Vstal som az o 9/30,vonku si pozical bicykel, dostal mapu a siel na vec. Chramy su tu podobne ako v Sukhotia ,len tam boli lepsie.Do kazdeho sa plati 50b.Ja som ich vsetky kukol len zvonka, odkial je to tiez dobre vidiet Z kesiek boli dve v platenom chrame a jednu som nenasiel.Fakt demencia ludi co to umiestnuju do platenych objektov. Takze som sa vozil a fotil okolie. Su od seba dost vzdialene, bicykel je nevyhnutnost. Slnko pekne pieklo. Na ranajky som si dal predrazenu polievku. Premavka na ceste v pohode, len kopa turistov. It was with great pleasure that I learned the Global English Program would be taking a field trip to the former capital city of Thailand - Ayutthaya. I had already travelled to Ayutthaya, well over 200 km from Nakhon Sawan on a Fino motorbike down Thailand's busiest highway. I had seen the ruins, ate the food, drank the beer, and survived the ride home - in the dark no less - to blog about it. This time I wasn't headed there as a tourist, but as a tour guide of sorts - well, actually more of a chaperone, to be honest. Nevertheless, I was very excited for my first field trip with the Thai students. I had been on many field trips as a kid in America, and had chaperoned a few as a teacher as ... read more

Before I move out of Bangkok, I did want to mention that we did see several of lady men that Bangkok is so famous for. But I didn't realize half of them till E pointed them out. They look good. We left Bangkok Friday headed to Ayutthaya, the 2nd capital of Thailand from 1350 - 1767 when the capital moved to Bangkok. Along the way we stopped at the royal summer palace, Bang Pa In. It was originally built in 1632 but was destroyed and rebuilt in the 1800's. It was certainly cooler there than Bangkok because the humidity was lower. Basically felt exactly like the weather we left in Houston, still hot and humid but not as bad as Bangkok. The summer palace was, of course, a grand place, still a favorite of the Queen. ... read more

Al día siguiente me desperté ... read more

Well I did have good intentions to keep this up but as some of you know I wanted to to go North and then take a few weeks to relax by the ocean in Hua Hin and Jometien. Jometien is in Eastern Thailand and Hua Hin is in the west both are on the Gulf of Thailand. Well that is what I have been doing. My Kobo has become my best friend. The downloading of books from my own account at the Halifax Library works every time, it is so convenient. I am currently in Hua Hin I found out pronounced whoa hin. I was going we to rent a house but the one I wanted was gone by the time I got here and two other leads did not pan out either. So I settled ... read more

A couple of hours north on a bus lead us to Ayutthaya to do some serious sightseeing. We stayed in luxury accommodation (5 pounds a night) and splashed out on some air-con. Oh yes. Unfortunately the air-con dehydrated us so half of the group ended turning it off anyway. But we did have a fridge. Which Dave froze some orange juice in. On the first night we had an early one and got up bright and early –ish the next day to rent some bicycles to explore the historical delights of the old capital. Ayutthaya was founded in around 1350 and became the second capital of Siam after Sukothai. Consequently the city plays host to an abundance of interesting historical ruins, which makes up only a fraction of what once existed here. We visited as many ... read more

After Bangkok, I started my journey north by taking the train to Ayutthaya, the former capital of the kingdom of Siam. Only about an hour and a half from Bangkok I got there around noon, got ripped off by my tuk tuk driver again and checked into my private room at my hostel (my own bed, bath and a/c for only 9 dollars). This town began my two day visiting of temple ruin after ruin. And they get rather old rather quick as to me they all tell more or less the same story. That is they all once seemed to be a residence to patriarch or king and are now sacred. Some are pretty old (dating back to 1300s in this town) which is interesting but I was never overly impressed - maybe that is ... read more

Ayutthaya (stresses on second and fourth syllabes, or no one will know what you're talking about) was the old capital of Thailand, before it was destroyed by a Burmese invasion. It's only about 2 hours north of Bangkok, so it makes for a good day trip or stopping point between Bangkok and Chiang Mai. The train ticket from Hua Lamphong rail station is dirt cheap -- only 20 baht (60 cents) to sit in an old, smelly car with no air con. It took close to an hour to walk from the tourist ghetto at Khao San Rd. to the train station -- probably just about as long as a taxi would. I arrived in Ayutthaya at around 10, took a 4 baht ferry to the island (the center of town, surrounded by rivers), and walked ... read more

Ayuthaya is not as busy as Bangkok, even though Ayuthaya was once a capital to Siam. I expected a more lively and vibrant city during the day as well in the nights, bustling traffics and neon lights everywhere, full of activities, people everywhere but none all I could enjoy to see. Of course, much of these came with disappointments in my great expectations. But it was peaceful, the people are friendly and a good place for a mild relaxation. Places filled with people are mostly at the temples. Do the Thais go to the temples every day? I believe they do. They respected the Buddha as much as they respected their most loved King in their country, King Bhumibo or was it the other way round....hehehehe...its the same. Having breakfast from the hotel restaurant, ... read more
