Hello Family & Friends!!! I hope this finds you well!! Thank you all for following me and reading my Blog!!! My experience here has been wonderful! Sorry I haven't written in a while! My life here has been unbelievably busy! I don't even know where to start.. I've done so much since I've written last!' This past Sunday Lauren and I went to Church with a neighboring family! They are very young and very nice, I talk with them daily. We went to the beautiful big church, and the service was nice. The singing is so beautiful- everything is done so simply... drums and voice... ah I can't explain it! After church, Lauren and I went to the market and got some supplies and then returned to cook for them an American Meal!' We cooked an ... read more

Hello Everyone! I am still loving Kenya! I am becoming much more comfortable in the community and meeting so many new people everyday. Each day a new friend comes along or a new family invites me over for a meal or a visit. On Tuesday my neighbor Nangella, 24, taught me how to cook Ogali- a traditional African staple. It is made of only water and Maize flour, but there is a certain trick to cooking it correctly. I also learned how beef and kale are prepared over a fire. In return I taught them how to make an omelet! So simple, but the family was very impressed. Every once and a while I experience moments that are so surreal, that I question weather what I am experiencing is real or not. For example Tuesday evening ... read more

Jambo! Today is Sunday. The days have begun to run together and we are running out of time to accomplish all that we hoped to do. We spent this morning and yes into the afternoon, attending church service at Geoffry's church. Geoffry is our accountant and also the minister for a small church in his community. We met his wife and 2 (twin) daughters, and then had a 3 hour service. It was long by our standards, but truly we felt honored to be there and to share in this that is so important in the lives of many Kenyans. His 13 year old daughter played keyboard throughout the service -- either accompanying hymns or providing a background for worship. And there was an old man (by his admission -- 75 years old!) who played the ... read more

I've traveled somewhere every weekend since I've been here so I thought it was about time to relax a little bit and stay close to "home." =) Yesterday I came into town and met up with a teacher I work with, Madam Susan. We took a piki-piki from town to her house. (Piki-piki's are motorcyle drivers that act as taxis) I was so excited to be able to spend time with her outside of school! Her husband lives near Nairobi so she lives with her parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 adorable children. She lives farther away from town and the land around her house was just beautiful. Her aunts and uncles are also her neighbors and the whole famdamly was there waiting for me when I arrived! They were so excited and they couldn't ... read more

This past weekend was so fun! All of the volunteers on the farm traveled to Kisumu, which is right on Lake Victoria. I think there were about 10 of us. Traveling there was quite interesting. It took us 2 hours to drive, which is not bad at all but I think if it was the same distance in the US in wouldn't take much over an hour. This should tell you something about the roads. My butt was so sore from the bumps. hehe... When we got there Saturday we went to the markets which had amazing carvings and souvenirs. I thoroughly enjoyed shopping and I probably got way to much stuff. I hope I can get it all home in my suitcase. =) I even kind of enjoyed bartering for the price. I got pretty ... read more
