Lucky to be in Kowloon and convenient if in Central. Lucky in Kowloon because one has the opportunity to enjoy passage by Star Ferry to Central, proceed up the ramp, turn right and walk a mere three blocks to the main bus terminal. Should one already be in Central, then one should be within walking distance or a short cab ride. One need not reach the station, by simply meeting Bus 61A en route at one of the stops nearby the ferry, however, chances are that the top two forward seats on the left side of the bus will be pre-occupied and that is unacceptable! Should there be others in line for 61A, one should step back and await the next departure. Those seats up the stair ladder are paramount in assuring a most fascinating ride ... read more

Sunday afternoon for me, thought I would catch up on my blog.... Let's see .. Monday ( the 26th) the TV arrived, was set up and my wonderful friend John hooked it up to cable and HD,etc so when I got home I found the 3 of them around the telly... Went to carambas which is a mexican restaurant off of Elgin street for our last night of dinner together and we ended our night at McSorley's Irish pub. The work week was hectic with projects and things to get done- I was very happy to see Friday come. Left work on time- 5:30 pm so I could make my mani/ pedi appointment. So relaxing... Stopped at Yorshire Pudding for a beer and some dinner and then back home to unwind- I know exciting... Saturday woke ... read more

Bitter sweet Bangkok....a complete contradiction, an impossible city to love but a must to experience. We stayed at Udosuk on the 11th floor of a block of modern flats...tiny but clean and functional. We had the skytrain on our doorstep so were in the centre in 20 minutes. We had a kitchenette so were able to prepare food for ourselves on a couple of occasions as I, personally can't bear the sight of Asian food anymore! We visited what we could but it was very hot and humid. A highlight was sailing up the river on the ferry, cheap as chips and an eye opener! We also took an afternoon cycle tour ( 4 hours ) run by none other than Anthony Hopkins half brother! We got to visit parts of Bangkok we would never have found ... read more

Hello Everyone! I am typing this entry from my new apartment. Moved in last Wednesday... ( Feb 20th)- what a crazy day. Left work at 1:30pm. Furniture team was here before 2pm, cable called to say they were here right at 2pm, the locksmith showed up at 2:05, the air conditioner/ heat repair showed up at 3pm as scheduled. I am not use to service people showing up right at time when they give you a window like 2 to 4- such a crazy concept that they all showed up on time. The Tv stand was the only mishap- it was missing a piece so we had to wait an hour for them to find it and bring it - so by the time that was all done it was 6:30pm, ran to Ikea to purchase ... read more

Between Chinese New Year and Easter, I had a visit from my Mum, from the UK. I took the opportunity to be a tourist again, and get the camera out. It's nice to see things with fresh eyes again, and you appreciate things that you realise you might have forgotten were foreign or interesting or different. Luckily I was on holiday from work at the same time, so I spent lots of time hanging out with my Mum, creating new memories and enjoying each others company again. The weather was on our side, the winter seemed to have skipped up this year, having only been cold for a few weeks. Mum and I took trips to Lamma Island, Ocean Park, Cheung Chau Island and more. We spent a few evenings playing games at my brother's house, ... read more

Happy Sunday! After getting my hair cut yesterday which by the way- the hair salon is up about 500 steep stairs ( the road) to get to the place then you need to climb up 2 flights of stairs to get up there- I was worn out by the time I got there- LOL, went and got my key to the apartment, had my Octopus card updated so I can get in the building and open my mailbox , had the gas turned on , a walk thru of the very complicated looking intercom/ security system- it is pretty cool. You hit one button and it pages the concierage desk , another one let's security know you left the building so they will monitor your door for you and there is a panic button in it ... read more

Happy Friday everyone!!!! Chinese New Year was exciting to see and experience. On Saturday I headed to Victoria Park to check out the flower market which is not just a flower market- it is a bunch of stalls that sells flowers, chinese new year gifts and food. The place was packed-you couldn't move, it was all pushing and shoving. Sunday I went to the lion parade and then saw a mini lion parade at the hotel when I took tea and some afternoon beverages at the Q88 bar in the hotel. Monday night was fireworks which were amazing- they were right over Victoria Harbor. Tues/ Wed- I went back to work but my staff had those two days off.. :) Today (Fri), the agent in Hong Kong called me late afternoon to confirm the landlord recieved ... read more

I'd like to superimpose one day onto another please. Day 1 - Shin deep rubbish by the side of roads. An omnipresent film of dust clouds the air. Roads are choked to the point of standstill by vehicles, half of which are 3 wheeled. The most integral part of those vehicles is the horn. The incessant noise has you wishing you were deaf. Every 10 metres an auto rickshaw driver will confront you for an inflated fare to somewhere you don't want to go. Crossing the road is a genuine health hazard. Beggars cohort for loose change. The background odour of stale urine a constant. Everyone spits and men use any spare wall space as a public latrine. Blackouts are the rule rather than the exception. In fact nothing works with regularity. Tourists are, love it ... read more

Happy Chinese New Year Eve.. The Lunar New Year kicks off tonight.. Day 1 is Sunday and Day 2 is Monday but most Chinese and businesses take the whole week off. In Hong Kong we have Mon- Wed off as a public holiday. Most of the big malls and stores either have condensed hours during this time or close on Sunday and open back up on Monday. Some good news, I should be able to be in my apartment by Monday Feb 18th and my furniture can be delivered that afternoon. Broke down and bought a Macbook Pro today- they were have a sale and my company has a discount program with them so I actually got about 25% off of the original cost- which worked out pretty well. I then went to Marks and Spencer ... read more
