... read more

Breitengrads in zwei Besatzungszonen aufgeteilt.

Geo: 37.5323, 126.957Arrived in Incheon, the port for Seoul. Another clear day with moderate temperatures. Our first stop was lunch. Tour departure was 11:30 and they have to feed you on tours over 5 hours. It was a typical Korean celebration style lunch. Over 25 choices shared by groups of 4. I tried almost everything and something's I still don't know what they were. Didn't get sick so it must have been okay. In Seoul, we stopped at the summer palace. It was destroyed by the Japanese and rebuilt over the last 150 years. Reportedly over 7700 rooms in many buildings over many acres. Our next two stops were shopping breaks. The first was just a city street but the second was a typical market street. Lots of cheap things to buy and numerous eateries. Very ... read more

Our last day in Asia has arrived. Drury and I really do not want to go home. We have really enjoyed this whole trip and fell in love with all of the people and places we visited. I knew this would be an interesting trip but I really didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. For the first time this trip Drury and I got to sleep in till 8am. We had breakfast in the hotel and then met Margo at the War Remnant Museum. I didn't take any pictures at the museum as it really isn't American Friendly. In Vietnam they call the Vietnam War the American War. Throughout the museum it doesn't show the U.S in the best of light, but it was interesting to see a different perspective of ... read more

Suzanne here... I was really excited about Seoul. We arrived at the huge bus terminal, some way from our hotel, not unexpected given the size of Seoul. We found wi-fi and worked out which bus we needed. First of all we picked up T-cards, the easiest way to travel in Seoul. There was one blip when the first card we'd paid for failed to dispense. We pressed the call button and an engineer came out, and promptly found the ticket which was just stuck at the side. Oops! The bus took about 45 minutes. First impressions of the area were good with lots of cute bars and resturants (we'd picked it for nightlife). We were staying at the Haemil Guesthouse. The room was small but fine, apart from the stupid shower attached the sink arrangement as ... read more

David here... The first bus journey from Gyeongju to Daegu took 50 minutes and was very comfortable. Arrivals was on the 2nd floor. Ticket sales and departures were on the 3rd floor. We made our way up and found the ticket counters. While looking at the boards, which did have English on, we were approached by a gentleman in uniform who asked us if we required any assistance. We asked about onward tickets to Daejeon and he promptly led us over to the ticket counter, ordered the tickets for us, translated the sellers information and then led us to the platform gate we required. We were astounded and very appreciative of the assistance. We would've been able to figure it all out given time I'm sure, but to have some official assistance made it really easy. ... read more

Suzanne here... Before our trip I'd read up about Korean New Year and had been led to expect total travel chaos the day before. So I was worried we'd struggle to get a bus to Gyeongju, and even if we did the traffic would be horrendous. In reality the bus was half empty and we breezed there in an hour. I'd also read that it's a big time of year for tourism so had booked The Apple Motel before even leaving England. Again, there was absolutely no need to worry. Still, it did seem to fascinate the owner who was very pleased to finally meet the people who had booked a room in a standard little small town motel six months in advance! He even called over another member of staff to tell her how long ... read more
