Well we made it out of Borneo and to Singapore and then onto beautiful Bali which is the highlight for us so far. (Pics will follow - the connection we have isn't fast enough to load them up) Singapore was another surprise - intensely modern, really a western city and if the future is a completely consumer society then this is that future. The taxi driver that took us from Kota Johor airport in Malaysia (cheaper to use than Singapore’s Changi Airport) told us that if you don’t have money in Singapore no one will speak to you. Whilst a bit blunt it is pretty true. Yet Singapore is super clean, organised, works very well, is expensive but compared to Asia is streets ahead. The museums there are great as well particularly the Museum of South ... read more

We were ambling down the main street of Ubud and passed the Cultural Center where a dance performance was being presented that evening. What an evening! Basically, different dances were presented with various themes: there was the Dara Dara which depicted the refined movements of the goddess of heaven; the Baris, a high point for me, where the sole male dancer presents themes of heroism and bravery. The movements are extreme and depict, in part, the moment a soldier leaves for battle. The Oleg Tamulilingar duo with the dancers being a butterfly and a bumblebee in a garden; and, the Kebyar Bundrung which reflects the spirit of a young child. After staying in Bali and touring around the island we headed back to to Bangkok and then down to the Rayong area of Thailand about two ... read more

Well it was balmy hot and we were going to a mexican restaurant on double six beach. There was 11 of us in total. We were planning to leave at about 10pm to get the girls to bed and then have a couple of beers. I have never witnessed so much rain fall in such a short amount of time. Yeah, yeah I know its the rainy season but there was a huge storm with lightening and thunder. The front of the restaurant is open plan and due to the wind every one was rushing to the back of the restaurant to try and stay dry. Due to all of this we ended up staying till half past midnight. Ellie didn't seem to mind cos she was dancing to the music. Aisha just fell asleep. When ... read more

We left my sisters to catch a plane from Brisbane at 23.45. As per normal muggins couldn't sleep. The others managed to get a few hours each. We arrived in Singapore early, 4.45 am and then sorted out some of our fly miles with Singapore air. I also needed to get some US dollars for the entry visas. I was trying to lie down to get some sleep when the gate for the plane opened. We got on the plane. I was trying to watch a film called "Stardust" which I had watched half of on the first flight. I didn't manage to watch all of it but will definately be watching it again. Fantastic film. We arrived and hadn't been given a boarding card on the plane. We were blissfully unaware that we needed one. ... read more

On 17th May I flew from Sydney to Denpasar, the largest town on the island of Bali, Indonesia. A few friends who all live in different parts of the world had arranged to rent a lovely villa for a few days to enable us to catch up and have a good chilled out time. When I eventually got through customs at the airport I was picked up by my driver and taken to the villa in Seminyak, a small region just North of Kuta in the South of the Island. In total there was 8 of us including Kyle & Sonia who now live in Singapore, Nick & Aleks who know live in Jakarta, Simon & Ruth, Lauren and me. The holiday conisted mostly of surfing, eating and drinking. The Aussie dollar and the UK ... read more

So...the story continues We left Phuket at 0530 for the flight to Singapore. Once there we booked our hotel at the airport. The taxi driver spoke really good English and told us loads of great places to go. I wanted to visit the night zoo so we did that on the first night. It was a good evening and saw lots of animals including Lions and Tigers. I really liked Singapore. The climate was just right, and the city was clean and welcoming. Nearly everyone spoke English. We looked round the shops and went to the cinema to see the new Hannibal film. (was ok). On the second day we went to Sentosa island. We went to see the underwater world and Dolphin show. It was a good day out and not too expensive, although more ... read more

Wow i havent written for ages and loads has happened. We are now in Seminyak in Bali. Its blowing a gale but the weather is still hot. I have not written since the Phi Phi islands so i shall begin there. Actually i shall go back to Krabi as i have forgotten to tell you about the sea kayaking and Elephant trekking, or did i?? oh i cant remember. Anyway the kayaking was good but hard work on the arms. We paddled through the mangroves and encounted some monkeys. These ones were quite well behaved and mostly staying in the trees. We chucked fruit up to them. The second bunch on monkeys were not so polite. They jumped on the boats (pooed on mine!) and pinched fruit from the baskets. The elephant trekking was fun but ... read more
