We arrived! It's day two for us and it's really strange to us that in time we're so far ahead of home. Singapore is much different than I expected. Our flights were nuts. Traveling to Los Angeles was fine. We sat in LAX for six hours and we couldn't check in for our flight to Taipei until 9:30 at night. It wasn't until we were standing in line when we realized that we were supposed to pick up our bags and check them in with EVA airlines. So a race from terminals caused a bit of stress but US Airways saw that our final destination was Singapore and put a rush job on them. Which freaked us out even more when we finally arrived in Singapore and didn't see our bags come out on the conveyor ... read more

Hello, how is everyone? I'm in Singapore at the moment... been here about a week... leaving tomorrow. I'm staying in Little India... it's different from the center of Singapore which is very plastic and full of shops. Little India is full of markets and street fruit/veg stands... on Sunday the place is packed... Sunday is the only day most of the workers get off. Staying at a cheap hostel called the Prince of Wales... about $7CAD a night. Alcohol isn't very cheap... over $7CAD for a drink in a bar. First night there I met three Irish and stayed up until 8am drinking... went to an India bar and met the locals who where friendly. Next day went to dinner we a bunch from the hostel... went to an Indian Muslin restaurant... it was all vegetarian… ... read more

Haven't felt well for days. Back in Kuta I'd woke up exhausted, head-achey and freezing one morning, had to put all my layers on and sit under the thin blanket before breaking into sweats less than an hour later. I hadn't even drank that much the previous night but the weird thing was that my lymph nodes were really swollen and sore but I guessed maybe it was really pulled muscles from my vain pre-clubbing push-ups last night. Flu symptons set in quickly and faded just as fast but then when I got to Singapore I developed earache, the pain from which kept me awake for days continuously and gave me weird blood-shot eyes and that histamine-overproduction feeling that hayfever sufferers learn to know. Something wasn't quite right... I was supposed to get the bus north ... read more

Ahh, civilisation. I seem to have gone from one extreme to another as I sit back and sup my Singapore Sling in the time-warped colonial settings of The Long Bar in Raffles; the origin of Singapore's most famous cocktail. If only I'd packed my white suit and matching hat, Mr DelMonte style.... Amazingly I exited Bali with almost no problems regarding my status as ilegal immigrant although I did get directed to Immigration 20 mins outside of the airport where I had to wait for 40mins, (the counter staff were at lunch...honestly this place has gone to pot since we left), before being told that I could buy a visa extension in the airport. What did I expect, I should have learnt the lesson of miss-information by now. The previous night the lads and I had ... read more

My trip to Hat Yai didn't quite go according to plan. The bus-ferry-minibus experience to Hat Yai went well - met some other backpackers on their way to Malesia. However, I was the only one staying on the Thai side of the border...when we arrived in Hat Yai a lady from the travel agency where we were dropped off asked whether I was continuing on to Malaysia. Now - while travelling, everyone is constantly trying to sell you stuff, and I immediately put my defences up. No, I didn't want to go to Malaysia, NO, I didn't want to go to Kuala Lumpur, NO NO NO NO NO. But foolishly, I asked her the price (extortionate). However, on the bus down, there had been an English guy who was on his way to Singapore, he had ... read more

Namaste from Little India, Singapore. We only arrived on Sunday and feel like we've already sweated out 10 kg's each. Thank God that every hotel and shopping mall is air conditioned! We've already found the greatest food hall where Scott had the famous Singapore Chilli Crab washed down with singapore' finest - Tiger beer. We even had Nasi Lemak for breakfast - rice with eggs, nuts, cucumber, spring onions and special chilli sauce (I was in heaven!) but am now suffering the effects of 3 chilli meals a day (bring on the dia-stop!!!) We came to Little India to get a curry but I think we'll be heading for Burger King instead :( We've already had a great look around the city on the free tourist bus, and will be off to the Night Safari tonight... ... read more

So it's goodbye to Singapore for a couple of months now. We've had an amazing time here, not exactly what we planned but it couldn't have been better. We're so pleased we got to see Saffron when she was all brand new. We're in the airport at the moment, so not a lot of time to write a proper message, and I think we'll be out of contact for a few day until we get to Cairns. Don't forget to keep sending us messages and comments cos it's really nice to hear from you all! Will update in a few days! Ali and Stew.xxx... read more

Well the adventure begins with a huge hangover...lol... I am writing this from Singapore Changi, after a fab flight from Sydney this morning. I must say I was hugely pleased after a huge night last night to get on the plane and find that I had been upgraded to business class. I had my doubts this morning when I was checking in that I was actually going to be flying today, funny thing was I went to check in and said Im going to Singapore and they said there is no flight to Singapore this morning. Well I was like, man I have been so looking forward to my trip what the hell has happened. Anyways can you believe it we were off to Dempasar, (ie Bali), spewing that I did not know I was going ... read more

OK - half way to our first destination and so far so good. Discovered that the best way to train for long haul flights is to spend several months beforehand staying out late and partying hard. Our bodies are so used to sleep deprivation and dehydration, that the results of a 13 hour flight seem simply like another hangover. Will be in touch when we get to Sydney.... read more
