We made it to Kunming before noon which gave us opportunity to admire constantly changing landscape on the way. Suddenly we could not see any rock formations and lush green fields but dry earth and desert plants. The mountain range in Yunnan is amazing and it kind of feels like spring is always there. Kunming town is located nearly 1900m above the sea level and temperatures are always mild and pleasurable. We did not intend to stay too long in Kunming as we only wanted to get our Vietnamese visa sorted over there. We took a local bus from a train station to the lake area and walked around to find some place to stay. We wanted to stay in Cloudland Youth Hostel but some guy we met told us there was even better place by ... read more

2 weeks back to the city from Lijiang, started to miss the tranquility at the dawn in Lijang, the morning sun shining into the window for a slow start of the day, ya, not to mention the nice and easy jazz songs surrounding Prague Cafe! It is really a slow pace old town to unwind our pressures from works in cosmopolitan lifestyle - fast, results, and money. I assume, probably quite true, longer life can be expected there in Lijiang or any similar places around the world with such a condition - fresh air, unrestricted mindset and nothing to lose mentality.... read more

A week would be a perfect span of time exploring the old town and oneself. Mixture of noises and quietness, there is a balance for everyone in Lijiang. I met so many people here from around the world, they live here, short or long, without actual planning. Some, for soul search and some for the sun and weather! " Call me next time you visit Lijiang! " The Naxi driver sent me to the airport, which is the last call for him today as he can't wait to enjoy another round of relaxing moment with his buddies under the sun! Well, I'm sure everyone gets something on the return journey! See ya Lijiang.... read more

Opt for a much quiet escape, well, Suhe ancient town is a great choice. 7 KM north of Lijiang city, local tip : take bus 11 from main entrance of Lijiang ancient town, 1 Yuan and get off from Suhe junction, it is a good 15 minutes walk to this I would say a much under-developed but gorgeous little ancient site. I like this place though she has her own character, yet quite unlike Malacca in Malaysia, and quite sure, she is different from Rothenburg in Germany! Would I spend few years here? ... read more

Tough Naxi woman yet she has fair principle and treat her customers very well, I observed she enjoys her business very much. She stands by the stream selling fresh vegetables, she would wash the vegetables right below her deck; focus - very concentrated on her task making sure every vegetables is in great shape. She can't even notice I was there for half an hour. Watching her selling vegetables is the one of the best moment I have in the morning marketplace!... read more

Walking in the Dayan old ancient town is a pleasant experience. I see different walks of life, a mixture of the old and modern! The best way is to start walking from the local ways - morning street markets. New discovery as always. Travel is always great way to refresh mindset. Instead of squeezing at the bar street, La Vie Bar nicely located in a very quiet alley by the running river! I was attracted by the live guitar play. " Just about the same after few months here! " the owner who came from Xi'an expressed in a disappointing tone about his intent finding a new challenge in life! Oh, a big hit into my mind as similar thought flourishing lately in my mind. Ha! My admires suddenly disappear into the breezes...... read more

Been a while wanted to come here, overheard this is a nice place! Well, the first impression at Memory Inn, located at the other side of the historical town, is tranquil and special. Ya, plenty to explore later these coming few days! It is blessed to enjoy some nice jazz songs under the clear sky with so many bright stars above my room 101 at the hill side.
