Just wanted to do a very brief blog to let everyone know that Saffron is absolutely fine. Just heard from Chris at the hospital and he said that she fell asleep in the cab on the way there! Theyr'e gonna stay in overnight again tonight and most of tomorrow day, but I think it's more for the sanity of Chris and Rebecca than Saff because they hadn't really slept since she was born, and she obviously thought they deserved a rest now! ... read more

It really was a fling: one day to run wild along the streets of Singapore, soaking in all the pleasures and delights the city has to offer. Not much more I can say at this point, as time is running out on me here. Enjoy the photos for now and hopefully I'll be able to come up with a composition more in keeping with my usual eloquence at a later date.... read more

So i realise how keen everyone is to see the photos, and can't understand why they haven't been posted up yet but its been a long day and i'll try and tell you about it without falling asleep. (if you would rather skip the excuses and head straight for the photos just scroll down I wont be offended). So here we go, due to the excitement of last nights news and jet lag we ended up with about 5 hours sleep , which isn't too bad if you've been getting regular good nights sleep, which we haven't. First thing this morning we jumped into a cab and headed over to the Thomson Medical Centre to meet the latest member of the Wheeler clan and were there within 15 mins. When we found the room we knocked ... read more

I dropped into Singapore to catch up with Sonia for dinner. It's so close to Malayisa and yet so far removed. The outdoor restaurant where we ate was incomparable with the dingy cafe where I watched the world cup final in JB - full of westerners (I was the only one in JB), clean, efficient, decorated, modern, and bloody expensive. Luckily Sonia was paying! A bit of history: Singapore joined the federation of Malaya (hence the name change to Malaysia) in 1965 and left in 1967 when Lee KY saw the writing on the wall. Good choice. The sultan of Brunei decided not to join Malaysia, preferring to remain the world's richest man, while Sarawak and Sabah did join, and have been regretting it ever since judging by the locals healthy disrespect for the federal government. ... read more

OH MY GOD!!!! at 11:20 pm local time there was a new Wheeler born. Saffron Wheeler weighed in at just over 5lbs and is a fiesty, happy little baby. The first we heard was when we were leaving the botanical gardens to meet Chris and Rebecca for dinner in Chinatown and turned on Ali's phone to check for messages from Chris and there was, "looks like Rebbeca's in labour" at which point we changed the destination of the taxi from Chinatown to Raffles city where we would wait to hear if we should go to the Raffles hospital where they were headed. Chris phoned Ali while we were in the taxi and told us that he would let us know of any developments. 1 hour, a singapore sling, and a nose round the Raffles hotel later ... read more

Right, from the beginning. I'm writing this on the 6th of August in a internet cafe in London, so bare with my while I try to write as if I was still at the current date! Mostly I'm going to use emails I've written, so if you think it sounds familiar that may be why. :) The flight here was sooo long. I'm not looking forward to the even longer trek I'll be on soon. We got delayed in Wellington, and then delayed even longer in Auckland due to the fog, our 747 from Singapore had landed at Ohakea!. So we ended up only getting on the plane in Auckland at about 6pm that night. Got to our hotel at 2am local time. Thats 6am NZ time. A long day. The beds were crap and the ... read more

We've just touched down in Changi and are using the free internet to let everyone know that we've made it as far as Singapore. Only one or two screeming kids disturbing our sleep for the past 11 hours. Not to mention the fact that Frankfurt airport was basically closed and all we had access to was a toilet and a drinking fountain, not even a smoking room!!!!!!!! which is why this is a short message as we are just about to go and find somwhere I can smoke. It's not all bad though we're so excited to be here and cant wait to get out and explore the city. Let the adventures begin. Ali & Stew. xxx... read more

Hello everyone.. now that Nick is gone you are gonna have to put up with a blog written by Rajan and Bryan :P First of all, thanks to Nick for all the hard work he put in on this thing so far, awesome job :) We were sorry to see him leave, but we had some good times :) All right, since Nick left we spent a few more days on Ko Phangan and stayed for the famous full moon party. The days leading up to the party were pretty relaxing, lots of sitting on the beach, walking around and scooter trips into town. We managed to find a "football" .. it was probably the worst quality one I've ever seen, but it kept us busy for the last few days. The night of the full ... read more
