Kristy found a well-reviewed restaurant for breakfast which was between Sheraton and Four Points (our next hotel). We walked over to url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g297697-d13957235-Reviews-Benih_Cafe-Kuta_Kuta_District_Bali.htmlBenih's Cafewhich offered a wide array of western style breakfast and coffees. Kristy ordered the eggs Benedict and Brad had a massive triple-decker sandwich. We shared an avocado coffee beverage as well. The meal was good and very filling. After breakfast, we checked out of the Sheraton and left our bags at the front desk. (original plans had us going to Gilli T this day, but due to the earthquake we decided to transfer to a less expensive SPG option down the street) We had both been considering purchasing customized leather briefcases for our new careers in Dallas, TX. We set out on the town to have a consumer-centric day. We walke... read more

We got a late start on the day. We when finally, did leave the room we headed off to find some Rendang for lunch. Kristy found a warung restaurant with good reviews for Rendang. Unfortunately locating the establishment proved more difficult than finding reviews. We settled for an Indian restaurant which unfortunately only had mediocre Indian food. While we were strolling the streets, we snooped around some shops. Kristy wanted to buy a purse. There are many shops which have designer bag knock-offs. We looked at a couple of these shops but found nothing suitable. There are also actual leather shops which sell purses, bags, shoes, boots, jackets, and other leather garments. We went into Moooi Leather. Kristy looked over the purse offerings and found one that she re... read more

We started this day with a successful quest for a smoothie bowl. We had breakfast at Nebula.Kristy had an Acai Berry Bowl and Brad had the Healthy Bowl. Both were pretty good but left Kristy still hungry. As we walked by the street entrance to the Sheraton, we saw a sign advertising the happy hours at the hotel/pool bars. The pool bar service had 60k mojitos from noon to 8pm. We decided to take advantage and have afternoon mojitos. We settled into a pair of lounges in the sun next to the pool. We had transferred to the pool to cool off when the waiter made his rounds. Kristy ordered the Naked Mojito and Brad requested the Berry. The Naked was made with brown sugar and used basil instead of mint. The Berry was made with ... read more

On our first day in Bali, Kristy found a specific smoothie bowl restaurant she wanted to check out for breakfast. We walked a long way from the Sheraton, passing a few other smoothie bowls, before finding that the targeted establishment was closed. Across the street, there was a breakfast spot that had “Big Aussie Breakfast” on the menu. We each got the Big Aussie which was very similar to an American style breakfast. It was delicious and a nice change of pace from the Asian breakfasts we had been having. After breakfast, we decided to make use of the beautiful infinity pool at the Sheraton. The pool and deck overlooked the beach, although a street (which did not obstruct the view) separates the two. We plopped down on two lounge chairs and soaked up some sun. ... read more

After such a busy few days touring temples and natural wonders, we had a (somewhat) relaxing Sunday planned. We had a mid-morning flight to Denpasar (Bali) which ended up taking off and landing late. When we arrived at the airport, we tried to book our last remaining domestic flight at the customer service center. Unfortunately, we found that all the flights to Komodo Island that worked with our itinerary were booked. We would have to wait for another opportunity to see the Komodo Dragon. We took a Grabcar to the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, where we were staying for the next few nights. We checked in, got cleaned up and headed north to the url=https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g608486-d2005895-Reviews-Potato_Head_Beach_... read more

We left the hotel and drove to the coast to catch a boat to Gili Air, the journey took a couple of hours and the roads were really winding. We grabbed our belongings and boarded the boat. The sea was quite calm so it made for a nice crossing and it didn’t take long. We were advised that if the tide was low, the boat would have to drop us a fair distance away so we’d get a horse and cart for the last bit of our journey to the hotel. Luckily, the tide was high enough for the boat to take us directly to the hotel. we were a little early, so the rooms weren’t ready for us to check in so we sat in the bar and ordered early lunch. The rest of the ... read more

We definitely want to stay longer in Munduk Moding! It’s a beautiful place to relax in but also offers a range of activities. Yesterday, Saturday, we trekked to two nearby waterfalls with a hotel guide. After setting off down the road through the village, we soon turned off onto a narrow concrete path just wide enough for a motorbike, which led into terraces cultivated with a huge range of different trees and plants, and tiny villages with homes hidden amid the trees, clinging to the slopes. Everywhere here is steep! The farmers grow a mix of crops together to maintain soil fertility – orange trees with carrots, cabbages with chilli plants and coffee trees and so on. Every now and then we had to step to one side as a pair of brothers made their way ... read more

I wonder where my dreams of Utopia come from? Bali has the whiff of ‘South Pacific’, a vision of a sunset behind a volcano. The actual island is kind of like a Maldives resort but with real people instead of ‘staff’. But Bali isn’t just a destination, it’s an aspiration (and that was alliteration darlings). (no it wasn’t – Ed) Have I bigged it up enough? But it is a stunning place with; mountains, jungles, forests, temples, and the legendary hospitality of the locals. We spent a week there in Easter 2018 and left knowing that we had barely scraped the surface of what it has to offer. The difficulty lies in the sheer variation of holidays you could take there. I can review what I experienced but a solitary week can only offer ... read more

We spend three nights at Siladen doing nothing. My sister Angela would be horrified at such a waste of time as she spends her time here diving backwards off boats and taking pictures of fishes 100 feet down. But we enjoy our time of idleness! On our last day there we take the boat back to Manado where the resort bus is waiting to take us e to the airport. Suddenly all the oncoming traffic starts to flash at our driver. He stops and checks the tyres. We have a puncture. Our chance of getting to the airport on time suddenly seems very slim. But he stops at a roadside ‘garage’ – the sort that sells petrol in bottles for motorbikes – and uses their airline to reinflate the tyre. Won’t do the job for long, ... read more
