Plettenburg Bay was another place we were looking forward to as we had heard that it was one of the most beautiful spots along the Garden Route. We dedicated the first day to washing, email postcards and journals etc so the fact that it was pissing down with rain didn't matter. Albergos was the backpackers we stayed in and it was well set up for wet weather with tv rooms, games room, bar and large kitchen. The only draw back of Albergos was that it was surrounded by several construction sites, once again, rich white mans town. You could imagine the reciprocal looks as we stumble out of our tent full of morning glory to be greeted by dozens of black workmen sitting high atop the scaffolding eating their brekky only ten yards from us. Ok so since I left you... let me think, I cant belive a week goes so quick, ive only got like 50 weeks left :( Right, I Cable cared it up Table mountain, awesome view (spot whos been spending time wiv the yanks!) and crawled all the way across it. But felt after all that a chill on the beach was needed. A tour of the penisular was next and que the first ride, luckily on a bike, mostly downhill but still hard work, our lunch was then stolen by babboons, cheeky monkies :) Stellonbosh was the next stop, finally making a move from the Cape, not far mind. Que the wine tour ummmmmmmmm..... Got my money worth and fairly drunk, picture me at a free bar. Happy Pill. With a spare day we went to ... read more

Hey guys, Sorry for not posting in a few days proving hard to keep track of time out here, Nick doesnt even know what day of the week it is, ever!! Last you heard from us we were in 40 degree weather in Mossel Bay. Since then we travelled to Plettenburg bay about a 3 hour drive from Mossel bay, it is a little seaside town. We expected the pace of life to change from Cape Town and were quite looking forward to it really! We satyed in Nothando which was more of a home than a hostel, this was run by an older man called Charles and his wife. They were both lovely and Charles even gave us a guided tour on the way to the hostel from the bus stop! The room we had ... read more

I love South Africa. Leaving is really hard but I know that I'll be back. Whether it's in 2010 for the next soccer world cup or after that there is so much I have yet to do in this Country. We headed up the Garden Route to Plettenberg bay. We had a little bit of a near death experience. as 3 of our 4 tires blew out as we were going 110km/hr. Luckily we hit the side rail and escaped certain injury. We spent five days basking in the sun, playing touch rugby on the beach and, just plain old chilling. New Years was very eventful and all in all I had a great vacation from my vacation. New Years Resolutions 2006: 1. Get back in Shape when I get back. 2. Read at least one ... read more

Well other than our harrowing encounter with the guard rail on the N2 Plett was superb. This is what we did. Went to the beach and lay in the sun during the day, went out and drank beers at night. Repeat, repeat, repeat and repeat. Fantastic. It was awesome being there with all of my boys, minus Andrew. Our house was so close to Lookout beach and had a marvelous view of the lagoon as well as the ocean. We got up to some shenanigans as could be expected, some tea bagging and funnels with our beloved Fanie. What a champ. Adam, Dave and myself made some trips to the Deck on the beach and argued over which South African beer is the best, Castle by far. I have to say though, Namibia's Windhoek takes the ... read more

I am alive and well in the beautiful town of Plettenberg Bay. Six intrepid pioneers set off from Pinelands, Cape Town at 5am for our New Years holiday along the east coast. We were about 160 KMs outside of Cape Town going down a hill at 110 km/hr when our back right tyre burst. Ryan pretty much lost control after both left tyres proceeded to blow as well. We went into the oncoming traffic s lane and then slid one way and then the next before cascading into a metal barrier on the side of the road. I honestly thought we were going to roll, I still do not know how we didn't. As this was all happening there was a stunned silence amongst all of us until the car came to rest. If the tyre ... read more

We couldn't resist checking out the highest bungy jump in the world at Bloukrans River Bridge (Along the Garden Route in South Africa). The jump is 216 meters which is over 708 feet of free falling. Justin was happy just looking and being the camera man but it was my idea to go out of our way to get to the bridge, so I just had to jump. For the first part of the jump, you free fall for 5 seconds and on the rebound bungy you fall for another 3 seconds (the rebound bungy is higher than the Victoria Falls bungy at 111 meters). And then you bounce up and down a bit more swaying all over the place...It was absolutly nuts, the jump is huuuuugge! You really have no idea how big it is ... read more

January 1981 Not long after my trip to the Drakensberg I met Paul and my holiday dreams were replaced by dreams of a wedding. I was so happy because I was gaining a wonderful friend, husband and travel companion all in one! We wanted to go somewhere special on our honeymoon. Money was tight as usual and most of our savings went into the wedding, but we scraped together some money to spend on our holiday. We chose to camp at a holiday resort in Plettenberg Bay, a small upmarket coastal holiday destination. Paul had been there every year for his annual holiday for most of his life and had fond memories of it and he wanted to share it with me. We wanted to make it a worthwhile trip so we went for a few ... read more
