Today we arrived in Juneau. We actually didn't dock until around 1:00pm so there was quite a but of time on the boat today before we docked. We woke up and all got ready and met in the dining room for some breakfast and then headed up to the decks to look out at the scenery as we were very close to land. While I was out there I did see some dolphins swim by the ship as well as one whale. We all wound up back in the room and watched a movie and hung out until we started approaching Juneau. While everyone was rushing to get off the ship we had some lunch on the ship and by the time we got off the line was not that bad. We immediately hailed a cab ... read more

I apologize for not posting the past two days of our Alaskan Cruise, but for some reason I have been having trouble logging in on this travel site and very slow internet speed. I think I have it figures out now so we shouldn't have any more issues. This first post will be covering the first three days of our trip. Currently we are on the Holland America Euradam on our way to Juneau, Alaska. We left for our trip on Friday evening flying from Oklahoma City to Seattle nonstop on Alaskan Airlines. I really do love that we have a nonstop flight to Seattle. The flight lasts about four hours and was a very smooth and pretty uneventful flight. Drury and I both had dinner on the plane and the flight attendant was very nice. ... read more

Our last day in Asia has arrived. Drury and I really do not want to go home. We have really enjoyed this whole trip and fell in love with all of the people and places we visited. I knew this would be an interesting trip but I really didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. For the first time this trip Drury and I got to sleep in till 8am. We had breakfast in the hotel and then met Margo at the War Remnant Museum. I didn't take any pictures at the museum as it really isn't American Friendly. In Vietnam they call the Vietnam War the American War. Throughout the museum it doesn't show the U.S in the best of light, but it was interesting to see a different perspective of ... read more

Can't believe it is our last tour day. It really hadn't hit my that the tour was coming to an end till yesterday actually when they mentioned the farewell dinner this evening. Today we drove outside the city of Saigon and headed to the Chu Chi Tunnels that the Vietcong built. It is basically a complete underground city they built to escape the bombings. On the way to the tunnels we stopped by a home where they make rice paper for spring rolls. It was actually interesting to see how they make it and some in our group even tried to make some themselves. It's a very delicate process and not as easy as the woman made it look. After buying some souvenirs and trying the rice paper, we headed to the tunnels. We walked through ... read more

Today we are off to the Making Delta. The bus ride from the hotel to the delta takes about two hours. Half way through the trip our bus driver pulled over to a Vietnam rest area. The rest areas are great places! They are usually run by one family and they set out a lot of hammocks and have a small convenience store and free wifi. Apparently these rest areas are all over Vietnam and are used mostly by motor scooter riders on long trips as they need to cool the scooters down and also rest themselves. We had some local coffee and relaxed in a hammock for about 30 minutes before we were off again to the Delta. Our first stop was a village where they make coconut candy and sell locally and ship to ... read more

After having a quick breakfast at the hotel it was off to visit The Independence Palace, home of the former President of Vietnam. I was surprised when we pulled up to the gates as it ready does not look anything like a palace but more like an office building. Once inside we found out that the original palace was bombed by a rogue pilot trying to assassinate the President back in the early 60's. The President hired a well known architect at the time to design the new palace and he wanted it to have a modern feel. He also built the new palace with a very strong bunker in case it was ever bombed again. After the tour of the palace we got a brief tour of the city and then returned to the hotel ... read more

Now it is time for our group to head to our last country of the tour, Vietnam. As usual we woke up early and headed off to the airport. We were flying on Vietnam airlines and the check in process was extremely slow. but security was pretty fast. I was lucky on this flight as the person checking me in gave me an exit row seat on the aisle and no one sat in the middle seat so the flight was very comfortable. When we arrived in Vietnam we had to go through immigration which was relatively fast, but the luggage took forever to arrive. We met our guide for Vietnam, Vince and he took us on the bus straight to a local mall that had a food court of all sorts of cuisine. I laughed ... read more

Today was Angkor day and we knew it was going to be a long but fun day. We woke up really early as we were meeting everyone in the hotel lobby at 7:00am. Our tour guide told us that we needed to get to Angkor Wat as soon as it opens as it gets crowded quickly. They took us to the east gate as it was not crowded. We walked past the mote that surrounds Angkor Wat and then proceeded down a long tree lined path and then Angkor Wat suddenly appeared. It really is an impressive site and our tour guide did a great job of taking us to through the east gate as the sun was behind us and shinning on the buildings. We took a group photo and then got in line to ... read more

Interesting day planed today as we are going to be riding an ox cart through a small village and then riding a boat to the floating city. We all gathered on the bus and headed out of Siem Reap about 45 minutes to a small little village to ride our ox carts. It was a lot of fun to ride through the cute village and wave at the locals. Everyone is so friendly here. After our ox coat ride we drove along some narrow dirt roads for quite a while heading to the boats that would take us to the floating village. We stopped along the way and took a picture of a beautiful lotus field as well. I wound up boarding the boat first so I got a great seat at the front of the ... read more

This morning we are off to Siem Reap, home of Angkor Wat. We had to wake up early and meet our group at 7:00am so we could catch out flight. We were flying on a small prop plane again but the flight only lasted about 40 minutes so it wasn't too bad. At least this time I got to look out the window. We arrived in Siem Reap and immediately were taken to a large park wth a temple. We say some bats in the trees and all learned how to fold lotus flowers. We then gave the flowers as an offering in the temple and made a wish. We then headed to lunch before the group split up with half going to the museum and the other half going to the hotel.
