Hiya, my name's Dan and I'm 23 from Manchester in England. I used to work in the packaging industry doing CAD back home but I fancied a change so I've saved a load of cash and I'm going on a wander around the world for a bit. :o)
My trip is taking me around China, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and finally Australia. Hopefully I'll be able to get a job in Oz and stay there for a while but we'll just have to wait and see on that one.
Feel free to leave comments on any of my journals as it'd be nice to hear what people have got to say about my pics and stuff plus it's always nice to hear from my friends and family back home. Ta...

Eh up everyone, long time no see I know but not really done anything worthy of a blog in so long I didn't see the point. Anyway, for those of you who didn't know, my girlfriend Olivia and myself went on a road trip up to Cairns and the Barrier Reef for 3 weeks in my clapped out shed of a car which I love to bits but everyone thinks I'm a freak for doing so! You don't actually realise how big Oz is until you drive round it, to put this trip in perspective to you lot back home who think a 5hr drive is hard though, our 5000km round trip would have got us to Moscow and a good 1200km (according to online distance charts), of the journey back so as you can imagine ... read more

Just thought I'd give you's a quick update on what we got up to this last weekend as I hadn't been to Canberra since I got back to Oz so here ya go... I've been doing 60hr weeks most weeks to get this contract finished for the end of June so I decided to go away with Olivia for the weekend and Canberra sounded like a good idea coz it's not too far to drive and there's enough stuff there to keep us amused for the weekend. We also thought it would be a good test to see if the car would actually make it up the coast to Cairns when we go on our hols in August, good thing we did and all eh?! We got 20mins from my house before the engine overheated ... read more

Well then, been here in Oz a year now pretty much and all's still going well. Finally moved out of 71 Old South Head Road and got me own flat with me mate Ivan and job's still going fine, just thought I'd give ya a quick update on what I've been doing in the past few months. Last time I did one of these things me Mum had just gone back to England and Olivia had completely fucked me hair up so I looked like Vanilla Ice so that was just before Christams, hmmm... For my birthday in December my Dad paid for me to go diving with sharks just off Maroubra beach which was quality but unfortunately I've not got any pics from that yet, still haven't finished using the underwater disposable camera I used ... read more

Well then, this is as far as I got round Oz before I decided to set up camp and settle down for a while, good choice really if ya ask me. How the f**k I'm gonna fit 5 months of stories into just one blog is beyond me but I'll give it a go all the same... The drive from Melbourne to Sydney I managed to gun in 10hrs after giving it legs from Jools's house still hungover from the going out clubbing the night before but had to get away coz it was driving me mental. Rang Paul at 5am to meet up with him, found the hostel he was in and sorted myself out sharpish so I could get a beer and chill out for an hour before I went bed, no such joy ... read more

On the drive from Adelaide we stopped off in Mount Gambier for a night but didn't really see any of the town coz it was late when we rocked up. Next day we got on the Great Ocean Road for a day of sightseeing along the way, it was well worth seeing and all coz some of it was absolutely stunning (not that my pics do it any justice though). Only bad bit of it was when it went dark and we were getting towards the end of the road coz it goes PROPER windy near Torquay so it was taking us forever to get anywhere by then and I was just getting pissed off coz I was tired. Finally got into Melbourne around 9ish and checked in at the Exford Hotel which is a backpackers ... read more

Sorry this has taken so long to sort kids but been living it up in Sydney and Melbourne so it's to be expected, here's the next instalment anyway yeah... Welcome back to Australia - the land of drive thru offy's and pre-mixed cans of bourbon and coke, I'm in me element here I tell ya! Me mate Gaz who I know from back home but has been living here in Perth for the last 3 and a half years came and got us from the airport then it was off to The Swinging Pig in Rockingham to have my first beer in Australia ever - get in! For some reason the Aussie's seem to call ALL beers lager even though it's actualy lager but I wasn't complaining coz it was good stuff. Jibbed back to his ... read more

Right, sorry I’m so behind with these blog thingies but the pub's been calling me on a daily basis and I’ve had to sort myself out with a job and other such minor things so been a bit distracted. Anyway, as I should've been saying 4 months ago… The drive from Rockingham to Adelaide took me 4 days in total with stops in Albany, Norseman and Ceduna before finally arriving in Adelaide on Saturday night to meet up with Paul and tom who I'd met in Singapore. I was planning on going to see The Valley of Giants and Esperance on the way through but it was dark or closed when I turned up so no joy there and the Nularbor was just as dull as I imagined - 160km or so of perfectly straight road... ... read more

Spent a night in Omar's backpackers the night before going to Singapore where I met a Canadian lad called Rielly but when we tried to go out on the piss that night and realised that there were absolutely no bars whatsoever in the entire town we both decided that the next day we were gonna HAVE to get off to Singapore coz I can't deal with that! Coach journey there was the first pleasant one I can remember so come 3:30pm we were sat in Little India Singapore looking for a hostel. LP bigged up The Inn Crowd up to fuck but they had no room but Fragrance Hostel 5 doors down did dorms for the same price so checked in there instead. The place is like a 4 star hotel so couldn't recommend it more ... read more

Bus journey from KL was easy enough for a change, an iPod is most definitely THE bit of essential kit for trips like mine though I can tell you! I was told that accommodation at the ABC area (Air Batang), was the cheapest on the island so that's where I got the boat to drop us off and by 11am I was checked in at Johan's Resort for 20 ringgit a night and tucking into a bit of breakfast. After breakfast I went for a wander and found a good place for snorkeling off the beach so I hired some kit and jumped in. I saw 2 cuttlefish and a green turtle in the 40mins I was in so I was well chuffed, shame I couldn't take any pics though. That night I had BBQ blue ... read more

After missing the bus from Krabi due to going out on the piss the previous night my 2nd attempt was thankfully much more fruitful so was on the minibus for 11am next morning. Met a lad from Blackburn on the minibus but he was only doing a visa run so he got off at Hat Yai. I had to get off there and all to wait for the coach to Kuala Lumpur and after a 2hr wait I thought I was on my way but oh no, the pickup takes us to another travel place on the other side of town for another 2hr wait there, thankfully there was a Sizzler restaurant across the road to recharge the old batteries on spare ribs though plus my mate Tony gave us a bell so it was nice ... read more
