As I landed in Bali, a wave of nostalgia and a flood of memories swept over me. With tears in my eyes, I realised I was here 20 years ago ... with Daddy (& mama as well of course). Wow, I’m not really the sentimental type either so I’ve no idea where that came from ?. Must have got some dust in my eye or something ? Oh by the way the pictures on the way to the plane are in Yogya...yes the airline hands out umbrellas for you to walk to the plane with!!! Anyway, back to Bali - WELCOME TO BALI BABY!!! Whoooo hoooo! ?? 1st impressions compared with Java is how characterful and traditional Bali is even from just stepping into the airport, with the staff dressed in traditional dress and lots of ... read more

Ono zas strajkuje, zas to neslo. More riadne vysoko oproti vcerajsku aj o takych 50m blizsie. Vyuzivam tien a zacina relax. Som prekvapeny, ze ziadny otravovaci so surfom, pivom, suvenirmi a masazami. Masaz by som si dal ale radsej od turistiek co tu chodia. Niektore fakt paradne. V mori kopa ... read more

What we most appreciate about living in Ubud is best summarized in all the little things we experience daily. The early morning rooster wake up calls, followed by the daily sing song “Selamat Pagi / Good Morning“ greeting of the hotel staff as they arrive with our hot water thermos. Early morning laps in the pool. Morning yoga practice overlooking the rice paddies and coconut palm trees. Laughter over breakfast with hotel staff and guests. Jumping on the motorbike and going, well, anywhere, because the freedom of the ride is always more important than the destination. The not infrequent complete halting of traffic on a main street for five or ten minutes to allow for a ceremonial procession of Balinese fully dressed in ceremonial garb, women bearing fruit baskets on their heads, men marching along playing ... read more

During the previous and following post I blog about my latest spiritual experience in Ubud, Bali in which Kundalini Tantra Yoga plays a fundamental part of it. Kundalini Tantra Yoga is the healing yoga. Kundalini Tantra, is raising the Kundalini through movement with breathing. Its a combination of Kundalini, Ashtanga, Hatha and Sivananda Yoga and its creator, Master Ketut Arsana has chosen particular asanas, that raise the energy and help the gland system. Master Arsana is a Mahatma Therapist, healer, Spiritual teacher, Master and Guru of Ashram Munirava. Ive never heard of this type of yoga before and after my fist session I was almost shocked, the sneaky like movements are very sensual and like a dance on your mat. Its very hard to describe but I will post some videos. The movements and the full ... read more

For the next few blogs I am going to blog my experience this past week to share with you but also like anything else that I write about, it is a memory to remember through words and photos ;) My mind has always been busy, it never stops, I can never relax, even on my sleep. My mind is always going and going and going and I can’t meditate. Lately it has been really hard for me to put the breaks on and relax and enjoy the moment. My attention spam is almost zero as Im already gone while I am here. I’m not really sure where that comes from. Part of it is because my guardian Orisha is Obatala. Also being a chef that travels from place to place and that is in permanent movement ... read more

After spending approximately three and a half decades teaching in a variety of Canadian classrooms, I officially left the profession five years ago. At that time, I recall saying in my farewell speech that I was not leaving teaching: just expanding the walls of the classroom. I knew I would soon be shaping a lifestyle built around extensive global travel, accompanied by extensive learning. So here we are, five years later. Since that time I have co-produced and released Standing on a Platform of Kindness, my second commercial album as a singer-songwriter, and continue to pursue self-directed study of the elusive world of music theory. I have taken up the sport of scuba diving and will soon be completing my 65th dive as a Certified Advanced Underwater Adventurer. I have spent twenty weeks immersed in the ... read more

We had three very relaxing days in Gili Meno, during which we cycled around the tiny island, spent time swimming and eating. I had the best pumpkin raviolis (although I never had any before so it doesn’t mean much!) in a posh restaurant on the beach and we had many cheap “nasi goreng” and “mie goreng” (fried rice and fried noodles). We left the island to go back to Bali’s mainland, in Amed. I was pretty ill then so I spent time sleeping while the boys went on a scooter ride. We visited the Water Palace, which was a nice place with many ponds where some kings used to live (as you can see, I didn’t read much about it hence the very unspecific information!). We took a taxi to Kintamani, next to the active volcano ... read more

Bali. Palms and beaches. Warm-skinned people. Polynesian-flavoured music perhaps. Batik sarongs. Somehow Bali surprised me. I must have been expecting a Waikiki or Miami kind of frenetic beachfront, peppered with high rises and more tourists than locals. Instead, we found a gentle-paced, low-rise, well thatched, kind of summer-camp-feel place. We stayed in the town of Sanur, with one main street that connects it to the towns before and after without break. The road is lined with clothing shops, restaurants of every kind , spas and massage parlours (the legit kind). Taxis toot as they pass hoping for a fare. No one uses their horns otherwise and everyone seems to make space for bicycles, scooters, cars and vans. The party towns are elsewhere; we chose Sanur as it was described as laid back, which I now read ... read more

24th March: Off to Bali. Rained all the way to Melbourne. We had a couple of drinks, booked luggage through weird but good getting our boarding pass as well, do every thing your self! We did get some help. Films on the plane were $8, games $6 so did not buy any. Good trip except for twins that screamed their heads off, when the plan started to Taxi and after a breather would start again. We arrived and were able to find a place to get a Sim card, once we worked out how to get the cover off! We then headed, not sure where we ended up but plenty of people wanting to take us to the accommodation. We knew we needed the Blue Taxi, well tired and having a taxi a driver pestering us ... read more
