Plettenberg Bay is as our Knokke from Belgium, clearly the richer part of South Africa, a well organised/clean town with their snobs. But again such a different beautiful landscape. A place we loved for the most beautiful beach we saw till now, the little shops and sofisticated restaurants for a nice croissant with a cappucino for breakfast or grilled calamari as dinner. Also a time for change where Florence took a quite calculated risk to let her hair being cut by an enthousiastic africain lady. Unfortunately, also the place where the easy communication through whatsapp ended, as her phone got stolen out of her sweater. Moreover, Plettenberg Bay offered us the second laundry done by the hostel of our trip in stead of washing it by hand.. An amazing feeling to get the whole clothing content ... read more

Oh ja heel fijn ... read more

Cage diving with sharks - check Whale watching - check = two bucket list items ticked off. Now what else was there.... Ah yes, the road trip. Hire car - check Kate's parents with us - check Let's go..... On Kris' 34th birthday, we set off on our road trip along the Garden Route. This stretch of road goes along the south coast of South Africa and is a very popular trip. It's about 600km long, and you can do it in a couple of days, or a couple of weeks. We chose five days - which wasn't long enough in the end, but you live and learn. While my mum and I were planning this part of the holiday, we used all kinds of websites and guidebooks to try and find the best routes and ... read more

Personally I passed Plettenburg Bay, it seemed boring and I heard only the same opinion of people who had been there. Instead I got off on the next stop The Crags, the thing that bought me here was the fact I really wanted to go the Monkeyland and Birds of Eden. The backpackers that I stayed here with were absolutlely lovely. Family bussiness that makes a perect cruisy homely atmosphere.. I stayed here for 4 nights and it was great. The dinner they cook here is amazing.. a really good healthy hearty meal like only 50rand!! They also have drumming circles and fire twirling. Other than the amazing staff there are a lot hikes to go one. I think there are 4 on the property itself, and there is also another 4 hour one that is ... read more

Geo: -34.0618, 23.3817The honey badger - one of the the more recent celebrities of the animal world, after a video showcasing its bad-ass aggressiveness went viral, attaining over 54 million hits on Youtube, and also today's star at the Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness and Rehabilitation Centre. The primary focus of Tenikwa is actually the rehabilitation of African Wildcats, including caracals, cervals, and cheetahs (yup - we never heard of those first two either), but Badgie the honey badger captivated everybody on our tour today.Tenikwa not only rescues animals from the wild, and also from animal encounter attractions where they have been abused and exploited, but also from private homes, if you can believe that. Apparently it isn't uncommon for African families to keep dangerous wildcats as pets, and even a honey badger. Haven't they seen the video ... read more

Manchmal ... read more

The Garden Route & J-Bay Day 15, Wednesday, March 9th, I went for a morning visit to the Knysna Elephant Park. The park is a preserve to protect and rehabilitate elephants that used to roam free in the area. The Knysna forest used to have thousands of wild elephant but development and ivory poaching has left only three in the surrounding forest. The park is home to 12 elephants. I had planned to tour the park and have a forest ride on an elephant. John was going to drop me off and go for a surf nearby. The tour walked us through the facility before going to the fields on a tram to see the elephants. Most people just did the tour so it was their stop to see the elephants first and they told the ... read more
