Our first destination for the day was the Ribe Viking Center. Along the way we saw more thatched roof houses (not uncommon), windmills (many) and an interesting country church.
The Ribe Viking Centre is a reconstruction of a Viking town. The Vikings were both agrarian as well as plunderers and pillagers. They would spend part of the year living in villages and the balance at sea visiting other areas and countries to gather what they could including slaves. The slave trade was less common because the cows could be eaten but not so for the slaves who needed to be fed.
The villages were very self-sufficient housing a variety of craftsmen. In addition there was a market area. Travelling craftsmen would get a permit for a specific area (like a shopping centre). They would be protected by the Vikings.
The next stop was Ribe village, a good example of a Danish village. Many historical buildings and a couple of large churches - one of which we visited. Today the periphery of the village consists of many very nice homes.
The final destination for today was Esbjerg which is a port town with an old downtown area which is being redone
as a shopping street. We drove up the coast a short distance and ate a cafe across from the water.
Apparently, Danish ice cream is a delicacy so we will have to try it along the way.

I wouldn't mind some of that icecream. Looks vabulous., I bet Zelma only had one scoop.
