We arrived in Nasca late yesterday afternoon. This morning before breakfast we flew over the Nasca Lines. It was a real highlight for the two of us. They were really something to see. We then visited an ancient cemetery with mummies that are over 700 years old. For lunch we enjoyed a traditional Peruvian meal, which is cooked in a pit in the ground. It was delicious, especially the sweet potatoes!

Today we travelled a long road trip from Nasca to Arequipa. It was an enjoyable drive along the coast which is desert on one side and ocean on the other. We did not know that Peru had so much desert.
We arrived in Arequipa early evening.

Beautiful sunny day. Arequipa is a city in the highlands with a population of one million people. Today we visited a few sites with our group and then had the rest of the day to ourselves. During the day we visited a 500 year old convent, which was quite an eye opener. Part of it is still in use today. We also visit the museum where "Juanita the Ice Maiden" is kept. It was a very informative tour and amazing to see this Incan sacrificial mummy and her possessions. She is believed to be around 500 years old. Arequipa is a lovely city and people are very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and very cheap. Everything is served Peruvian size - HUGE. Jim and I usually split a dish and still have leftovers.
