by Jan We didn't plan into too many details the things we want to do and see while on this trip, but one thing was certain before we left. We both wanted to experience the famous full moon party on Koh Pha-Ngan. We knew that all the islands in the area get really busy before the party so we had to book a place to stay a few weeks in advance. The first decision we had to make was where to stay, on the actual island or maybe "next door" on Ko Tao or Ko Samui. Asking friends for their recommendations didn’t help at all, as everybody had a different suggestion. After doing a lot of internet research we figured out it would be the easiest and cheapest to stay on the scene of the crime ... read more

Our day started early ready for our boat trip to Koh Phangan, we had breakfast of tea and toast before we got picked up and dropped at Nathon pier. When we arrived we found a seat and took in the people around us. One thing that we had observed more and more were the amount of families that travelled, with young children. We don’t understand how a 5 year old can understand the beauty of Thailand and for a young child to have to go through the travelling is surely unfair. Once we got on the boat we headed downstairs and as we sat down noticed a group of boys, and amongst them was our friend from Bangkok, Lewis! The best thing about travelling is you will just bump into the same people again without even ... read more

We LOVED Koh Phangan! After our scooter experiences at Koh Samui, we rented one as soon as we got off the ferry and headed out in search of budget accomodation. We wanted to be fairly close to to Ban tai beach as the Black Moon party (full moon's slightly smaller and less teeny bopper cousin) was to be held there the day we arrived. After 20 or so minutes scootering about we found some lovely huts just off Ban Tai beach. They were cheap, cheerful and had great views of and access to the beach – ideal! Something just didn't feel right though … for somewhere that should be commencing a huge beach party in a few hours there were few signs of life. Zombified looking groups sat and lay about the bar area of our ... read more

I had a lovely last weekend in the village. On my last Sunday, I was asked to go into the church so that they could pray for me, which was very kind. Agnes was taking the sermon as Pastor John had to go and speak to another church, but she gave a very passionate sermon and they even got Teacher Samuel to translate it for me. Then there seemed to be some kind of grieving ceremony, where Agnes hugged all the women and everybody was crying and praying and chanting and drumming, and Mary was on the floor sobbing, it was pretty intense. When things seemed to calm down, Agnes said some very lovely things about me and I had to hug her too while they all prayed for me. So it’s nice to know that ... read more

So, its been over 2 months since heartache and poo was last updated and I’m sure if you weren’t already bored of the travelling lesbian (and sting) saga you are now. But I have some time to kill and thought I might as well update you on our adventures. On leaving India some 2 and a half months ago we returned to Bangkok where Sting finally decided to bite the bullet and do what she’d been threatening to do for several months – get dreadlocks. Obviously her own hair wasn’t long enough but for just 20 quid she could have the hair of a ginger Russian prisoner woven into her own hair. Sting bit the womans hand off at the prospect –metaphorically speaking of course (that’s not allowed, even in Thailand). And so within just 3 ... read more

As a traveller you might expect to come across the old adage about the impact of the “journey” rivalling the importance of the actual destination, and we have; as graffiti on walls and decorative touches in the occasional guesthouse... But how true is it? Am I to consider this phrase literally or figuratively? Looking back and considering some of the journeys we have taken over the past three weeks, I am unlikely to translate this idiom into the Thai language and have it tattooed across my torso any time soon (as is the social convention these days, isn’t it?), nevertheless the weird and wonderful voyages across both land and sea can make for interesting conversation with new friends over Pad Thai and a Chang. Our first of many (and doubtless we have many more to come) ... read more

Friday 10th June Arrived into Chiang Rai to see most things have closed for low season and so jumped back on another bus to Chiang Mai. Saturday 11th June Chill out day Sunday 12th June At 8am we were taken to a market with a french canadian couple and snacked on lots of fresh mango, rambutans (yum!) and mangosteens (not yum, taste like sour strawberries) and also bought food for our 2 day trek. We arrived at the waterfall and posed for photographs. It was cool but I'm kinda "waterfalled out!" We were then driven to the hot springs. Stripped off and fell straight in. It was SENSATIONAL. My first bath in months!!! I am known for being in the tub for a couple of hours and I easily could have stayed in the hot springs ... read more
