Term 3 update and reflections one year on.

Kids have finished their first full school year in Switzerland, yippie! They have done so well with all the changes and the transition from Kenya. This term they all had shows at the theatre where they do speech and drama. Emma had her lower school show and her ballet show. There was sports day at school. Hayley and Emma did well in the throws and Charlotte did well in the high jump. Murray and I both were more inclined to running, so a bit of a surprise. Charlotte and Hayley went on their residential trips, a big achievement for Hayley to be away from home for such a long time. They both had a fabulous time, a huge credit to their teachers for organising such a fabulous week away. They are all swimming in the lake now, which is a huge achievement, conquering their fears and mine. In more ways than one, the kids and I are learning to relax a bit more. They are still working on their road safety skills, crossing the road and using scooters and bikes safely. It seems silly, but they don't have these skills we took for granted when we were kids growing up in NZ.

While the kids have done well this year, I have really struggled. Although skiing while the kids are at school with friends in the winter and paddle-boarding in the summer can seem like a dream, I do miss the stimulation of working full time. I feel I am missing a piece of my personality and it has been really hard to process that. I do believe in making the most of where you are and I feel I am, but it has been a struggle. Recently I learnt to wake-board, something I've wanted to do for a long time but have been too scared to do. So I am thankful for living here and the access we have to outdoor activities. I recently joined a netball team, I have really enjoyed coaching at a junior club and at an international school and occasionally covering PE lessons and English lessons. I do bitterly miss working full time, but I am thankful for the part time opportunities that I have had. The curse of being the traveling spouse, C’est la vie!

Murray has finished his MBa, hooray! His travel has now picked up again. He is currently in Jordan running a training and has been to New York and Norway recently for meetings.

We are looking forward to making the most of the lake this summer period and welcoming a few visitors.
