Singapore Zoo is fantastic. The animals are all housed in open exhibits which are as natural as possible with hidden barriers and moats etc, rather than scary looking wire cages. It is also one of the few zoos to have white Bengal tigers which Amy was particulary besotted with. I'll attached as many pics as I can! After the zoo we went back to the hostel (we're now starting to call Boon Keng home!) for a shower and a change of clothes. We then went out to meet a big group of the RBS and ex RBS guys from the Singapore office in the Harbour Front area. They took us to a really gorgeous restaurant, bizarrely called No Signboard Seafood. As we are here in Chinese New Year period the guys ordered Yusheng which is a ... read more

We got an old Finnish friend far from Hong Kong to visit with us. She had just finished her exchange semester in HK and was on her way aroun South - East Asia passing by our beloved Singapore. It was a time to do some touristic things here and Singapore Zoo together with the Night Safari seemed to be a good option for us all. I personally had a little doubts towards Zoo, not that I wouldn't like animals, vice versa, I really like and appreciate them, I just dislike the Zoo concepts in general. Years ago I have visited in Kolmården Zoo in Sweden, which I pretty much liked, animals were more like free there. But after that I have been visiting couple Zoo's I don't want to even mention, so horrible they were, and ... read more

9/12/08: OK, for the second time I'm saying, it was a good flight, but this time I got 20 mins sleep! Also, we get picked up at the airport by my aunty. We went back to my aunty's villa/flat sort of thing, and then, typically, Mark needed to get medicine from the Hospital, so we spent about an hour there. Then we had lunch, but I wasn't that hungry, so I tried a dish with pasta and tomato, which didn't turn out very well because I had mushrooms in it. After that, me, mark and mum went swimming in the villa pool. It was big, so we could play big games in there....................Anyway, after that, we were in the lounge and I was reading, and I fell asleep! Even though it was a brilliant book............and when ... read more

A quick hello from Singapore. We arrived not yesterday but the day before (Friday). We went out for a stroll down Orchard Road - lots of Christmas trees! Amazing shops too. In the evening we met up with a guy called Jack - who we went to Maya Beach with. We went to an area called Clarke Quay. This area is fantastic - amazing bars - although beer is roughly 10 pounds a pint! not too great. We went to a bar called the Clinic - fantastic - wheelchairs and drinks on drips! Yesterday we went to Singapore Zoo and saw some fantastic animals including 2 polar bears. The zoo shut at 6PM and at 7PM The Singapore Night Safari opened - a different park - but what an amazing experience - sooo many animals - ... read more

11/11/08 = Zoo and Night Safari Up early and straight out for zoo. Got tube, then bought zoo tickets and got bus direct there. Awesome zoo! First, got pictures with parrots, then went to see Hibiscus monkeys (one of stangest creatures ever seen, with a large human nose) and then Short Clawed Asian otters = my favourite animals of whole day. So, so, so cute and all grouped together in front of people making noises that made them sound like they were christmas carrollers (albeit not very good ones). Then managed to catch zoo keepers feeding gibbons and then Maned wolves. They were really strange wolves and looked alot more like foxes. Went to see 'Splash Show' next = absolutely brilliant. Had cute penguins, ace manatees and star of show was a Sealion. He did loads ... read more

Dear all, Last night I finally made it to the night safari. I had waited all this time and went armed with my camera. The zoo is right at the other end of Singapore so to get there we had a tube journey and then a bus journey. There is a safari tram that travels through the rainforest and the animals are at the side as you go round. Some animals are separated from you by a huge pit...such as the lions and tigers. But some of the animals are roaming around freely. You can also do walks through the rainforest to see the animals. After our tour we went and saw the creatures of the night show...there were cats, otters, pythons, owls..it was very good. I had two favourites at the night safari. The first ... read more

I arrived in Singapore last night and I'm staying at The Hangout at Mt. Emily in Lilttle India. It's a nice hostel and most importantly has air conditioning! It's not that hot here, it's just humid. After getting lost a couple of times trying to find the bus stop I jumped in a taxi to get to Singapore Zoo in time for the first show at 13:30. The first show was Taking Back the Rainforest and some of the zoo animals had been trained to put on a performance to promote rainforest conservation, along with staff. At the end I had my photo taken with the staff from the show and a snake! I saw both of the other shows, one was with a sea lion, manatees and penguins and the other with Asian elephants. We have had the best couple of days! On Monday we went to Sentosa island on the cable car. Pricey, but cool. The island is kinda like a theme park, but without the rides. You know - that fake feeling to everything, but it was done really nicely and was very pretty. Not half as tacky as I was expecting. And it had great views over to the city, so we got an idea of what it looked like from a bit of a distance, which you need to get a idea of it. We wandered about and then decided to go on the luge - kinda like the toboggan at Llandudno but its not in a track but rather a kindof purpose built road. So we razzed down feeling like proper kida but having a ... read more

Today I went to the Singapore Zoo. You've seen one zoo, you've seen em all, right? Wrong! This was a beautiful zoo set in a lush rainforest, specialising in mostly Asian animals. I took so many photos, but have decided only to upload a handful as there is a good hundred or so!! I met a lovely couple, Nick & Sharon from Essex, England and we tagged along together - the 2 poms and the aussie being crass and loud and paying out the yankees!! Hope you enjoy my pics!... read more
