I hardly dare whisper this but the weather is perfect. Monsoon! What monsoon? Early this morning the others were out looking for sharks and I sat on the veranda with my pot if tea. Mollie came back after about an hour and said "I think that's enough swimming with sharks for now". We did laugh - how blase is that? We've had another lovely day pottering about swimming etc Included here some screen shots from the go pro ... read more

This morning I woke very early and the cove was mine. From the veranda I watched as, slowly, people came down to the beach for an early morning snorkel. There are never many people on the beach. The sea has white horses today but our little cove is quite calm. The boys went snorkeling early and came back thrilled to the core saying they had been surrounded by black tip sharks, the biggest one about 5 1/2 ft. They woke Mollie and went again and saw more sharks but not as many. I'm so pleased for them. After breakfast we went into town for supplies. It was to hot to spend too much time looking around so we came back and went to the other side of the peninsular to snorkel. It was so lovely and ... read more

Today I overcame my sea phobia and went snorkeling with the others. So many different colored fish and only a couple of feet from the shore. As we swam further out it was sad to see all the broken coral that had obviously been trampled on by us humans. This cove is quite shallow. George and the kids went snorkeling on the other side of our little peninsular and said that though it's a bit of a climb down to the water it is much deeper so the coral is still beautiful. I'll go there next time and see it Later in the day the three came back from a long snorkeling session and told me how they had seen a black tip shark and they had followed a turtle for about half an hour. They ... read more

After breakfast and a swim we finished packing and took the truck back into town and waited for our ferry to Ko Tao. The sea was choppy on the one and half hour journey but we were all fine. (I took a travel pill). It was very busy when we docked but our driver was there to meet us and he drove us up the steep, narrow roads to Sai Daeng Beach Resort. This place is absolutely stunning. It is set into a rocky hillside. The reception is at the top (I don't think I'll be climbing up there much) and the chalets are scattered down the sides down to the beach. Our rooms are just about on the beach which is great for me with my dodgy hip - it couldn't be more perfect. G ... read more

I can't believe it's Friday and we will leave here tomorrow. We laid on the beach under the coconut trees and as I gazed up at the coconuts Georgie said "more people are killed by falling coconuts than by sharks" - we move slightly forward. The boys went snorkeling and in the afternoon we drove into town but we couldnt find anything we wanted to buy and it was hot so we came back for a swim We had diner on the beach and watched the sun go down.... read more

To day we were up at 6.15 as the boys were going scuba diving. The wind had dropped and there were no white horses so that was a relief. I sat on my porch writing this blog and waiting for Mollie to wake up. It's not so easy writing a blog on an iPhone especially putting on the photos - they are so small. Mollie and I had a restfully day - she did some homework then we just messed around with makeup, doing Mollies hair and singing mainly We were sitting by the beach when dark clouds came rolling over and the thunder rumbled and I wondered where the boys were. The storm broke - wind, rain, thunder and the sea was rough again . We sat on the porch watching and it was fabulous. ... read more

It rained again in the night and today it's over cast and very windy. We drove to the little town and found a cafe to have breakfast (banana pankcakes seems to be the favorite). We looked in the few shops then went back to sit by the pool. The sea is very rough so I'm trying not to think about the boys going scubber diving tomorrow. We walked round the bay and had lunch in one of the beach bars and the kids went in the sea. The wind got up even more as the day came to an end and one the the sun shades blew into the pool. No one was hurt thankfully We had dinner by the beach even though it was windy and had an early night.... read more

After a good nights sleep in our lovely chalets the kids and I had banana pancakes for breakfast then we climbed in our car or should I say truck and went to explore the island. Kho Pha-Nang has far more jungle, is quieter, prettier, in fact it's paradise. It rained in the night (lucky again) and today it's a bit cloudy. We drove up the west coast to Koh Ma on the north west corner of the island. It's a tiny island joined to the mainland by a spit of sand. There was quite a lot of drift wood on the beach, washed up by the storm last night, which the locals had made into a long row of fires. I'll bet they look great tonight when they light them. We walked round the bay and ... read more

We went for a swim and then found out that the ferry we had planned to catch to Kho Pha-nang was full so we had a bit of a rush to catch an earlier one from further down the coast - the 12.30 high speed Lamprayar catamaran. The sea was calm so it only took about twenty minutes to get there which was good for me not having very good sea legs. When we docked at Thongsala we waited for our luggage to be unloaded. My pink case was high on top of a huge pile of precariously balanced cases and I think I was lucky it didn't fall into the sea on the way over. We squeezed into an already full songthaew thats roof was also was piled high with luggage. One young man couldn't ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Ko Samui August 13th 2017

Our last full day on Kho Samui. After breakfast we floated about in the warm sea and messed about on the beach for a while then we decided to drive up into the mountaind to the Namuang waterfalls. The main roads are good the side roads not so good. We got a bit lost in the jungle vegitation, saw elephants trekking slowly passed carrying their passengers, passed by monkey shows, signs to zip wires and finally found the falls. It was ofcause touristy with a car park and stalls selling the usual souvenirs but it was beautiful. The water wasn't cold and the falls were invigorating. We spent quite a long time there. Several people fell over on the slippery rocks. One of them smashing their mobile phone as well as their head. The children were ... read more
