witnessed a mugging, don't worry it wasn't me and no one was hurt and I'll get to it later. For the past week we've gotten a lot of "oh here comes the tourists" looks which I'm hoping will fade as Phukers realize we aren't going anywhere as our purchases have gone away ... read more

Turns out these two days were contrasts in every possible way. The Homestay was a four hour drive to a Muslim village, where we spent the afternoon and night in the extremely hospitable (and of course alcohol-free) company of a local family. The walking tour of the village was a real education - we saw bull-fighting bulls in their pens, ate delicious fruit straight off the tree - a kind of grapefruit but with a thick green outer shell, learnt about the Thai system of supporting small farmers in cooperatives, and most amazingly saw rubber collected straight from the tree in a plantation. Dinner was incredible. All home cooked, the group did the prepping, and group leader Alif was head chef. Every ingredient was prepared from fresh, including the base red curry sauce. The food was ... read more

Oct 25 2013 This was our first full day in Railay and got a little bit of a late start in the morning. We all headed out to grab some breakfast before Sam P. and I went out in search of the climbing guide book. The one that I had bought in the states was not the newest one published, so it was lacking a lot of routes. We were able to locate a guide book pretty easy and headed off to start climbing. We started on a wall called the 1 2 3 Wall located about a 10 minute walk from where we are staying. It is a fairly popular wall because of how easy the access is and the number of easier routes on the wall. We also found out shortly that this is ... read more

My day just got better and better after breakfast we chilled and headed to the beach. It was boiling today for a while anyway and then the storms set in again but it's not like at home it's still so warm and you don't mind being in the rain! We went in the sea and it was so nice. After a while we went back to our room to chill out and I got the most AMAZING bunch of flowers delivered from brad they are literally out of this world the most amazing bunch of flowers I've ever seen I feel like the luckiest girl in the world!!! We had a lovely relaxing afternoon and then got ready for dinner. I had bought a dress with me but girls being girls decided I didn't like it ... read more

Having heard many close friends share their experience going to the world famous Full Moon Party on Haad Rin Beach, Koh Phangan, Thailand we decided that it was about time to experience it for the first time. Since the demand for flights to Surat Thani was quite high as it often is before the Full Moon Party, we decided to fly into Hat Yai with Air Asia. From there we took a bus north up to Surat Thani. Prior to this trip, we anticipated that Surat Thani would be the typical bland connection city which serves frequent bus routes to the ocean piers serving Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Koh Tao among other places. Although it didn’t have major tourist attractions, it turned out to be a worthwhile stop and rather un-touristy in comparison to other ... read more

When we checked in the lady showd us to our room and said make sure your doors are shut because of the monkeys. I didn't know whether to take her seriously, then saw the same warning in the door, crazy right monkeys around your room! Well we didn't really think too much of it but both said we'd love to see one. We spoke too soon! We are sat watching a film and all of a sudden the doors in front of us slid open a bit....we both thought first it was the wind but I've got onto check and yup right in front of us a couple of feet away there's a monkey opening the doors to come into our room!!!! Luckily it seemed quite tame and I simply walked over to shut the door ... read more

We have finally left Phuket and arrived in the beautiful Krabi. We are still in agreement that Phuket was our least favourite place especially with us leaving brads credit card there!!! Luckily it was in the room and it's being sent to our hotel here so we had some luck someone was obviously watching over us :) We did have a nice evening last night though, we met Phil, Claire, Jim and Debbie. We had some cocktails in the hotel and then they treated us to dinner which was so lovely of them. It was good to see a face from home and just have a good old chat about everything and anything. They had been to Bangkok too and found it a culture shock like us, we are definitely so lucky to have what we ... read more
