The last two weeks have been such flourish of activity, it’s going to take me quite some time to get it all out! I am down to about 3.5 weeks left in South Africa and will probably be hanging around PE for most of that time, so I am going to break up our Easter Holiday trip in to about 3 or 4 different blogs and work on them periodically over the next three weeks. I’m just gonna start from the beginning and the Garden Route to Cape Town will be the first section of our trip. Margot’s parents arrived in Port Elizabeth on Friday, the 26th. They did the Addo/Schotia trip, that I have talked much about previously, on Saturday and then we headed out on Sunday the 28th. Sarah, our new roommate who arrived ... read more

So on our arrival in Plett (as Plettenberg Bay is known locally) we found ourselves in the middle of an unplanned electricity cut so finding dinner proved a difficult task however we were fortunate to stumble across a fantastic restaurant where Paula was served up a veggie stir fry and I was able to feast on some local seafood. Sunday morning and the decision was made that after a long day in the car the day before we would just spend the day relaxing in and around Plett which is just what we did and it was even better given the weather was warm but slightly overcast with the occasional hint of sun. One of Paulas wishes for Plett was that she wanted to go to Tsitikamma National Park and do their aerial runway through the ... read more

20th Nov ======= After Birds of Eden, got dropped off at Plett and went straight to the beach from the backpackers. Plettenburg Bay means "Beautiful Bay" as named by the Portugese and the place lives up to its name. Spent couple of hours at the beach, just relaxing, back to the backpackers and drinks/dinner 21st Nov ======= Had decided that this will be a chilled out day, the day was sunny, so it was beach, booze, books, bakini babes and lots of sun :) Not much to report, tried being in water for sometime, but its freezing (15 degrees). So stayed in the sun mostly. 22nd Nov ====== Relaxed and refreshed, decided to go hiking to Roberg National Park at Plett. Decided to take the 2 hour hike, but in the middle of the hike realized ... read more

The plan was to take the bus in the evening to go to Plettenburg Bay, but met a few people at the Knysna Backpackers who were driving down to Plett after a visit to Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. They were kind enough to offer me a ride and I tagged along. Thanks Ilse, Hanvis and Charmaine :) Monkeyland is a 12 hectare sanctuary providing a guided tour of the place. Basic rule - don't feed the monkeys, don't touch them and when looking up, keep your mouth closed, you don't know what a monkey would drop :) They had monkeys, lemurs, apes (only one, didn't see him) and turtles. Had a really funny guide, so spent half the time laughing at his jokes Monkeyland also has the third longest swing bridge in the world (128 ... read more

Well I can't quite believe I only have a couple of weeks left now - literally 2 weeks today and I'll be back in the UK. It's been totally amazing with so many different adventures and loads of photos to bore everyone senseless with! Well I'm now in Plettenberg bay at the end of my second volunteer project - so very different from the first. This time it has been with an organisation called Orca - a whale and dolphin project, we have been out on the boats a number of time and spotted many humback and southern right whales, humpback and bottlenose dolphins, loads of seals, a solitary penguin that keeps appearing and also a sunfish! Been on beach cleans, fishing for various different things, helping at the local townships school, planting trees, visiting and ... read more

I've travelled along the southern coast of South Africa to join a lovely group of people and here I am diving with the sharks and falling in love with them. Here are just a few pics to give you a flavour but I will add more as soon as I can. Love to all! Bex... read more

28/01/09 - Today we decided to back-track to Plettenberg Bay as there were a couple of things we wanted to see - Tenikwa cats and Monkeyland. Both were great. The Tenikwa cats is a conservaton park which looks after wild African cats. You can walk right into their areas with a guide and even touch some. They were gorgeous! Monkey Land is a huge forest area where monkeys live in safety. A guide takes you for a walk through the forest and the monkeys are swinging through the trees all around you. Some even walk on the paths and you can get quite close, but they didn't worry about us at all. ... read more

From Addo Elephant National Park we travelled to Plettenberg Bay (Plett). It’s a much shorter stretch than any of the other road journeys so we stopped at a few places along the way. We stopped at the Bloukrans Bridge. The bridge is the highest bridge in Africa and the Southern hemisphere (height 216m). It is also the highest commercial bungee jump in the world! Only one of us was brave enough to do it -and hell no, it wasn’t me. Our next stop was Natures Valley at the mouth of the Groot River. It is beautiful! I was disappointed that we didn’t see more of Tsitsikamma forest though. I still want to go there. We spent the next three nights at a backpackers just outside Plettenberg Bay. The backpackers is called Starling Village backpackers. The owners ... read more

Our first stop from Cape Town was Plettenberg Bay. We hopped on the Baz Bus, which is a backpacker’s bus that you can hop-on and hop-off all the way along the coast right up through Swaziland and up to Johannesburg. Our first journey to “Plett” started at 8am and was going to take around ten hours. We were dreading it the night before but in next to no time we were over half way and having lunch in George, about three hours from Plett. We met loads of people, one girl from Norway who could speak a multitude of languages and was going to teach surfing in Jeffery’s Bay, our next stop! We also met three guys from Brazil who were all very funny characters, they had some great games to pass away the time! So ... read more

Well it wasn’t my first Caprese of the holiday last night, but I did opt for the mozzarella salad to start! Dinner was nice and again amazingly cheap (about £20 for 2 courses each and drinks) and afterwards we went to see the Xmas lights in George (strange to see Santa in a boat!) and then had an unsuccessful search for an internet cafe to put on yesterdays blog - George does not appear to have joined the internet revolution as the hotel had no access nor did any cafes or bars! We then headed back and put on the Santa film - I am doing really well now - up to 18 minutes!! This morning, after breakfast (with home made bread straight from the oven), we packed up and headed along the Garden Route to ... read more
