I began my traveling experience with the United States Marine Corps in 1963. That led me to Asia, where at a very young age, I was highly impressed by the people within the Asian basin and the love of travel. After leaving the Marines, I acquired my law degree and practiced law for about 7 years, yet felt a growing desire to return to Asia and involve myself with travel. Thereafter, I worked for a firm that offered luxury-styled tours and after several years with them, in 1989, I opened my own travel company named First Cabin Travel. Since my initial travels while in service, over the years I have visited some 170 countries and my love of travel has only grown in strength.
I find nothing more pleasing than accompanying travelers to destinations worldwide that I previously have visited, helping to show them some of the major highlights, but also some of the really unique spots that others may not frequent. These sites and the people that one finds at those locations can turn out to be the real highlights of the journey.
I have structured First Cabin to offer some truly unique destinations as well as off-track sites, but also to focus on putting ones head to pillow at the finest of accommodations offered within the location we find ourselves that evening. Over the years I have found that for those who have the opportunity to afford themselves that style of travel, some of the accommodations can be as rewarding as the sites that one visits. Another added benefit is after a full day of touring, the body truly receives a fine rest in a most comfortable environment, which allows the traveler to start with a new vigor on the coming day.
One other great opportunity alloted a traveler is the pleasure of capturing by lens some of the most dramatic moments of their trip, which allows them to rekindle those memories over a lifetime. I never considered myself an excellent photographer, however I have focused on becoming a great editor. Take enough shots and one is surely to be of brochure quality.
However one chooses to travel, there can be no doubt that it is a value laden experience, particularly if one is willing to reach out to make new friends en route. Making an earnest attempt to gain an appreciation of a new cultural and focusing on the positive aspect of what may be entirely new and foreign to their way of thinking is certainly key. That positive approach almost always will gain new friends at whatever destination one might find them and also gain their respect for showing an appreciation of what positives they have accomplished.
