Not a lot happening today or is it??? We had another awesome breakfast and met Mr Mow, our buffalo tour expert, confirmed our flight back? then showed us the best packages for what we wanted to see woohoo bring on James Bond Island and Fantasea and tiger kingdom for a great price. We are all seeing the first two. We walked along Patong Beach road and down Bangla road to the shopping centre. Loved the guys stopping us to ask us if we are Australians and then trying to get us to go to a motel for 90 mins so they get paid a certain amount of Baht based on the tickets we got and the money they make off them! But you must leave immediately to claim. No thank you. Bit of retail therapy, ride ... read more

Day 4 another awesome breakfast to start the day and then what was a quick trip to the Bangkok Airport and would you believe the guys had Macca’s! Also Steve supersized his. Flight was great and then we were in Phuket, the guys went off for their smoke at the airport and met their First Lady boy, to quote Simone “new it was a lady boy as she/he had a five 0’clock shadow, worse than mine” The trip to our motel took a fair amount of time, the scenery reminded Simone and I of Fiji. Get to our motel to be encouraged to upgrade, we were going to then didn’t, once we got to our rooms, that opened to the elevators. I quickly had a look at the view of someone’s back yard and walked next ... read more

Beaching is always my favourite thing to do on the vacation. I just got back from a friends-and-family trip to Krabi, Thailand. It turns out that spending time with loved ones, in an affordable paradise, is one of the better ways to pass three days. So without further ado, let me tell you about our getaway and hopefully give you some solid ideas about what to do in Krabi Thailand. Krabi, Thailand Trip Day One: An Airport Reunion As is the case with any trip, the first hurdle was getting there. Luckily, Krabi is a hospitality hub, so finding flights is fairly easy. My husband Archie and I flew into Krabi directly from our current home base in Chiang Mai. Our friends hopped a flight from Bangkok. My parents, who already live down sou... read more

We set off on January 18th with the kids in tow and stayed the night in Melbourne for an early morning flight the next day. We met up with one of our friends Chris (from our home town) and also my son Trent and his girlfriend Vic who flew in that morning from Adelaide at the airport. The trip over was pretty uneventful with a small stop in the Kuala Lumpur airport. The kids were amazing on the way over on the long flight, both desperate to be the one to sit next to Trent. They were made to swap halfway! We met up with my parents in the KL airport for a quick meal before Mum and Dad flew out to Bangkok for a few days and once we headed for Phuket. It was after ... read more

With sunny weather in the forecast, we planned to spend the bulk of the next two days on the beach. We picked url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g297930-d2454044-Reviews-Patong_Beach-Patong_Kathu_Phuket.htmlPatong Beach for a Sunday Funday and url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g297930-d2454044-Reviews-Patong_Beach-Patong_Kathu_Phuket.htmlNai Harm Beachfor a more laid-back Monday. We packed a six-pack of Leo and headed for Patong. We grabbed lunch near the shore and picked up some beer coozies at a convenience store. The sun was sizzling, so we sought a shady spot to sit and sip our suds. We spent the day switching between the surf and our refreshing beverages. Eventually, we started ordering Leo beers from a vendor. Brad put his newly minted MBA skills to work and ... read more

We had an active day planned for today. Tigers, monkeys, optical illusions: what else could anyone want? We took a GrabCar to Tiger Kingdom which was about a 20-minute ride from our hotel. The park is in an odd location; sandwiched between a strip of typical Thai shops and a go-cart track. We had to decide on which package to purchase. The tiger is one of Brad’s favorite animals and he naturally wanted to see each cat. Kristy, being more austere, convincingly persuaded Brad to get the “Take One – Big Cat” package. Tigers were classified as smallest, small, medium, big, and El Tigre according to size/age. Before going into a cage to play with the tigers, we walked around to see all the felines. There were roughly twenty cats on the property. The large males ... read more

The sun finally arrived on our honeymoon! We hurried out of bed to take advantage of the clear morning, unknowing if the storm clouds would move back in. Kristy got a banana and chocolate pancake breakfast while we walked between two beaches. We settled into a spot on url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1507054-d7155397-Reviews-Ao_Nang_Beach-Ao_Nang_Krabi_Town_Krabi_Province.htmlAo Nang beach. It was hot, sunny, and breezy; a perfect day for the beach. We laid out for a while then tested the surf. The water was warm but still refreshing. After soaking up as many rays as we could, we ascended some beachside stairs to the url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g1507054-d8869847-Reviews-The_Crab_Company_Restaurant_Bar-Ao_Nang_Krabi_Town_Krabi_Province.htmlCrab Company restaurant. We departed the hotel for a daybreak flight out of Chiang Mai to the coastal territory of Krabi. We took an Air Asia flight which was somewhere between a Southwest and Spirit. We transferred to a private coach to our hotel, 8icon in Ao Nang, arriving before check-in. We got lunch at a small street restaurant and were able to check-in after eating. After a short nap, we ventured down to the beach to check out the surf. The conditions were cloudy and windy which resulted in rough waters. We walked along the beach enjoying the passing patches of sunlight. On the way back to the hotel we stopped for some Indian food when the heavens opened and we learned why this is called the wet season. After dinner, we stayed in the hotel room while ... read more

We timed our visit to Koh Phangan to make the famous Haad Rin beach full moon party. We stayed at Blue Lotus bungalows along a remote beach, 10 minutes north of Haad Rin. The party was ram packed with around 20 thousand people, amongst were many sipping on their lethal buckets of mixed spirits. We were tactical and brought our own booze; it’s the best way to keep it cheap and avoid dodgy shots. I still managed to throw up in the sea though. Keeping it classy. Everyone is bound to have fun at this rave. However my advice would be to go to the half moon or jungle party instead. The full moon party is very overcrowded with speakers solely blasting out EDM, whereas the other parties have a better variety of music and much ... read more

Koh Tao is visited mostly for its exceeding reputation for scuba diving. We spent 3 days at Big Blue Diving school, completing our open water dive course. We didn’t actually see much of Koh Tao itself as we spent the duration of our time there learning to dive. However we stayed on a perfect beach with clear water and golden sand, with fire throwing and entertainment every night at the beach bars. Big Blue had been recommended to us as the best place to learn to dive, and it really was. Our instructor was a young Israeli lad called Yam who taught us in the most fun way possible, making us feel completely comfortable and confident. Once we’d got the basics, he had us doing backflips and tricks under water. We loved it. We did 4 ... read more
