Woke up with the noisy construction outside.. was a nice sleep anyway.. we decided to go to Little India today, we wanted to see some messy area full of Indian culture and good indian food... Just like what I expected, never changed from the first trip, busy market, I love that. Waiting for Jason for few mins, gave me time to walk around Tekka Centre, where people sell food, spices, fruits, cloths, etc. Then we had indian food together.. mm.. nice masala tea.. We did long walk today, exploring little India, Mosques, visit Jason's place, having dinner around his area then back to Orchard fordrinks.. then Jason took me to go-go bar around there.. and so surprise that the gals there are Thai ladyboys hahaha.. ... read more

Today we moved to The Prince of Wales 'Hostel' in Little India. This trip was ok as I have now cheated and bought a little trolley to assist me with my bag! (Melissa that is). We settled into our cheap double with nice air con.. Eventually we ventured out to the Tekka centre for some lunch. Hoping to have a bit more luck with my selection. I had Hokkien Noodles, which looked nothing like the picture! Andy had sweet and sour pork. Again Andy finished mine. (at this rate I will loose this extra weight I have got travelling!) We went upstairs and looked around the stalls selling hundreds of sarees. There are so pretty and colourful. I would really like to have one, but don't think it would go down too well. Even though they ... read more

Spent a night in Omar's backpackers the night before going to Singapore where I met a Canadian lad called Rielly but when we tried to go out on the piss that night and realised that there were absolutely no bars whatsoever in the entire town we both decided that the next day we were gonna HAVE to get off to Singapore coz I can't deal with that! Coach journey there was the first pleasant one I can remember so come 3:30pm we were sat in Little India Singapore looking for a hostel. LP bigged up The Inn Crowd up to fuck but they had no room but Fragrance Hostel 5 doors down did dorms for the same price so checked in there instead. The place is like a 4 star hotel so couldn't recommend it more ... read more

Day 139-140 We flew out of Darwin late afternoon and arrived at our next stop, Singapore in the early evening. We caught the train to Little India, where we were staying. We checked into our hostel, which was really nice, but were pretty shattered so had some pringles and went to sleep. To make up for our lameness yesterday we got up early and walked to the main shopping street - Orchard Street. It was basically a row of malls although each one seemed to have the same shops. They have every shop you could ever want from Gucci, Prada, Armani to Topshop and M&S!! We both really like Singapore and were pleasently surprised as we hadn't heard anything that great about it. In the evening we walked around Little India, which is such a contrast ... read more

We're in Singapore for a few days, having flown out of Sri Lanka early on Saturday morning. It is strange to be in such a sleek, modern, high-tech city after 9 weeks in India and Sri Lanka. We are staying at the Inn Crowd Backpackers hostel in 'Little India', which, to be honest, is ridiculously tame in comparison to the real dirty, crazy deal! We lost a night of sleep getting on the plane, so we have had a pretty lazy time here, just wandering around the shops and not really seeing many of the sights. I have taken the opportunity to get a few things that I remember from my year here 18 years ago. I have now drunk 4 of my 5 pack of the elusive Green Yakult, something I have always associated with ... read more

Singapore wasn't as busy as we were expecting., though rush hour was much busier. I think our main impression of the city so far is the intense humidity and temperature! We have never felt as hot though and I cannot say that I have ever been absolutely drenched in perspiration before. And it is only the first month of summer here.... We've been fascinated with all the tiny shops we've discovered whilst exploring the narrow alleys leading off the main streets. and have thoroughly enjoyed exploring them. I confess that we've found it hard to eat from the many food stalls on the streets - the locals live their lives behind those stalls - we've seen people cutting their toenails, spitting, changing babies nappies etc on the food preparation areas. Some of the stalls looked really ... read more
