A côté : les garden on the bay. Ce sont des jardins au bord de la mer, dans lesquels on trouve notamment des arbres artificiels et 2 serres immenses. Franchement, on a beau en avoir vu plein de photos, on est pas déçu quand on y est. ... read more

Sunday 7th February 2016 We were excited to be heading to Singapore today having had a great time in Myanmar. Myanmar felt like real travelling again having to work hard to find places to stay, things to eat and generally getting around the city. Having said that, we were also looking forward to an easier time of it in Singapore where all of the aforementioned things should come easily. Checked out by 8am we were in a taxi with our new Polish friends and after 45 minutes we arrived at the airport. We dropped off our bags and got through security in record breaking time and sat to wait for the plane. We had a comfortable 3 hour flight south to Singapore and landed at 4:30pm Singapore time. We located the MRT (tube) and along with ... read more

We were up early this morning, as we need to leave the hotel at 6.00 am for Dubai International airport. Check-out went very smoothly, and the changes agreed yesterday had been applied to the final invoice. When everything had been sorted the receptionist informed us that the manager had made a note on our account that next time we book with that hotel we will get complimentary upgraded to business class with access to the business lounge. Not that we need an incentive to come back to Dubai, but when we do, we will definitely be taking up their offer. We were also sent away with fresh fruit and a set of daily Dubai national newspapers. A very nice result overall. It shows what a hotel can do to avoid a nasty review on Trip Advisor. ... read more

Tuesday 11 August 2015 Our thirteen hour flight from Paris seemed to go reasonably quickly. It was a strange flight. If we kept our watches on Paris time it showed we landed at 1:20 am. Needless to say we hardly slept. Saw two films, ate two meals, enjoyed in-flight snacks, read e-books, wrote a blog. There was one short bumpy section over the Bay of Bengal. Because of the late departure from Paris there were a large number of passengers starting to get concerned as we got closer to Singapore. Many had onward connections that they thought they were at risk of missing. Three passengers tried to leave their seats before the plane came to a stop. When the plane did stop they ran the length of the plane to be first off. Why would you ... read more

Hurricane Trip to Singapore People laughed at us when we first asked them about covering the entire country in two days. Travel agencies also refused to provide us itinerary for only two days. But we were determined to see the island and that too within 2 days. We decided to explore the country on our own. We googled, downloaded few itineraries, jotted down the tourist places, reviewed their pictures, saw few friends Facebook photos and finally prepared our itinerary. On one Friday we landed in Singapore airport at around 12.30pm. Since there was no cab waiting for us to drop to the hotel and we knew taxis are costly affair, we opted for Metro. We could see series of travel booking counters as we started moving towards exit. We stopped at one of them. We were ... read more

We did a few errands in he morning and then had a shopping day. We went round all the markets and ended up being out for about 5 hours! Lots of the stalls have similar stuff but you have to ask several people for the price of an item, find out the cheapest and then haggle with them for a cheaper price. It's quite funny because they give you a ridiculous first price which you can practically halve and then you make offers which they eventually accept! I got two playsuits a down from 350,000 to 130,000 IDR (£6!) then Katy and I went to sky garden where they have an all you can eat buffet for 60k including free beer for an hour (a shame that I don't drink beer or that it wasn't free ... read more

Singapore has changed an incredible amount in the 20 years since we lived here from 1992 to 1994. There are many more developed areas of the city, especially Marina Bay. Some things, however, have changed very little such as our special place Little India. It was always the area we loved most, not just because it was the first suburb we lived in all those years ago, it was where I had my first full time teaching job and the food is simply amazing, but because it is like being absorbed into a unique cultural experience within an already intense cultural experience. The sounds of temple chants and the Hindi language and the flip flop of thongs, the smells of spices and flowers, the sight of a multitudes of flowing coloured saris, flower garlands and Indian ... read more

Hello my fellow travellers! Today has been a most interesting day, one thing that I've reflected upon today is the aura of coexistence that surround this city. While walking around in this city I find that it's not uncommon to locate, within a stones-throw of each other, Hindu temples, Islamic mosques, Christian churches, Buddhist temples and Taoist temples. While talking about faith, religion and the world today with the Imam of one of the mosques he told me that all religious differences here are settled through a religious council with prominent members of all faiths attending and that it is written into law that you will not ridicule any religions and that all faiths are to be respected in Singapore. In light of recent events in Europe this might be something for us to take to ... read more
