...This is the motto of the Cambodian Army who train locally at the Siem Reap 'Airborne Shooting Range'. I am now an honourary member and I've got the t-shirt to prove it! I just couldn't leave Cambodia without living out every man's Rambo fantasies and having a go with some fully-automatic weapons !!

My weapon of choice, the AK-47. As soon as you pick it up, you know it means business. It has a good weight and feel to it, especially compared to the M-16, which genuinely feels like a plastic toy next to this thing! After only the briefest of explanations for what to do, I was let loose in a 50m long tunnel with a paper target at the end. I clicked the lever on the side off safety and into single shot. This gave me a good feel for the gun and I found the recoil offers enough to let you know that it will inflict some horrific damage, but not so much as to make the gun unmanageable. After a few single shots, I was itching to flick that lever down further to fully-automatic. As long as you hold the trigger, it will keep going until

Every discerning terrorists weapon of choice!
it empties the clip! Obviously I found this great fun, and shredded the target in a cacophony of automatic gunfire as spent cartridges flew out and the stench of gunpowder filled the tunnel !!

That was a great adrenaline rush, so I wanted a go with the pistols in the 20m range. My chosen pistol was the larger bore (obviously!) CZ45. This Czech made pistol was frankly, shite. The accuracy of the pistol seemed hideous and the bastard thing jammed up on literally every other round. I feel sorry for the Czech army, seriously you would do more damage to something by throwing one of these at it than firing at it !

By way of apology, I was let loose with the other pistol, a litle .22 These things feel like a pop-gun, but the accuracy is a lot better. I couldn't afford to spend any more money after that, although the M-60 and K-57 would undoubtedly have been great fun too!! I chatted to the (rather bored looking, as I was the only customer that day!) soldiers for a bit and they showed me the gun they keep on the roof. This beast was a hefty looking anti-aircraft gun that fires 7.6mm diameter bullets capable of cutting down a foot thick tree!! Unfortuneately, you cant have a go on this one. If you were to fire it, the bullet could easily go a couple of miles and end up basically anywhere!!

And yes, the rumours that you can shoot a cow with an RPG in Cambodia are indeed true. Around US$200 for the RPG, plus the cost of buying a cow. (Incidentally, they also said they could supply me a dog! to shoot, or a chicken!). I decided to stick with the paper targets. I can't really imagine looking down the sights of an AK-47 into a pair of puppy-dog eyes and pulling the trigger !! 😱

It was their idea to dress me up like a GI !! I would have preferred a re-enactment of Scarface... "Say hello to my leee-tle friend!"

The CZ-45 was shite, although I was honestly aiming for the head and not the target bit.
